  1. Dear All, I don't post these days, but am highly entertained by this site, and rumours of my death are somewhat exaggerated. I am pleased to see TGR has survived all the death threats over all the years. I did dispatch the Benalla bikies some years ago to end his career, but they got distracted by some good-looking women in Clonbinane. It may be fake news, but I have read that the Russians have paid Trump to send Special Forces personnel to protect TGR from harm, and Demonland gets a dollar for every TGR post from the Russian foreign aid budget. As a teenager in 1964 watching Hassa Mann miss from point-blank range, and the hulk Gabilich wander down the ground with no Demon in pursuit, I was crying too hard to see Crompton kick the winning goal to deliver our last premiership, but I watched it many times on the replay. His opponent (as back-pocket) would have been one of the Collingwood rovers, Norman or Bone, but they are nowhere in sight on the replay. The players all had day jobs back then, and match fitness and forward-line pressure had not been invented. Lots of the guys had a smoke at three-quarter time. My ticker did not skip a beat in '64, but I nearly had a heart attack today, and it was just a home-and-away game. Can we start a petition to the players? Win big or lose big, but no more close games please or the baby boomers might die. Regards to old friends and old enemies. Steely glare for TGR. Rollo
  2. Hey, youngsters... love reading on demonland these days... try not to post, but get provoked sometimes... if this kid stays injury free for 5 years and becomes a midfield general, comparisons with past superstars may be appropriate... at the top of the list has to be Ronald Dale Barassi...
  3. Youngsters, back in the day, we dees referred to Essendon as the "scum." Part of going to the footy (for most of us) is putting down the other teams and their feral supporters. The bulldogs guys are so annoying because they are so polite. But those of us who enjoyed the demonland forum footy against the dons in recent years met up with fellow footy tragics, who just happened to belong to the other tribe. I have a mate who handed back his Essendon membership when the scandal broke, but his reaction was not common. How would we have reacted (as individual supporters) if it had been our club? I don't think I could abandon my tribe, no matter what. My two cents says we should let them have their protest without our participation. But if a fight breaks out, I will way in with both crutches. Can people who join the fight wear the club colours please? Just in case you come within the arc of the crutches.
  4. Takes me back to '87, youngsters... northey as coach... stynes, viney senior, stretch, lyon, the febey boys, the late (great) robbie flower, and all the other guys... we had an enforcer in those days, name was (political correctness requires deletion)... when the top teams decide to take out the dees' match winners, who is our enforcer in 2016? I know the rules have changed, but the game has not as far as I can see... just asking...
  5. yep, agreed, but I already joined. any starting 18 that leaves Lynden out is wrong IMO, unless he is genuinely injured or not match fit. Lynden is Melbourne for me. How much more does he have to bleed for this club? Regards to all and, by the way, rumours of my death were somewhat exaggerated. I like to read these days, but do not often feel that I have anything to say that has not already been said better. The grammar on this site has not improved. Youngsters, the correct spelling is "definitely." 1987 memories stirring in these old bones... Regards, Rollo
  6. Hey, I can now die knowing that the tradition of song can continue, mate. Great effort, if I may say so. Regards, Rollo
  7. No takers ?? Guess we are a different group in 2015...
  8. It's a grand old flag It's a high-flying flag It's the emblem for me and for you It's the emblem of the team we love And credit to you who stood true Every heart beats true For the red and the blue Credit to me and to you'se And credit to a man we know A bloke that is known as Paul Roos Extra verses welcome. Time to celebrate in song. Regards to all, Rollo
  9. OK, I don't know much... But I do know that Paul Roos will not start draft picks... Give the kids a chance to play in the 2's and let them prove over time that they are able to match it with the big, fit guys...
  10. Hey, people, many thanks... Ignoring team balance and not knowing about injuries before they happen, I think I will go with most popular from your posts, so: Dunn, Jetta, McDonald, Viney, Vince, Howe, Garlett, Hogan, N.Jones, Tyson, Jamar, Lumumba, Kent... (that's 13)... Then Frost, Grimes, Pederson, Watts, Cross... (that's 18)... That should be enough to beat the grandkids, especially if I forget to tell them that Dawes is suspended... Then Garland and Salem... (that's 20)... I like the tips on Grimes, Michie and Newton, but I also want JKH, Bail and Toumpas in my team... Decisions, decisions... I will drop Grimes and go with Michie, Newton and JKH... Comments ??
  11. Been a bit busy to follow the off-season ... Annual family Xmas competition to name the starting 22 in round one... Don't need positions, just names ... Help please (don't want my grandkids beating me again this year) ...
  12. Seriously (if we have all finished)... Now that I am no longer an organiser,.. I think the organisers on both sides need to find a venue next time that: One, has goal posts... Two, is secure, so we don't spend the first quarter wandering between ovals...
  13. Ugly, congested game on a small oval with no goal posts. Credit to ucanchoose for dealing with each problem as it arose in his first game as organiser. I am so happy he stepped up because it was way past time for me to pass the baton. Credit to dinosaur rover for his inclusive coaching style, which had our blokes playing as a team by the last quarter. The move of Leeroy and his mate to full forward in the last quarter was a match-winning move IMO. Credit to dazzledavey36 for his best on ground performance. It was a close call because we had so many other guys who could have won it. Credit to our mid-field who gradually wore the talented bomberblitz guys down. Steve the ruckman and the other guys pumped the ball into our forward line so many times in the last quarter, it would have been impossible to lose. Credit to Wise, who played another great captain's game and is now our most-capped player (along with the Stynes Factor). Credit to bomberblitz, who keep coming back at us, and have moved in a few short years from easybeats to respected opponents. Happy to hear other people's views on the game.
  14. Cheers, gsmith... ! think we have now won 13 out of 14... We lost to sainsational about 6 years ago when we turned up with 11 players... that's when we decided to get organised... bomberblitz have copied our methods, so I expect their first win against us can't be far away...
  15. TO ALL PLAYERS, COACHES AND HELPERS Remember we are playing this coming Sunday, October 5 at 11:00 am at Gosch’s paddock. Goal post issues mean that we may have to move to Olympic Park. 11.00 am means 10.00 am for those of you who have not heard about daylight saving time. Melway map reference 2G E10. Train to Richmond station, walk south down Punt Road (city side). If you come to Boulton Parade, you have gone too far. CAR. Free parking may be available at Punt Road Oval. If not, you can try the Richmond side streets south of Swan Street, but I prefer the commercial car parks in Swan Street. There is one east of the intersection with Punt Road and one west of that intersection. WEATHER. Forecast says 20 degrees, becoming sunny, humidity 42%. People, its Melbourne so bring WATER and SUNSCREEN!!! Helpers, we have never had enough additional water, so please do not slack off on your commitments. Everyone, please bring additional jumpers (if you have them) for players without. Scotty from Bomberblitz says they are going to beat us this time. Post from scooter 23 on bomberblitz on 1/10/14: “Let's beat these Melbourne dogs..... I'm running in off the square and taking someone out at the first bounce..... Invoke some fear into the rest of them.... They'll be too scared to put their heads over the ball for the rest of the game.” See you Sunday at 10.30 am (9.30 am for people clueless about daylight saving time). People arriving at or before then go into the draw to have first go at scooter23. Players and helpers who have not committed, or who are late apologies, please update your status by posting on the thread on Demonland, by sending ucanchoose a pm, or by sending him an email at ([email protected] )or by texting him on 0449 821 556. Regards, Peter Connor (aka Rollo)
  16. Great idea, Steve... I will bring plain white tops. I have about half a dozen, which I acquired back in the day when we thought we would have lots of site members showing up to support the team (and would be able to have boundary umpys). We are lucky to get a blindman and his dog these days.
  17. Should be interesting, brad, because we have leeroy tagging you now... no brad, no bombers IMO...
  18. Easier to ask those who are going to be sober to let you know... On a serious note, I have just got to stop working such long hours. Imagine finding out about Robbie's tragic death on a form footy post... I will bring the black armbands...

His details are below: I have taken on the great responsibility of organising the forum footy for demonland I bow out from my playing days with a three goal effort in the last win, that's enough for me I'm off overseas next week for my brother's wedding so there might not be much action You can email me: [email protected] or message 0449 821 556 to register your interest or stick your name on here.
  20. PLAYING ON SUNDAY FOR DEMONLAND BRAGGING RIGHTS... but we have only two forum members willing to help out the players and coaches ?? anybody want to tell me why ?? We are about to set a new record for indifference... should we stop being involved in these forum footy matches if nobody on here gives a damn ??

  22. It was 5 years ago, steve, and madness was a tall but weedy young teen back then... took lots of courage...
  23. posted tonight by scooter23 on bomberblitz tonight... "Let's beat these Melbourne dogs..... I'm running in off the square and taking someone out at the first bounce..... Invoke some fear into the rest of them.... They'll be too scared to put their heads over the ball for the rest of the game" ... I will point out this individual to you guys before the first bounce... perhaps we should unchain wise ?? (no, that would be too cruel)...
