Yeah, from the outside it seemed like Mahoney was a trade period master. Was ahead of the game with the points system and trading future picks. Wonder who will handle the trade period dealings this year? I'm assuming Richo, obviously in consultation with Lamb.

Yeah, the club has done a good job at re-signing the key players, but let's be honest, contracts don't mean a lot these days. Nothing to stop a contracted player requesting a trade, it happens nearly every offseason now. But again, I'm not advocating we force anyone out to get Cerra, I'm talking about the possibility someone requests a trade and that trade ends up helping to facilitate the Cerra deal. Sometimes your hands are tied somewhat with trades, but I think we've done pretty well with making the best out of those situations as a club.
-
To clarify here, are you suggesting Freo would possibly entertain any of Chandler, Sparrow, Harmes or Brayshaw for Cerra?
-
For the record, I don't think it's likely he requests a trade, but I wouldn't be totally shocked. Also, not sure those comments really mean much tbh. I don't recall any player who requested a trade coming out during the season and saying 'Yeah nah, I'm super unhappy, I'm outta here the first chance I get. Just hopefully get my contract value up rest of the season and then I'll burn this place'....
-
There was. His manager was doing the rounds a bit.
-
Or TMac, still unhappy about last year and perhaps playing second fiddle to Brown, wants to move on....
-
Seems a lock. Still unsigned, seemingly not a chance to be selected (not in the emergencies lately). I hope he stays, but looks like he's gone.

Get where you're coming from mate, so just to clarify, I'm only talking about in the circumstance one of the WA boys wants to go home. I'd be shattered to lose any of them, but it does happen more and more these days with players. We've been through it already and managed to turn it into a massive win for us, so never know.

If you read my post again you'll notice I say there's always the possibility someone requests a trade. That's potentially how it could happen. Not a matter of forcing someone out or being 'willing' to trade out one of those players, but there's always the chance one wants to go back home. They won the 2017 flag without Lynch. Then they looked to continue to improve and added Lynch and won 2 more. That's the whole point. Teams are always looking to improve, even after they win a flag (which we haven't done yet). Not sure I agree. Weideman is leaving due to no opportunity, why would another key forward want to come to us? Also, you can do more than one trade/draft selection per year. There's players leaving, future picks, free agents, the draft.. A lot of options. Cerra would be a far better wing option than Brayshaw IMO. Always look to improve, that's one way we can this year. Our balance isn't 'perfect'. We haven't won the flag yet mate, settle. Come on mate. Seriously. Bit of hyperbole here. If you think trading in one player and potentially losing one who wants to leave will 'tear us apart' then I have some absolutely shocking news about how many list changes there are every year...
-
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not tbh... My point is, good teams are always looking to improve. Edit - Just saw you 'liked' my post, so probs not sarcasm haha! We need a font for that...

Few questions, not just to you, but I've noticed a few trains of thought appearing regularly regarding this potential trade. - Why wouldn't we look to improve? Adding a talented young player like Cerra onto the wing would improve our side IMO. - Who said anyone is being 'forced out'? Who's to say a player/s won't request a trade? - Read around the traps Cerra is best mates with Langdon and also mates with Trac. By all reports he's an upstanding young man. Why would he 'destabilise' our culture? Did it have that effect when we traded Hogan for May? Watts for Fritsch? The Tigers won a flag then added in Tom Lynch and went on to win two more. They didn't just back themselves to 'lift higher', they actively looked to improve. I'm not saying sell the farm to get Cerra, and I love our positive vibe atm, but let's not think we're an automatic dynasty before we're even in a grand final.
-
Haha I hope so! Never seen anything like him. Just think, worst case scenario, IF Jackson wanted back to WA and IF that was part of a deal for Cerra, I don't think it would be just a straight swap. There would be a sweetener coming our way, and thinking back to how Mahoney used to future-plan, particularly when you think of the Hogan situation, the conspiracy side of my brain would be a bit dubious about our draft hand this year as it stands.
-
You realise Jackson could choose to go back to WA yeah? And that trades aren't always swap a player directly for another player?
-
100% believe we might get him, but just don't think we'll be trading picks to Freo for him.
-
True, but gut feel is it wouldn't be draft picks we would trade anyway. Fair bit to play out in this story IMO.
-
Would gladly trade my cardboard rolls for his 'wet paper' tbh... ;)

Come on mate. Now you're adding in extra players of ours? We're comparing our 'tall forwards' vs their 'tall forwards'. That's clearly TMac and Brown v Hawkins and Cameron. If we're adding in extra players then lets add in Close too hey? Or maybe Dangerfield? Reckon Dangerfield might have a few of our forwards covered. As for the ruck option, not sure if there's a stat somewhere, but Hawkins is famously good at setting up goals when rucking in forward 50.
-
Pretty sure it was just about going to a better footy club and also getting out of the intense footy bubble in Perth. If you go back to his Brownlow speech it's probably not a total shock he's putting his partner first now.
-
I haven't seen the segment, but you said in your post he was referencing the tall forwards. Maybe I'm on my own here, but I certainly 'would die for' Cameron and Hawkins in our forward line. We'd be unstoppable.
-
As mentioned mate, Fritsch is a ton better than Rohan. In my post I went on to compare just the actual 'talls' given that was the context binman referred to. So in the interest of relevance: Hawkins & Cameron - 5.1 goals per game TMac & Brown - 3.2 goals per game I mean seriously, I get we're all vibing this week, but it's not even a argument to suggest Hawkins & Cameron are a better combo than McDonald and Brown. Don't get me wrong though, I think Brown and TMac could very well be part of a premiership team.
-
Don't disagree on that, particularly if we want to talk about forward pressure, but from what I can tell, the context was around the tall forwards.
-
Mate, bit of red and blue goggles going on here. Hawkins, Cameron and Rohan combined for 130 goals this season. TMac, Brown and Fritsch combined for 101. And if it's just the talls it's: Hawkins & Cameron - 98 goals TMac & Brown - 50 goals Agree Fritsch is up there (clearly far better than Rohan), but if you think TMac and Brown is a better combo than Hawkins and Cameron then I might suggest you've started on the pre drinks a little early.
