The penultimate Melbourne Premiership - 1964
I was there that day. I love the way the players bounced the ball about every five metres. And the terrible kicking styles.

Surely he canāt maintain the pace.

Farewell Brodie Grundy
Channel 7 just reported that Grundy is a āstrong chance to land at Melbourneā.

Port chasing Kozzy Pickett
Actually, SOME Americans say that. Others, like several of my American friends, are dumbfounded that those that say it think it makes sense. But overall, I could care less, but not by much.

Port chasing Kozzy Pickett
I couldnāt.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Thanks for the contribution, Luke. Iād have been happy for him to stay but Iām not heartbroken that he is going. We wonāt miss his contribution in the short term, and who knows what he will contribute elsewhere in the long term? There are no guarantees that he will be a star. Remember Weidās great final series in 2018? Out of interest, I checked Lukeās standing in our B&F for 2020 and 2021. In the former year he came 19th, one position behind Charlie Spargo. In the next year he came 12th, one position ahead of Spargo. Yes, I know⦠different ages, different positions, etc. But still, itās interesting. I canāt see Jackson improving on 12th this year.

Iām not sure what that means. How do we both win win?

Why did we fade out in games?
About 45 years ago I played in the VAFA. There was one thing the coach said over and over at every training session and every match. āItās a running game.ā He was right then and he is still right now. Collingwood showed last night what a running game looks like. And itās far more attractive than our game. Plus, they beat us and many other teams with it. If we canāt run or decide not to run, weāre playing the wrong game.

What a waste of a season!
Reading this forum, I notice that a lot of posters think we have the AFLās best list. I think thatās because weāre so familiar with our players. Hereās how I would group last Fridayās 23 on this yearās form: Great season: Petracca, Oliver, May, Petty. Good season: Viney, Langdon, Lever, Fritsch, Brayshaw, Gawn. Average season: Pickett (occasionally good, but too often missing or undisciplined), Harmes, Hibberd. Disappointing season: Brown, Melksham, Neal-Bullen, Spargo, Salem, Jackson, Rivers, Hunt, Sparrow, Smith (although often injured). Not everyone will agree with me, of course. But as I see it, 10 of our last gameās 23 had disappointing seasons. I canāt imagine that would be the case for Geelong, Collingwood or the Swans. Itās not surprising that we didnāt perform in the finals when we rely on so few. We have some top players, but hardly the AFLās best list.

Positives from 2022
I donāt think Rivers improved this year at all. Went backwards if anything.

POSTGAME: SF vs Brisbane
Remember the talk of a Demon Dynasty? More like a DEMON DIE NASTY.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Surely Freo and WCE will reassess and heāll stay at Melbourne. But maybe then we wonāt be afraid to drop him when he deserves it.

Farewell Luke Jackson
But many grabs.

POSTGAME: SF vs Brisbane
We need shorter quarters!

POSTGAME: SF vs Brisbane
If Jackson leaves we might be better off. How can you be a third year AFL player who canāt take a one grab mark? He might as well take Rivers with him. Bowey is far better.

GAMEDAY: SF vs Brisbane
Interesting use of tense, Sisso. (Iāve noticed this trend lately on Demonland. Frankly, drives me crazy.) But yes, theyāre only in it because of his last kick.

Dees Inside 50s in QF vs Swans
A lot of those red line turnovers might tell the story.

Demons won't win the flag in 2022.
Many of you are going to hate this, especially those making excuses or finding reasons why we should have won games we lost. Other teams could argue the same when we beat them. Our record against Collingwood, Sydney and Geelong this year shows we are probably the fourth best club in it. Yes, on our day we could beat all of them. But we have too few of those days. We donāt apply pressure, we fumble under opposition pressure, we miss easy goals and we canāt run out games. Letās be realistic⦠Unless we fix those problems we wonāt make it past Friday night.
