There should be an inquiry into the umpiring today
furious d replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
I thought they were consistent all day. If you tackle or are tackled it's a free kick to the bloke in Black and white all day. Someone needs to explain to the umps that $1.05 isn't long enough odds to pay for the end of season trip. -
Should placate the panic merchants for a week at least, but as last week showed one bad loss and they'll be back.

I thought it was a poor article by Garry. He is one of the panel that hired Bailey on a pitch to cleanout and start again. He certainly wasn't complaining at the end of last year, so after one poor game with several quality players out injured he jumps off. Poor form imo. The problem with Dunn is he has deficiencies no matter what role the coaching panel try to use him in. Without injuries he'll struggle to be best 22 atm and he needs to improve or he could be looking for a new job next year. Aaron Davey is clearly not fit after an interrupted preseason and will be better with a few runs under his belt. Playing him forward last week was probably the only option as I think he would have struggled to run the game out in the midfield or defence. I think Bailey is still coaching for the future as I hoped he would. Our window isn't open yet and Bailey's eyes seem to be on the long term benifits rather than instant gratification. Grimes would've learnt plenty running with Hodge, he may have been more damaging elsewhere but it might make him a better player for the experience. Martin probably offers more than Spencer right now but the word coming out of the club is that they have high hopes for Jake. Maybe he's pumping a few games into him while the injury list allows so he can go back to Casey and build on what he's learnt. As for players getting sucked up the ground I'm not sure that's part of Bailey's plan or a symptom of our blokes lack of confidence in themselves and each other. I think an extra man was required down back at times last week to stem the bleeding which would of only made things worse. I for one am glad Bailey is persisting with trying to teach our list how to play modern football rather than reverting to some Daniher style quick fix.

Cat6, according to Schwabby, is regular B&F and AA. As Cam has won 1 of those he is Cat5 for me. Possible B&f if everything goes right, which it did that year. Brock would have won it if hadn't injured himself. Green is no way a Cat 7 and doesn't have the CV of a Cat 6 according to the criteria, therefore Cat 5. He's right on the cusp of the 30+ group so I think it's fair to judge him on historical output to an extent.

Don't know how to knock one of them up, good effort. First I think you have underestimated how long a few players have been on the list. Jamar, Rivers and Bell have been on the list more than 8 years. Dunn, Newton and Bate are in their sixth year and Garland his fourth. Mine is pretty close to yours. I moved Jamar, Petterd, Tapscott, Blease and Bail up one catergory and Bruce, Miller, Rivers, Jones and Bate down one catergory.

I can assure you Bub I'm real. You admit it yourself. Happy with the hard work he's done over the last 2 years, happy to have all the shiny new talent on the list. But 1 loss later, let me repeat that because I can hardly believe it myself, 1 loss later you want to sack the coach. Surely you're havin a lend of me, either that or you have the attention span of a gnat.

The state of the Australian media is disgraceful and not just with sport. This carp that's been going on around here this week makes me think we have the media we deserve, by goldfish, for goldfish.

Dean Bailey to promise a better showing.
furious d replied to Supreme_Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
What are you talking about you FOOL, what 100 point thrashing? 9 goals is a long way from 100 points. You should write for the Herald Sun with that amazing gift for inaccuracy. -
I still think 6-8 as i said preseason, don't see any reason to reassess yet. Those of you who thought we'd never cop another flogging were deluded from the get go.
-
It's twitter ffs, you want a detailed explination in 30 words or less. Not setting Cam much of a task. If we were to return to the Daniher plan now, which is exactly what @onyamag is advocating, I'd tear up my membership. Modern football is a possession game. Check Geelong's handball to kick ratio. We will end up with another group of senior players unable to play the modern game. It was the kick it long Daniher plan, or lack of plan if truth be told, that got us in this mess in the first place. It's part of the reason our players consistently miss targets, it wasn't a requirement to play for the Rev.

Grimes, McKenzie?

Bailey has been trying to explain this to people like yoou all preseason. The reason it's like nobody knows each o0ther out there is because thats the reality of the situation. We don't really have a team yet, just a collection of footballers. They need to get games together. But hey why listen to the coaches when you can bag them from the sidelines.

If theer is an arguement going on and you add your opinion you've added to a debate whether you stick around and debate it further or not. If you're going to be a ridiculous pedant at least get it right.
-
And if we disagree shouldn't we be allowed to say so. Suck it up princess. Say what you want but don't expect everyone to agree. You could try backing up your opinions with reasons, just saying Brad Miller sucks 100 times adds nothing to the debate.

I understand how it works but the plan, as I understood it, was we'd be frontloading contracts to get to the minimum 92.5% of the salary cap. It's irrelevant how much is front loaded in 4 years if we're paying 100% of the cap now, we'd still have little room to move when contracts are being renewed. I hope WYL and others are correct in saying that Ralph got it wrong. This list shouldn't be anwhere near 100% of the cap yet.
-
If we are paying the same as Geelong and Hawthorn, 100% of the cap, we are a failure at rebuilding already. I thought we were front ending contracts to get to 92.5% not 100%. Please someone tell me Jon Ralph has got this wrong.

Can't make it this week. I'm in the minority who prefer Sunday games, they're the only ones I can get to.

The $28 I got on Barry Hall for the coleman weeks ago on betfair is the bet of the year.

An Open letter to the Coach, Players and Demonland.

Thanks for sharing that satyricon. All this talk of Bailey's lack of a game plan drives me insane. I think it's blatantly obvious that the players aren't executing it properly. I'd be interested in how long this young player has been on our list if you'd care to share. -
Simple solution if you want 15 defenders, we're not short in that department. If you want a forward we have to persist with someone, but hey why bother teaching any of our players anything. It's all too hard. Personally I thought it took Neita 2 years to make the transition to forward, but if Martin isn't kicking 5 goals a game from his first game as a forward he's a failure. Bit harsh I reckon.
-
Agree his kicking is poor, even by our standards. For the record I don't think that's the only thing he lacks. His reading of the play and positioning in the contest isn't great, but these are area's that can be improved, as is his kicking. You can't teach Brad Green to be a few inches taller, you can't teach Spencer to be agile but Martins flaws are fixable imo. I said in another thread he should be handcuffed to Neita for several hours a day doing video reviews and getting instruction on how to play FF and spend the rest of the day practicing set shots.
-
He was equal third for contested marks on our list last year and Robbo was one of the players ahead of him. Jurrah had less but more per game. I never said he was a great contested mark, just one of our best. Unfortunately that's not too difficult atm.
-
I hope they persist with Martin. This Martin isn't a forward talk is a nonsense imo. Truth be told he's not a footballer, didn't take it up until a few years ago. Jimma wasn't a ruckman when he turned up either, he was a gaelic footballer. Hence the term "project" being applied to these guys. Martin is around 200cm's, he's very quick, he's agile, does ok below his knees and he's one of our better contested marks. As far as I'm aware he's played maybe a few hours of football in the forward line, and people are making judgements already. Hardly fair to a project player. If the coaches can turn Martin into a servicable KPF and Watts comes on as we hope, we could have a very good forward line in a few years.

Melbourne at Casey Fields - Saturday March 13
furious d replied to dee-luded's topic in Melbourne Demons
Does anyone know what time the curtain raiser starts? I look like knockin off early and might head down to Casey -
We desperatly need someone who can take a contested mark in our forward line, I'm not sure that's Dunn. The Jamar suggestion would be a good one if we didn't need him so much in the middle. If our young midfielders are to have any hope they need someone that can at least be competitive in the ruck. Spencer would get eaten alive trying to be first ruck and so would Steph Martin. Bails has given Jake and Steph a run at FF in the preseason and I think he should persist with it a bit longer. Neither is the answer long term, but if one of them can provide a contest and a goal or two a week they'll do till better options are ready.
