Many thanks for this info L.H. This and your kindred spirit is much appreciated. I did see the email with the link to purchase guest passes online but by Sunday it was apparently too late use this facility. As luck would have it, I managed to obtain a guest pass for my daughter simply by lobbing up to the friendly MFC staff at gate 3 on Sunday at about 11:30 am and they were happy to sell me a child's members guest pass for $10. Good value I reckon! After collecting the guest pass, we shared some lamb with garlic and chips from one of the outdoor food vans, then went to the kids activities between gates 2 & 3, and my daughter enjoyed traversing the inflatable obstacle, climbing the rock wall in harness, face painting, receiving a couple of give-aways, buying a MFC cap and Max Gawn badge, all before entering the MCG. During the game she told me she was quite anxious as she REALLY wanted Melbourne to win. We were both so glad when the result was as decisive as it was in Melbourne's favour. We went down to the fence at the end of the game and Big Benny Brown came right over to us with a couple of footys in hand. Whilst we didn't get one of those, it was just great to be so close the fine young man and his big smile after a great win over the Doggies. After the train ride home and returning home, my daughter told me quietly that she really enjoyed the day at the footy. Me too I said, me too!

Can you buy MFC member guest passes today at the MFC Office (between gate 3 and 4)?

I read Gus's letter and was moved by his eloquent expression of how grateful he is. It moved me. I wish he could keep playing but he has accepted the news that it is too risky to keep playing. He is a heart and soul player of the Melbourne Football Club. A generational talent - not just with his footy skills but his love for the club, and his intellect for the game and life in general. It just hurts to know he won't play again. I feel for you Gus, I wish you all the best for the future mate. Thanks for the best memories. Your diving mark and goal in the 21 GF in Perth to put us back in front is something that I will NEVER forget. Good on you legend.

You must be tripersonal.

Like: Clayton "The Kid" Oliver's left foot snap and goal in the 5th septher (not sure how to divide into sevenths...) Kayo worked Watching Melbourne play footy again 5 unanswered goals in the the 3rd septher Jake Bowey (No. 17) pinpoint accurate kicking Seeing lots of folks at Casey It's only a practice game Dislike Having less score at the end of the 4th septher than Rich%&$# At least one of Petracca's set shots at goal Having to write emails instead of going to the footy liquorice

Very sad news. Will always be remembered as a legend of the Melbourne Football Club and an innovator of VFL/AFL who could move and change with the times. Rest in Peace.
-
I was there and reckon those numbers are about right. Sad that they had so many more supporters there that us, but the quality of Melbourne's supporters was outstanding. Melbourne's 36K was louder than Carlton's 60K for most of the night. Carlton were pretty quiet for most of the night. The only time I can recall Carlton were louder than Melbourne was when they kicked the goal to get in front right at the end of the last quarter. I thought the Melbourne supporters at the ground last night were fantastic!

Agreed. Cathartic reading on the comedy of so many errors explaining how we self destructed. Again. haven't felt this way since Prelim 1987...

It's not just them. There are many others who slip over. Been happening for a long time and kills good passages of play and goals! Better boot studs are just one of the priorities that MUST be demanded when this year is reviewed.
-
I saw that too and took a video. I saw at least two occasions when Melbourne players slipped over at crucial times near the boundary. Mopping the ground certainly didn't help! Why was this done? Regardless, MFC needs better boot studs... sure MCG mop.mp4

Maynard must get at least four weeks
Lou C. Fur replied to leave it to deever's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks fr_ap. Unfortunately I couldn't open the link. But I found and could open this one with what looks like to be the same podcast: https://omny.fm/shows/the-deebrief/analysing-maynards-bump-that-concussed-gus -
Rest in peace Charlie. The MFC was great to give him that time amongst the players and coaches. Some wonderful memories for his parents. My sincere condolences to Charlie's family.

The best captain in the AFL. The best ruckman in the AFL. Inspirational clubman. Has endured incredible struggles, injuries, and setbacks and worked his guts out to get to the pinnacle and win a flag. Sets lofty goals and works hard to achieve them. Maintains an amazing work-rate to sustain incredible high standards and results to give the club every chance of continued flags. SO glad he is a Demon. I wish for you Max a brilliant 200th game. May your team-mates get around you, may the supporters turn up in droves, May you kick 6 goals, have a best on ground performance, with Nibbler in his 150th kicking 4, and we thrash the Hawks by 10 goals. Go Max. Go Dees

Congratulations Brett Rosebury - games record holder
Lou C. Fur replied to La Dee-vina Comedia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Incredible achievement. Umpiring 503 AFL games to break the record in a thankless job constantly being abused by crowds is amazing. Well done Brett Rosebury - hats off to you! -
Go to Rich v Melbourne on Ticketek, select "Club Members and Public Reserve" and enter your barcode where indicated". Worked for me on Sunday I got a reserved ticket on level 1 on the wing. It may be too late now but worth a try. Heres the link: https://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/Show.aspx?sh=RICHM2023

What about umpire Michael Pell who was sacked by the AFL for cheating in the betting scandal on the 2022 Brownlow? Do I win the $10k on a technicality here? https://www.sportingnews.com/au/afl/news/afl-umpire-michael-pell-sacked-following-brownlow-medal-betting-scandal/uwggtdkcal7qn5apjlmylrxz

If the AFL is serious about protecting the head, this is 1 week for sure.
-
Right elbow to the chin. Not during play. 1 week off at least surely.

I concur. Especially in the last few minutes of the 4th qtr. After Viney's gutsy and gobsmackingly inspirational effort and goal when he literally ripped the ball from Oscar McInernay's hands, spun, got clear and kicked truly on his right foot, the deafening chanting of "Melbourne (clap clap clap)" either side of me was a stereophonic head-spin that saw bolts unriveting from the support poles on level 2 the Olympic Stand The volume further surpassed WH&S limits when Melksham marked and goaled to put us in front. And then, to top things off, when we'd won, the Demon faithful singing the song so loud that it drowned out the version coming from loudspeakers will be something I NEVER forget. What a win. What a way to introduce a mate to the footy and entice him to become a MFC supporter. What a memory to treasure. Onwards and upwards, go the mighty Dees!

I regretted leaving early last year and missed Kozzie kicking the sealer against Carlton. I resolved to never leave early after that. So glad I stayed to the end and witnessed the Dees win last night. What a finish! Took a mate and lent him a scarf to entice him to become a Dees supporter. The final 5 minutes Dees crowd were SO loud. Fantastic team effort - one of the best comeback wins ever this one. Canonic chanting of "Melbourne (clap clap clap)" either side of us and then when we'd won and the song sung so loud it literally drowned out the version from the loudspeakers. I think I just may have convinced my mate to join, he took the scarf home...
