  1. Fair enough, I see him more a Sparrow/Harmes match. Run through the 2nd small forward across all teams stats and it will be a surprising number!
  2. Thanks old55. Spargo averaged 11.75 and 10 goals vs Miers for Cats in similar position 14.x and 13 goals. Who did a lot better than Spargo as 2nd small high half forward?
  3. It would be great to see stats per position across the league. I think HF & FO & HhF would be great to see the list in that position and averages. Spargo doesn’t get 20 possessions per week but what do other players average in similar role. Stengel got 50 plus as number one small forward at cats our equivalent Kossie got 40 plus, but who is next in the league. Fritsch as half forward got 50 plus who was next best in league. Spargo as 2nd small forward who plays high only got 10 but how do other team’s equivalents stack up? Most supporters have unrealistic expectations on the player and stats when compared to the role they play and the average stats.
  4. The Dogs also torched us in 2nd half of 2020 and I vaguely recall Hunter having a very good day. He certainly knows how to get the ball and use it and will be an upgrade on our 2nd winger choices - assuming Brayshaw not playing on the wing! In addition to Grundy feels like we’ve really increased our centreline on baller firepower - Rucks Gawn & Grundy Mids Oliver, Trac, Viney, Brayshaw supported by Sparrow, Harmes, (backups Jordan & Pickett) Wings Langdon & Hunter (backups Brayshaw & JJ) Just an awesome midfield / wing combination!

Good clubs don’t over react to one seasons results! Badly run clubs do - Essendon are the prime example this year! If next year goes badly, they will look at what to change but it won’t be the 2021 premiership coach!

Mine is a more balanced hatred, in they have a few unfair advantages! Plus while admiring the capabilities of Hawkins & Selwood, both let get away with murder on frees and reports!

Demon positives: - Grundy will be great, as he can really play, and will add to Max fitness wise, re rest during matches and if either slightly injured, can miss a week or two, still having AA ruckman playing. - Hunter a step above JJ on the wing, he won a B&F at Dogs, can really play. Also JJ is ideal 23 player, can cover multiple positions. - Longer pre season for all. - Kossie, Sparrow, JJ, Bowey, JVR, Rivers, Petty all that year older! - TMac & BBB seemingly fit! Tomlinson 2nd year back after knee injury might be moving better, so more realistic back up! - Having won a flag, know what’s required and that our best can do it!

I’m more an optimist and typically prefer focus on all great things Demons: 2021 AFL flag 2022 AFLW flag and Casey flag But I can’t resist the anti-Cats theme around Demonland. - Good to see Duckwood gone (could play & lead, but will be missed)! - Hawkins protected species, gets all frees and not getting rubbed out! - AFL bias toward them as ex Cats or relations have had significant roles at AFL. - Cattery huge benefits financially(govt funded), umpiring bias, get 8/9 at home, then often 6-8 across MCG/Marvel so away not as big a disadvantage. - Recruitment wise, cost of housing, provided a big salary cap advantage. By my calcs at least a 10% advantage, that allows them to keep an extra A grade (eg Cameron) & b grade player! - Bad losers, Scott 2022 prelim! Yes they deserve credit for being well run from Costa/ Cooke era onwards. But I really don’t like them!
  9. I’m ok with Gawny behind the play while rucking, but when resting, some spells up forward with Kossie standing next to him would be a matchup nightmare for oppo defenders!
  10. Hawkins & Selwood both great players, but really get looked after by the umpires, I think part of it is they have played finals for so many years, umpires recognition and respect of them very high. At Cattery, where 95% plus of crowd pro Cats, umpires influenced by crowd and Cats get dream run! Hawkins & Selwood get even better treatment!
  11. Fingers crossed he stays. Oliver is an unbelievable player, rarely plays an ordinary game, let alone bad! Flower was so skilful, moved like a cat, fantastic player in [censored] teams! Kossie is just electric, only needs a few moments in a match to have a major impact. Our current day wizard😃 His pressure and tackling also a joy to watch! Fingers crossed he stays!
  12. We seemed to have plenty of players with leg injuries in 2022 that didn’t help speed. The other thing as premier, was teams smashed into the Demons, North and Eagles were good examples, they were both hopeless the week before playing the Demons, but really lifted and absolutely hit the Demons very hard when tackling. Hopefully Cats cop the same in 2023!
  13. Hopefully a year older, wiser & gets hit with a creativity stick! I would love to see big Max rest at top of the goalsquare with Kossie at his feet , a dynamic duo to get opposing backs twitching! Note: Still appreciate our premiership coach, but just the odd change up in the forward line would be great!
  14. When ball movement is fast and good into a well structured forward line opposition defenders often panic. Slow ball movement gives time for the defence to get in position. Melbournes defence is fantastic when it has time to set up, but doesn’t look anywhere near as good when the ball comes in quickly. Hunter will move the ball a lot quicker than JJ!

2021 felt like a little bit of providing opportunities to players, 2022 felt like pick 2021 premiership team where possible, only badly injured players in Salem, TMac dropped, the odd player dropped on form e.g. Rivers who looked to carry a leg injury all year, then Bowey got bullet and not given a look in thereafter. Zero dare in selections. Hopefully 2023 JVR given a chance and Chandler 4-5 consecutive games. Grundy and Hunter make us stronger!
  16. Also no teeth, definitely Pies supporters!
  17. If game follows pattern of last time we played Lions, will not be pretty. Harris in helps from last time and the team seem better in defence. Will need things to go our way, but certainly in with a better chance than last year against the Crows who monstered our girls.
  18. Absolute gun. While Robbie will always remain number one in my heart! Oliver will be our best of all time!! As previously mentioned, kick a few more sausage rolls and he will win a Brownlow! The AFLCA is a much better indicator of the best player in the comp! If Selwood hadn’t have broken his hand with a kick, he might have won AFLCA stand-alone and the Brownlow!
  19. Yes, reading all the criticism, I also thought back to his role in the 2021GF. Thought he played great at HB and would prefer he stays in backline. Provides flexibility for stints in midfield or on wing as the team requires.
  20. Cats likely have 6-8 players older on their list.
  21. Bucky was a great player, but doesn’t do his homework prior to his ratings exercise- never gets even close on his ratings of the Demons players! Certainly gets away with living on past exploits!!
  22. Some unbelievably lopsided games, messing with %, could upset final ladder positions!

Best team won the flag: - They improved their team adding Stengle - Had a good run with injury - Beneficial draw that enabled them to rest some of their players If Demons had Roos round 13 and West Coast in a later round, perhaps Max gets rested for 5 weeks instead of 3 to get over ankle injury and perhaps a few other players take a couple of weeks off rather than push on. Griffiths has coped a lot of flak, but he managed Lions in 2019/2020 where they had great injury runs re soft tissue, so he is possibly being unfairly judged on DL, when we don’t have all the facts. Yes, I’m well aware our 4th quarters sucked! You need a bit of luck across the AFL season, re injuries both in game and over season, who gets injured, draw, when you play teams (e.g. played Eagles first 2-3 rounds a big advantage when they were decimated by Covid), umpiring, so tough to go back to back!
  24. Yes they are currently seen as guilty before having an opportunity to prove their innocence! Really screws with both Roos & Lions 2023 preparations. If either found guilty you would think that would be it re future senior coaching aspirations for 6-8 years when you look at Hird scenario!
