  1. http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/sport/a...5016169,00.html Sheehan and Barret's take on it.
  2. 6. Bate - easily our best 5. Jones - never stopped 4. Sylvia - looks good off half-back 3. McNamara - good first up 2. McDonald - tried hard 1. Martin - if only he could kick
  3. 6. Davey 5. Morton 4.Rivers 3. Warnock 2. Petterd 1. Moloney
  4. I thought she was fine. No worse than when Robert Walls and Tim Lane do a Carlton game. I'd be happy to see her given another go.
  5. Aaron Davey has been very prominent lately. I believe he would fit the bill.
  6. This is a great topic! Before Flower retired, Gerard Healy played a couple of great seasons as ruck-rover (1984 beat Peter Moore for the B&F in the year he won the Brownlow, and then had another great year in 1985 when he probably should have won the B& F but then went to the Swans). Prior to that he had been a forward. Brian Wilson was a top player, although injury prone and individualistic. Sharp around goals, he was quality. Our Northey coached teams had really workmanlike midfields - guys like Bret Bailey, Dean Chiron,Greg Healy, Graeme Yeats on a wing, Stretch (who was a classy player but much maligned for jumping out of Dipper's way in the 88 GF). Alan Johnson originally played midfield (wing/on-ball) and won a B&F in that position before later in his career moving to defence and winning another B&F. After Flower, I thought Andrew Obst was a whole hearted player and I really rated Leoncelli and Powell but for me, the best three on ballers since Flower have been Tingay, Viney and Glenn Lovett. Tingay had a brilliant 1994 - the reason why he was so heavily courted by Fremantle. His 98 season was also exceptional. No coincidence we made prelim finals in both of those years. Viney was a great workhorse and became a very good AFL player and Glenn Lovett had a really sharp footy brain and was cruelled by injury.
  7. Yep, all of that and don't underestimate the power of self-interest. I believe it was Peter Costello who said "In a two-horse race always back self -interest. At least you know it's trying!" A lot of our blokes are playing for their careers - they quite rightly couldn't give a bugger about what might best get better players to the club! Intervention from the FD is the only thing which will ensure we keep to the 4 wins!
  8. Freo might get 1 more, we'll get 2, WC at least 1 (maybe 2). I think we'll finish 14th, miss the PP and get pick 3. Freo and Tigers to finish below us.
  9. I'm certain they'll take Scully, and even if they don't, I'm not sure we'll be next in line anyway!
  10. As I said last night ... I reckon we're in strife!
  11. That's right. If Freo don't win another game (or win one more even) and WC win one (eg beat Freo), and we win tomorrow and pick up 2 more as well from North, Rich and Freo, then there are no priority picks and we will finish either 15th or 14th most likely. Scully heads to Freo - if they want him!!
  12. Lose tomorrow and I think we'll be OK. I'm sure we'll beat Freo and should get one of Richmond or North, making 4. The Dockers have a shocking run over the next 7 weeks - quite possibly won't win another game. That would most likely give us 1 and 3 or 1 and 4 (depending on Richmond). If we get up tomorrow I reckon we're in strife!!
  13. They're now a win and .17 percent ahead of us. Beat Port tomorrow by just a bit and we're off the bottom!!
  14. Hmm! Saw it earlier on One Week at a Time on OneHD. They played the whole incident and it was very ordinary. Extremely lucky to only get 3 weeks. Robert Walls made the comment that he would have been happier with 6!! It looked awful and was really dumb!
  15. As above. Was impressed with Jetta tonight. Thought he showed plenty.
  16. I think you mean complement!
  17. I'll have a crack - hard to find 6 but here goes: 6. Green - tried hard and used it better than most 5. McLean - thought he had a good duel with Watson 4. Moloney - butchered it a bit but kept at it. 3. Davey - not a great night for him but got 30 touches and played it out. 2. Bruce - just wish he'd use it better 1. Martin - liked his work forward
  18. Joeboy is right. Grimes was beaten by Didak today but his skill level and composure stand out like a beacon. He will be a very good player.
  19. 6.Sylvia 5.Jones 4.Bruce 3.Davey 2.Jamar 1.Cheney
  20. 6.Grimes 5. Jamar 4. Rivers 3.Whelan 2.Frawley 1. Maric
  21. 6.Sylvia - super game 5. Johnson - a good lone hand 4. Rivers - great second half 3. McLean - despite the turnovers 2. Martin - liked his effort forward 1. Green - good first up effort
  22. He basically hates us cause every time he played against us Danny Hughes would kill him! He hardly kicked a goal against Hughes and pretty much every contest reulted in "Wrestlemania" with Hughes winning hands down!!
  23. I was at training Monday morning when Liam was introduced to the playing group. The club already has a mentor/contact in place - an aboriginal guy in his mid-40's who was speaking with Connolly and Bailey. He was wearing a brown and gold tracksuit top - couldn't make out the logo as I was more interested in the goings on on the track. Liam appeared to be getting on very well with Aussie and Matty Whelan. Davey came out a little later and also seemed very friendly toward him. Of the senior guys, all of Green, Bruce and JMac spent some time with him. I think he'll be fine. What was more noticeable was Bennell and Jetta right away from the other indigenous boys. Obviously those 2 are very close.
  24. Picked up a copy of this the other day. It is written by Age journo Emma Quayle, who has an outstanding knowledge of the junior prospects. It follows Cyril Rioli, Trent Cotchin, Brad Ebert, Ben McEvoy and Pat Vezspremi thrpoughout the 2007 season as well as the Hawthorn recruiting team. Some great insights into the whole list development stuff. Also Cale Morton and Jack Grimes are both mentioned glowingly and frequently. Grimesy seems certain to be Captain one day based on the stuff covered in the book.
