Or Davd Neitz. PLEASE get somebody into Melbourne that will teach the fundamental skill of SET SHOT GOAL KICKING. Everybody knows Melbourne suck at this. The current coaches know it. They've tried. The players know it. They've tried. All have failed. We have dominated so many games since winning the flag in 21. So many games we've smashed the opposition with inside 50 counts and shots at goal. Only to lose through inaccurate kicking. A major component of this is set shot goal kicking. Melbourne's has been atrocious over the last 4 years. This year I hear it is the worst in the AFL. Get Lloyd. Get Neitz. Or Get F@#*ed....

I'm hoping that we are so F*c$ed off about the loss that we should have won last week that the anger is channelled with laser accuracy and we give absolutely no mercy. I expect it will be an absolute bloodbath.

In this video Matthew Lloyd (who kicked 926 goals in his career as an AFL footballer) is directly asked whether he would coach set-shot goal-kicking at Melbourne. He actually seems quite frustrated with Melbourne's inability to kick accurately from set shots in front of goal. He responds to the questions of whether he would coach Melbourne at set-shot goal kicking accuracy, by recalling the year he coached Joe Daniher when he was at the Bombers, to help him with set-shot accuracy, he remembers that players and staff would ignore him when he walked into the club due to things that he had said. Sounds like he was badly burnt by his old club whilst trying to help them...He doesn't go any further with his response. Watch the video... Lloyd's response implies that if Melbourne were to welcome him into the club and treat him with dignity, not ignore him like players and staff from his old club Essendon did when he was coaching Joe Daniher, and instead embrace him for his knowledge and guidance on set-shot gol kicking (which he is an expert!), the Dees might just have a coach on their team that WILL help with goal kicking accuracy. Goody's links with the Bombers might just get this over the line. I think that Matthew Lloyd (926 AFL goals) would be an excellent coach for set-shot goal kicking at Melbourne and strongly advocate for this to happen. ...or get David Neitz back as goal kicking coach for the Dees. Neitz kicked 631 AFL goals - the most by a Melbourne player - EVER - I'd take him as goal kicking coach for Melbourne in a heart beat. Is Neita available? Agreed it's a regression - a big one! Dominating the inside 50s is important but it isn't enough. A better strategy probably is to aim for and dominate the inside 30 count - I would think goal scoring accuracy would be much better from this zone! It's not just Melbourne who often dominate inside 50 counts and find a way to lose. Brisbane had the last 11 inside 50 entries in their game last night and lost to Adelaide by 5 points. They should have won! Like you TU and DP, I am hopeful we can return to dominating the inside 50 entries with better, deeper entries coming from smarter delivery deep into the inside 30 zone. A repeat of how we lost to the Saints and we'll get smashed again. A return to how we played and won against Brisbane and Sydney (last years Grand finalists!) with smart footy strategising delivery deep inside 30 will give us an even chance of beating the filth. Go Dees!

Well said. I've had a gut full of this too. We do so much so well and then go and [censored] up in front of goal. Bad kicking is bad football. Fix that and you fix Melbourne. 7 goals 21 behinds and lose to St Kilda who kicked 14 goals 7 behinds. This reminds of the loss in Round 16, 2023 to GWS when Melbourne kicked 5.15 to GWS 7.5 and lost by 2 points. Atrocious kicking in front of goal has cost us arguably 2 premierships...Wake up Melbourne and learn how to kick straight!

Fair point - that will be a big test. But we have the Saints to battle before the Pies. I'm keen to see how our new slick game style holds up against a team whose coach is an expert in defensive tactics and has strategies to slow the game down. The game against the Saints is going to be fascinating.

He’s consistently accurate when kicking for goal. But seriously needs to improve his leading and marking skills. He’s only 22 (I think). Was very disappointing today. I thought coming back after being dropped would inspire him today. It wasn’t to be. Back to the reserves and learn how to lead and mark please!

Great win. So glad I was there. I was hoping for a four quarter effort and the Dees gave it. 25K turned up today. Dees supporters were loud! I lost my voice - again! As others have said in this thread - that was fun to watch. The style is less hesitant and much more play-on. It caught Freo by surprise so often - and me! I noticed also that at one stage late in the game, the Forward 50 tackle count was us 23, Freo 3. Forward 50 entries were fast and many. Good signs. Let's bring this style and intensity on ANZAC eve against the Tigers. GO DEES!
