May was next to Melksham with his arm around him when singing the team song. I think that says a lot.

Interested in your perspective on this Titan. I too thought Smith was good in the first half- and he stood up when others were still playing poorly-to me he actually showed leadership. Most of his good work i felt did not come easily from pinpoint delivery-he worked hard, showed skill and made chances out of little. Was it his poor play that let Stewart into the game second half-or just the horrible delivery to no-one coming from further up the field. I have a feeling a lot of Stewarts good work came as a result of other's poor play rather than Smith being the cause of Stewart's good play. What is your perspective on that?

Re Joel Smith-I wasn't sucked in AD. I saw the excellent work he did in the first half with his marks, contesting, knocking on, handballs when the rest of the. team was struggling. He actually showed leadership with his efforts. He was quieter in the second half but one of our better players overall who contested hard all night and was effective. In my view he is a very important player for us.

A great player-no 37. I'll never forget a mark he completed whilst lying on his back in the goal square down the scoreboard end. He must have. got a hand on it in the air and the pack crashed down and he stuck out his hand whilst on his back and the ball landed in it. A really great second attempt slips catch during footy season! RIP Bernie-thanks for the great contribution and wonderful memories.

Does Kade make the grade, or will it be Chandlermonium

A very prescient post JG. :) -
The number of important, great tackles laid by Demon players that were called "Richmond-high tackle" was astounding.

All the tried and noted riders from the stations near and far Had mustered at the home game overnight, For the bushmen love good football where the mighty Demons are, And the loyal fans sense the battle with delight.

"There was movement at the station For the word had got around...."

I think that summed up the situation perfectly!!LOL

I was in the Cheer Squad 1966-68. Remember buying streamers at Coles and ripping up phone books..and a girl called Jenny in the cheer squad! Ross Dillon, Peter Smith and Rob Dowsing kicking lots of goals at Glenferrie oval and trouncing the Hawks after us being 4 or 5 goals down at 1/4 time.

Spot on RG-especially the sporadic part-at specific times in games to throw the opposition an unexpected curve ball (May/Petty).

At times Fritta may look lackadaisical but at one point last night he never gave up defending and laid 3 tackles from memory within seconds in one passage of play-he never gave up putting on the pressure. Credit where credit is due. Does anyone know exactly when this happened-will try to re watch it on replay. 3rd or 4th quarter.

Anyone else think that Ashcroft might end up with the nickname "Duck" Ashcroft?....Or perhaps "Dippa" Ashcroft..as in dip a shoulder? Such a talented player-shame to see him playing for frees like that.

I feel for Thommo too- we have lost handy players in the past due to lack of opportunities or lack of reward for effort and contribution.- I just hope he gets other chances and feels part of the team and not just a fill in.

I have a memory of Norm seeming to be able to pull a rabbit out of a hat at 3/4 time on quite a few occasions. Barry Bourke -great on a wing, full forward and back pocket-so reliable. Barrie Vagg-one day in 1966/67 when we were in the doldrums he won the game for us against Essendon at the G with 4 goals- beat both Barry Davis and Alec Epis.:)

Rival clubs fume at Collingwood’s hold on MCG seats

My version of "claiming it back" would be to have Richmond and Magpies be made to wear white shorts at any MCG game whether it was a home game or not-and Melbourne wearing black shorts at any "G" appearance! Picketing AFL HQ is appealing except that I'm too old for that sort of thing these days! :) -
Steven May Re-Signs Until the End of 2025

The most grateful I've ever been to see a hyphen! -
John Lord for me. Ye olde Number 4 could also take grabs down forward and slot a few goals. He could also bring it to ground for Barassi, Ridley and Adams-all renowned goal kickers. Hassa would also be lurking close by!

Though who knows-one day in the future we might have a Billy Carter. From memory there was a Wally Carter coaching the Roos back in the 1950's so its a possibility!
-
A shame we don't have a Billy (William) Cart on the list!

Fully agree RG

Demons3031 Childhood memories for me going to the footy with Dad in the old Bay 13 and Dad telling me all about John Beckwith (Captain) and Ron Barassi (Vice captain) - and seeing them both as heroes. I remember him once telling me to watch Beckwith kick the ball along the boundary line from the back pocket. but not be pinged for on the full - he was spot on. :)

Yes Dazzle-got done by Greta last Saturday though. I occasionally do my morning exercise on the oval-for some reason early morning its always wet that time of day-guaranteed wet socks and feet! :) I'm a couple of klm's north of Moyhu but can see the lights on during training and can hear the boys calling for the ball. :)
