How many years until our next premiership?
Lou C. Fur replied to greenwaves's topic in Melbourne Demons
During the next pandemic lock-down. We are the specialists and will romp it in when that happens... -
Thank you St. Kilda for your guts and determination, your will to win, your belief in each other to take down Carlton today - even after they got in front with a couple of minutes to go - inspiring stuff. It was fantastic! Thank you for showing us how to play football and how to do what we should have done in all of the games that we lost by less than a goal this year. And thank you for pick no. 5 in the 2024 draft 🙏

On my way. Go Dees!

Darren Bennett. “Great Stuff at Windy Hill”
Lou C. Fur replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
Me too. Bloody brilliant comeback win. -
Thanks Ben. Loved having you play for the Dees. Legendary Melbourne Premiership 2021 player. Best of luck for the future.

Melbourne's pressure and tackling was relentless and Essendon rarely had an uninterrupted disposal. I reckon that was the difference. Was interested to watch the strategy to nullify Essendon's rucks by rotating Petty, JVR and DT. JVR ended up being the most effective but I saw some great efforts by the other two. Niggles, pushes, fends. Fascinating and satisfying to see these players step up in Max's absence. I was so proud to be there and watch us win a "must win game" and force our way back into the top 8. Looking forward to the strategy adopted to nullify the rucks against Fremantle in the west next week...

Good tackling, great 2nd quarter, great pressure. But yet again, when it mattered, when the game was to be won, set shots were missed, silly free kicks were given away and we couldn't kick straight to win the game. We're close but no cigar...

I stayed. I sang. I enjoyed the 3 point win against Norf. It was tremendously relieving. I sang the song loud. I hoisted my scarf above my head when doing so. As loud as I could, I yelled "whadda we sing" and also "woo hoo" with gusto when "The Grand Old Flag" was blasted over the loudspeakers. Norf. A bogey team of ours for so many years. Not any more. But they almost beat us tonight! Didn't they beat us 17 times in a row? Now we've beaten them 6 or 7 times in a row? Come on Dees! Each week is a new opportunity. We're gonna give the Lions Hell! Go Dees!
-
I reckon we'll give em HELL

We have nothing to fear but fear itself

No it isn't! It's good. I like it! An ugly win that got us back in the 8 is something I'm celebrating right now. Look out Bris Vegas. Here we come! GO DEES!
-
His evasion of 3 opponents and then breaking free to effect THAT running goal was sublime.
-
...and the umps totally robbed Norf again - for the 2nd week in a row!

Unforgettable day. I was there that day at giving it hard to the Hawks supporters. They gave it back too. But THAT win on THAT day by the our beloved Dees against the Hawks was ecstatically cathartic. Our supporters got to watch loser Hawks supporters leave early. IT was awesome. I began to believe we were on the right track after that game...

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
Lou C. Fur replied to pitmaster's topic in Melbourne Demons
Indeed. Except it used to protect the player who was skilful enough to manoeuvre to the front position. A push in the back to a player in the front position, especially in a marking contest used to be illegal and would result in a free kick to the player receiving that push in the back. In the last 5-10 years (approx), the rules have changed and players are actually allowed to place their hands in the back of players in front of them to push out of the way to gain an advantage in a marking contest. This has been exploited by players knowing that within the rules, contact can now be made in the back, and knees are now being allowed into players backs in marking contests. You can't blame players seeking to gain advantage if it is within the rules. The placing of knees and shins has always been allowed in the back and on the shoulder for "species" but more and more - under this lax push in the back rule - it is being allowed for gutless driving of the knees into the backs of opponents to unfairly out-manoeuvre those players who have skilfully obtained front position. Examples of this with tragic injuries have most recently surfaced with Christian Petracca suffering 4 punctured lungs, a lacerated spleen and a hole in his lung. This also occurred with a knee to Stephen May to his ribs earlier this year - although not in a marking contest. This also occurred in 2017 to Melbourne player Tim Smith who suffered a punctured lung from a knee in his back from Tom Lynch in the ANZAC eve clash of that year. We saw the rules for Holding the ball change very quickly when certain coaches complained about Charlie Curnow being allowed to hold the ball and be swing around before being allowed to kick the ball without penalty. I'm hoping that coaches/media/supporters do the same and get outraged about the AFL allowing players to come from behind and drive knees into their opponents backs causing terrible injuries. A speccie, when a player can land on another players shoulders to take a high mark should be preserved. But, a push in the back is a push in the back. A knee in the back is an extreme version of this. Both should return to be illegal and umpires should award an immediate free kick. This will avoid injuries to players who play fairly and stamp out grubs who drive their knees into players backs to gain an unfair advantage in marking contests. -
Add a couple of fiendish Dick Dastardly tricks and we'll be guffawing like Mutley!

Better not play like the Boulder Brothers...

Vale John Beckwith. 5 time premiership player for the Dees. What a legend! Sad day for the MFC. My condolences to his family.

Oh yeah? MFC member. Logged in two weeks ago. Could only get a standing room ticket. Bringing hemorrhoid cream.

Hopefully soon Wiz. I can't understand why he doesn't. When we're struggling, why not. Petty and Mac can play both forward and back. Swap em when we're struggling. TMac won us the game against WC in 2017 (the first in ages) with his famous - Tom McDonald YOU GENIUS goal: We have the players who can play multiple positions - perhaps a little more lateral thinking and switching things up when things aren't going to plan will provide a change of fortune in games that aren't going to plan. Go Dees.

Quite the measured response...

Too true. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
