  1. OMG straight out of the Trump playbook. The Appeal (if it even proves necessary) will be independent and Rules-based. If you don't believe in the Courts as the third arm of government in this Country, God help us all.
  2. No, changed my mind because of all the cheap shots. Not desisting until you are all dead. Kind regards, Rollo
  3. Admit the spelling mistake. Even Hitler deserved a good lawyer. It is our system and a bulwark of our society. I know I am repeating myself but the lawyers involved here will be looking at the real-time vision. Fractions of seconds mate, fractions of seconds. I don't care if Player Maynard gets banned for life. After all, he plays for the filth. I am just trying to prepare us all for disappointment.
  4. Nope, that argument won't fly. 17 legal reasons why. It presupposes knowledge, malice and design, all impossible of proof in Court. It would irritate the Tribunal so no lawyer would even consider it. It is becoming distressingly clear to me that I have become enmeshed in trying to explain the legal process to angry and exasperated Dees supporters on this thread. I am one of you. I am not Player Maynard's lawyer. I am just trying to prepare us all for disappointment. And all because I was so enraged by the "I played and you didn't" idiotic argument that I joined the conversation. Usually, I just enjoy reading on here. Now, you people have got my dander up. Bring it on !!
  5. Shakespeare: "First thing we do, we kill all the lawyers". If my legal analysis proves wrong, mate, you will receive my apology on here. The Jesuits were about the ends justifying the means, I think. This is a far cry from Aussie lawyers who spend years being trained to look at events chronologically, reasonably and rationonately.
  6. Thanks, mate. In fairness to our fellow posters, very few can appreciate the legal thought process, which you and I have to acknowledge is pretty strange and goes against human nature. Two lawyers arguing. Who would have thought? :) If my legal analysis proves wrong, I will be apologising to the 99.99%. If I am proved right, I do not ask for any of the 99.99% to acknowledge the fact. Let's all move on. There will be a Tribunal hearing (and perhaps an Appeal) and nothing we can do or say can influence the outcome. Much deeper issue than Player Maynard is how the AFL deals with contact sport verses concussion reality. I am at a loss to come up with any Rule changes that could make a difference. We have seen players concussed by tripping over their own feet. If we agree we can't stop it, the AFL could perhaps come up with a financial compensation system that assists past and future players who have suffered or who will (inevitably) suffer in the future. My eldest grandson runs out every season for his local club. Am I worried he may suffer concussion? Yes. Am I going to try to stop him playing the sport he loves? No.
  7. We are all passionate Dees supporters here so we all feel really sorry about the consequences for Gus. Because I recognise and share that passion, I take no umbrage at the cheap shots levelled at me after I announced I was leaving this thread. Anyone with a modicum of legal training will see how this is will play out. If the Tribunal makes a Rules-based decision based on the real time (not slow-motion) footage, player Maynard will be exonerated. If the Tribunal makes a political decision (entirely possible), Player Maynard will be exonerated on Appeal.
  8. I see I have no support on this thread so I shall desist. I hope that the Tribunal sees the footage from all angles. As a retired lawyer, I think that must absolve Maynard from any penalty. But, as has been pointed out by deep thinkers on this thread, the Tribunal's decision may be political - not fair to player Maynard but politically correct. Regards to all and Go Dees, Rollo

  10. Agree 4-6 weeks. The AFL will make a political statement. I am sorry but I feel sad for Maynard. What if he had been playing for us? The next poster who says I do not feel sad for Gus will get a visit from me and a severe beating with my walking stick. :)
  11. Billy, you have to agree. Back in the day, we had day jobs and were lucky to make it to training twice a week. No way we would have had the athletic ability to leap off the ground to affect a smother. It could never have happened back in our day, but I still say it was a pure football action.
  12. Hey Ricky, Watch the replay again. You and I are both Demons but I don't have blinkers on. If i had blinkers on, Maynard should not get one week. I do not have them on, so it will probably be 4 weeks. I just think it is totally unfair to the young player. Not one of ours but a player talented enough to make an AFL list. But life and footy is never fair. Injury cost Garry Lyon a chance to play finals when he could have been the difference. Jim Stynes' brain fade cost Robbie Flower the chance to play in a Grand Final etc etc.
  13. Yes, let's all agree to drop that one. Let's concentrate on the fractions of seconds and opinions that could deny a young player the opportunity to play more finals footy. What if a Melbourne player had done the same? Would we not all be defending a pure football action? It is a contact sport.
  14. Fractions of seconds, people. Fractions of seconds. It is a contact game. I am not playing the "I played and you did not" card but please consider. Angus had the ball and was about to deliver a potentially dangerous kick. He is a dangerous kick, one of our best. Maynard saw the opportunity to smother and committed his body. His body. Sometimes on the field, the mind takes a rest and the body takes over. I am ashamed of some of the things I did on the field, but this was a football action, pure and simple. Maynard's past history is simply irrelevant. Ask any lawyer.
  15. Can't believe this thread. It was an honest footy action, fractions of seconds of time to make decisions. I saw lots worse in my playing days (long ago). What would Maynard's coach and fellow players have said if he had shrunk from the contest? It is a contact sport FCS !! I am ashamed to be a demonlander when reading some of the posts on this thread.
  16. Still on Bob Dylan: How many roads must Brodie walk down Before he earns a recall ?? If Rooey is out, blind freddy can see His replacement must be a tall Josh too in the mix but we can all see Our forward line is in free fall. The answer, my friend, Is blowing in the wind The answer is blowing in the wind. Regards to all, Rollo
  17. Still on the run, Daz. Remind me of your address if sofa available. Reject all calls from the AFP. 🤪
  18. Thanks, Daz. Lots of great memories from the forum footy days. Escaping from the Home for Demented Demons has not got any easier over time. 👹 Each time I am recaptured, they up my medication. 💩
  19. Apologies to Bob Dylan: How many times can a coach look up/ Before he can see the sky ?? Yes and how many ears must one coach have/ Before he can hear people cry ?? Yes and how many times must Gawndy be tried / Before it's allowed to just die ?? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind. Many thanks to all posters and the admins for this great site. Regards to all - Rollo
  20. Have to say, Dunstan and Bedford have done really well... But hard for them to stay in with bulk priemiership players available this week.. Embarrasment of riches, but these guys need to consider their futures... Like Tomlinson, they could walk into the top 22 in at at least half a dozen other clubs... Can't see how we can keep this amazing depth medium term, much less long term...
  21. Best post on this thread, if I may say so... Steven May said much the same in an interview this week... Pates, yours was a close second... Regards to all, Rollo
  22. Hey, guys. I read everything on here but don't often post. I got to the game last night and groaned along with all the others around me. I am bothering the board because my daughter-in-law in New York is intrigued (for some reason) with Luke Dunstan. So, while others were watching us spray the ball across the goal posts, I was watching number 27 whenever he was on the ground. After decades of yelling and screaming and exasperation, I have come to the belief that the current Dees coaching staff and recruiting staff are actually delivering for us. Think Jackson, Sparrow and the improvement in Oliver for starters. Watching him last night, my Saints mates say they would never have guessed that Number 27 was the same player that the Saints happily delisted/traded. I am starting to think that, maybe, Dunstan was not recruited as a desperate inclusion when you need grunt around the ball and you have injuries. Maybe the coaches saw something else there. Now, I am intrigued. Regards to all, Rollo
  23. Great discussions here, people. Let's get back to the cold hard fact that the management of Gus Brayshaw has deferred discussions on the future. The decision to stay or go is for him and him alone. I will respect that decision. Don't ask me to boo him if he turns up for Freo or some other team. After he kicked that goal in the third quarter, my memory of one of the radio commentaries was something like: "What a player !! What a goal !! What a game !!" If there are people on here who like to pretend that their hearts were not in their mouths when the Bont put the doggies up by 19 and then Hannan got his hands on the ball... well, gee, how great are you?
