Grim tidings from Northern NSW, with a case - someone from Sydney it seems, but I am hearing about some from QLD who left QLD pre lockdown - out and about for quite a period, and not using the NSW QR system and now in hospital. Apparently he had two teenagers with him who are nowhere to be found. Can't say much else, but, really, can we have a Sydney ring of steel and travel permit system already? Jeez.

Goodwin to players: "remember how we came out in the 2018 prelim against them and rolled over? Yeah, let's not do that. Come out breathing fire."

AFAIAA, Australia does not have a no fault compensation scheme for adverse vaccination outcomes, like similar OECD countries.

It's interesting the issue is so binary for you. An epidemiologist from one of the Melb institutes was on the radio about a month ago, and when asked by Fran Kelly about hesitancy, she was very clear in pointing out that type of language is extremely unhelpful, as people quite rightly are nervous, and are taking a wait and see. She said there were about 4 types of people, it was an interesting listen. I had a quick check but couldn't locate. Bottom line - the fact some people hadn't got it - yet - didn't mean they hadn't decided to ultimately not get it, they were quite legitimately nervous and were waiting to see. It's really quite rationale behaviour when you look at how the advice has changed so often, and the psychological effect of reports around clotting-related deaths. Some people over 60 may have an issue which renders them immuno-compromised, or contraindicated for AZ, or they might be disabled. We could argue all day about what the cause of the problem is, but I sense that would be pointless. Edit: I missed the part where you said you're focussing on over 60s exclusively in relation to your comments. Back to the topic at hand.

It's interesting isn't it? I'm inclined to feel the same way, which got me wondering: at what point would one not be worried about a game like this.

You seem to be assuming Pfizer is widely available - it is not. That - perhaps not made clear enough - is my point. There is no real issue - that we know about, yet (remember thalidomide?) I personally wouldn’t take my vaccine safety advice from the MSM. Fwiw, I’ve had both AZ shots btw and am under 45. As the mods say - back on topic .
-
Blaming people - particularly under 60s and especially with such a crude binary comparison - who wish to wait for the ATAGI preferred Pfizer, or who are nervous about the speed at which the vaccines gained emergency approval, especially the new mRNA ones. That’s entirely understandable.

The data on ITP from AZ is 1/100k to 1/200k it seems https://www.tga.gov.au/periodic/covid-19-vaccine-weekly-safety-report-08-07-2021 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-021-01408-4#article-info For refernence, motor vehicle death probability 1/25k. https://www.bitre.gov.au/publications/ongoing/road_deaths_australia_annual_summaries 11/100k in 1993. May be less now. https://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/[email protected]/2f762f95845417aeca25706c00834efa/96781e47a4d2d886ca2570ec0073f6a9!OpenDocument

Well, that is quite obviously the case. Many regional NSWers have been calling for it for weeks, as well as Mel Stage 4-esque lockdowns for Greater Sydney from the get go. And yet, here we are.

There are only 6 viral vector vaccines - 4 COVID19 related, 2 ebola - posted without comment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_vector_vaccine

Bypass Firewalls https://github.com/iamadamdev/bypass-paywalls-chrome/blob/master/README.md I also use AdBlock and uBlock Origin - very effective for obvious reasons. Facebook container good, too. Keeps your FB activity in a container/prevents FB tracking. (Duck Duck Go Browser on iOS also aggressively blocks tracking).

Firefox offers extensions to bypass the Australia/HS paywall It compares hospitalisation, ICU and mortality reduction rates for both Pfizer and AZ comparatively, and makes clear they are equally as effective. My wife's example is n=1, statistically irrelevant, included only as a vignette.

A link for those interested. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-08-06/adelaide-crows-taylor-walker-banned-by-afl-for-six-games/100355276 Good to have him out for us! Smart cat, that one.

It depends where you live. If I was in Sydney I'd be bringing it forward. I am hearing Armidale (NSW tablelands) to go into snap lockdown. Idiotic Sydneysiders are heading into the regions. It's only a matter of time until all NSW is in lockdown... I think I just read someone flew into Tassie in breach of rules (I think from Syd?) and absconded and has since tested positive... People are gonna people...

I had zero side effects from second shot of AZ. Wife's second Pfizer a different story - nearly put in hospital, me a week off work to care for her.
-
Sure. They're going to want to maximise attendance? Or does MCG with low crowds the primary objective. Assuming a snap lockdown for a week, with staged reopenings, it's starting to get awfully close to GF day.
-
You'd have to think there's little chance of an MCG GF, or else, with a really low crowd. Does anyone really want a GF at the G with 20k? Or would it be better to have at Optus with 60k and G/AO with similar... Tend to think it'd be better to have at the Gabba or AO. Although I've never been to WA and have some QFF points to burn, so.....

Observations. Media storm, tail wagging dog as others have said Comparatively this appears unfair compared to what league darlings get (citations in previous posts) 2 weeks seems fair Bottom line: Viney should never have put himself and his club in the position where we're all discussing this. A good lesson. Was it just me, or did Jack look a bit angry/sour during the game... I admit I wasn't paying full attention as my son and I were playing Lego as we both routinely looked up, looked at each other and said "another goal" (which it must be said is an underappreciated delight as a long-suffering fan)
