  1. -________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I agree that our kick-ins were marginally better in the 2nd half of the season, Clint. But they still are nowhere near as effective as Collingwood's(and most other team's). In fact StKilda's kickins(and there were plenty of them), reminded me of ours. Always pressure on the defenders, rather than a release into attack. I really respect your comments on footy tactics, Clint, so I'm interested that you're so happy with what I perceive as a glaring weakness. I'm certain the deficiency is not due to inferior skills in our list.
  2. -----------------/------------------- The side with less to defend always loses.
  3. Collingwood did it brilliantly today. St. Kilda were consistently under pressure after kicking in from points. Very significant in the result.
  4. [quote name='Sturmmann' The game was over in the first 10 minutes, why risk injury when the game was in the bag already? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I don't think most AFL players think that way. Nice of you to give your support to "Dids".
  5. What a day! We were unlucky not to be at the MCG where we'd have smashed 'em! Lyon kicked the winning goal after a handpass from my hero, "Dirty Dave" Williams. But WCE were unlucky not to get a free to Glendinning in range near the end, and should have kicked the winning goal soon after (I remember not looking , being so sure they wouldn't miss....what was his name again?!!) If only they'd played Dirty Dave instead of Eishold against Hawthorn the year before!!!!! We beat the reigning premiers, Carlton, three times in '87. (so that included a cut-throat final.) We'd have beaten Carlton in the 87 GF.

  7. Did anyone else watch the Bushrangers v. the CSK last night? I recorded it and watched it not knowing the result this morning. Exciting!!! The Bushies got off to a great start chasing 162, but their rate slowed as the pressure rose. They needed one to win off the last ball to McGain, but failed to score, resulting in a tie! We batted first in the "Super Over", and Hussey belted 'em out of the ground for 27!! They only got 13. Rivetting stuff!
  8. Did any other Demonlanders notice one of Collingwood's heroes drop his head and miss an easy mark, expecting a bump(which never came) last night.? Luckily for him , he got away with it, since Geelong made a(trivial)interchange error, and Thomas got a "gimmee" goal, which distracted attention from his team-mate's gutless effort.
  9. [quote name='Demondeb' date='18 September "Geelong let the football world down last night.. " ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Like Essendon(and the Umpires) let the football world down in the '90 GF. I agree with "Why You Little". St Kilda MUSTN'T let the Mudpies win a fifteenth flag. If the Saints get behind perhaps they should cheat like Coll. did in '58, and "go the knuckle".

  11. I was there but I can't remember it ! But Brown's fluke goal was an off break, not a doosra! Bloody Luc ky and inspiring for the Mudpies.
  12. PHEW!!!!! I was worried about Pia Miller at first when I saw this post!!!
  13. [quote name='High Tower' date='05 September 2010 - "To go out in two ??" ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________---- Yep....if they lose to Geelong, they're out in two. (one win, one loss)
  14. They really let it go in the first quarter, didn't they!!! FOURTEEN FREES!!!! With the same interpretations in the last quarter there would have been 56!!!!
  15. Everyone keeps harping on about how tough big bustling Barry Hall is, and watching the game last night, I was hoping he'd bump a few Collingwoog blokes. But all he did was get reported for swearing!!! Then I tried to think about the tough stuff he's done, and all I could think of was a backhander to Staker, and crashing into a few full-backs' backs. Has he ever done a good shirtfront? Has he ever taken a mark running back into the pack like J. Brown? Just because he's ugly, and tattooed, and likes boxing, everyone says he's tough. He disappointed me against Collingwood. I was hoping he'd shake Pendlebury or Thomas's bones.
  16. I don't know why people are not surprised at suggestions of delisting Kyle Cheney. I reckon he's done everything asked of him when in the firsts, and consistently does well for Casey(including yesterday). He gets the ball, is a good kick, and is a good mark for his size. I'd keep him for sure.
  17. I must admit, I have an empty feeling now it's all over for us. For some reason, I was more keyed up for the last 2 games than any others(except Collingwood). I'm depressed! The only thing left that is important is that Collingwood don't win. Everything's worked in their favour so far, until now! They'll have to beat Geelong to make the GF! What a disappointment to go out in two!!!!!
  18. Normally, my opinion on umpiring is irrelevant, since I can't be dispassionate about Melbourne. (I reckon we were robbed against Footscray,Hawthorn and North, and yesterday with the Bullants). Watching Sydney/Carlton this afternoon(and holding a candle to neither of them), I was pretty disappointed ,(though not surprised)with the standard. They were far too technical in the first half. Watching slo-mo replays, one could usually justify their decisions. But most of the time , a "play-on" call would have been the more sensible option. When the game got tense( the last quarter and a half), they completely changed their interpretations......there were very few frees(throws, in-the-backs and head-high tackles went unpunished). Nothing in the rules stipulates that the judgments should be affected by the state of the game. Of course umpires let the game flow as much as possible when the game gets close. That's how they should umpire from the start! But don't try to be smart by calling dicey frees at the start of the match. The worst was McBurney, who should know better, with all the experience(and big money!) he's got. By the way, was he the ump who refused to believe Scwarta when the ball was flat(penalised him for time-wasting), then changed his opinion later on? I think so.
  19. [quote name='1858' . One of the main differences I noticed yesterday was the amount of mistackles on moving players we made - way too many. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I agree, 1858. Time and time again, North players would break free from crowded situations with a mere twist of their body, run clear, and have plenty of time to choose a downfield option. In the first quarter, we tackled well and harassed, but as our players tired, tackles didn't stick, costing goals.
  20. I do, Steve, but I'm ridiculed for repeatedly bringing up the subject! It's enlightening when the TV cameras show the "straight down the ground" view when we're kicking in . No-one's moving.! Poor old Garland's looking upfield desperately hoping someone will run, but his time expires, and he has to "roost" in the general direction of Jamar, who's surrounded by opposition. I think that's the time to "buy" more time by the short kick to the pocket, expecting the pass back to the square. The clock starts ticking again, and often opportunities open up downfield.
  21. Couldn't agree more about Jordie's efforts, Deezman and Jerry. However, looking at it from a Club point of view, it probably saves the Club a fortune when contracts are up for negotiation, when players miss out on official awards(rising star noms., etc). Jack W. would be in a much better bargaining position with a nomination under his belt, as would Jordie.
  22. Our point kick-ins, and defence of Hawthorn's kick-ins, were lamentable again on Sunday. It was noticeable how quick they were to get the ball back in play....and how hesitant we were. So often we had to resort to the long kick to Jamar amongst several opponents. (It's not worth considering doing that with PJ). (But Garland is a magnificent long kick when he roosts it) It seems our club tacticians have the same interest in this topic as the poster "E 25", since there appears to be no attempt to experiment with change in this crucial tactic.
  23. I reckon it's his little moustache that's made the difference!!!
  24. Did any other Demonlanders notice the resemblance between Luke Tapscott and John Tilbrook? Even the kicking styles have a similarity. Luke doesn't have the enormous responsibility that Diamond Jim did to live up to unrealistic expectations. He's beginning to show signs of good things to come! Meanwhile , I can't help being reminded of Donny Williams when I see Harry O'Brien breaking away from half-back. I almost expect to see him do the running drop kick! He's so inspiring the way he runs.(......Tingayish!)The crowd buzzes in excitement as he breaks the lines.
