I'm not saying Brown didn't do the wrong thing, but to flat out blame him for the loss is ridiculous. Newton could have been the hero but he dropped the easiest chest mark any player could want, but do we blame him? Nope, it's all about the excellent debut (and he did play alright, no doubt about it) Yep, Neitz and Robbo didn't decide "not to kick a goal", but isn't that what they are paid specifically to do? Robbo may have been on one leg but it was ok for him to take a hanger in the last quarter. A tonne of things cost us in the end tonight, and to heap all the blame on a guy like Dogga who gives 100% for us every game is highly unfair.
-
Forget Brown, our horrible start cost us more than anything else. Why not blame Robbo and Neitz for missing a heap of set shots if we are playing the blame game?

How many bloody injuries are we going to get this year? It's ridiculous. At the risk of going too far, I wouldn't mind seeing Miller come back into the side and play at CHB for the remainder of the year. If it fails, he is gone, if it works then why not persist. He, Rivers and Carroll wouldn't be bad down there. In all honesty, we need SOMEONE down there. He sure as hell isn't a forward! Neitz, Bell, Green and possibly Robbo and Wheatley could all miss next week. Could be up to 7 players in the mix, although I think Dunn, Whelan, C Johnson and Miller deserve first crack next week.

Stuff Essendon, we all hate 'em, but we need to just look at us tonight. The 4 points don't matter - I think that, after the first quarter, we worked as hard as we have all year to walk off the ground with our heads held high. We might not be thinking like that now, but we sent Daniher off with pride and I think we can happy with that (in time!) I almost cried myself when I saw Neitz on the verge of tears during his interview with the Ox after the game. The new coach will be filling some HUGE shoes, no doubt about it!

1. Jeff Farmer, Darren Jolly and Steven Armstrong (last two more so because they won a premiership!!) 2. Brad Miller, Adem Yze and Mark Jamar 3. Brock McLean, Colin Sylvia and Jared Rivers

NEALE DANIHER - TO FINISH AT END OF THE YEAR
Wiseblood replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dappa - you make some good points, but do you really think guys like Davey and Robbo will be under threat? There are many questions to be asked and a new coach will bring new ideas, but I'm pretty sure that those guys are safe, Davey especially. I still think Neitz will go on, although guys like Yze, Green, Bruce etc should all be looking over their shoulders. -
I'm actually excited to see the direction that we take from here. While I'm sad to see Daniher go, I think this could eventually turn out to be a real positive for our club. A new coach with new ideas and new philosophies for our younger guys to build on is something that I think we can all get excited about. Plus, now the Daniher has resigned, he might play the kids as there is no need for him to save his job anymore.

It's the Melbourne way... -
God forbid we get Connolley. Would rather us keep Daniher than get him.

NEALE DANIHER - TO FINISH AT END OF THE YEAR
Wiseblood replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
I feel for the bloke. He gave everything he could to the club and in the end it just didn't work out. I'll never forget how he put himself on the line to pump up our club in 2003, when he took the bull by the horns and turned our club around. He bled Melbourne and I think all supporters respected him for that. It's a shame that he just couldn't turn it in to on field success, although he is not entirely to blame. Thankyou and good luck Neale in whatever you do in the future. -
I know this is a touch off topic in terms of his injury, but do we all remember years ago when Yze almost left to go to Carlton? I can't be sure if it was going to be a trade or walking to the pre-season draft, but I remember thinking at the time that we couldn't possibly lose him. Now, I actually believe that if we had of traded him for a pick or a good young player, we may have been better off. I feel for Yze, he has been a fantastic player but the game is passing him by. I see no reason in giving him another season for the sake of it when we could use this spot for good, young player who may be playing and developing under a new coach.
-
I'm not sold on Buckley. I think he has the potential to coach, but I'd feel better with Voss in charge if we persue either of these two, which we would be insane not to do. I guess it all depends on what he wants to do, whether he stays in an assistant role with Pies or even goes into the media for a few years. Plus he is stubborn, he will train and train until he has no hamstrings left before he retires!!
-
But would he take it? I think he has set his sights on a full time coaching job without going through those channels. At least I doubt he would want to work under Daniher.
-
Gardner said when our season was done and dusted, then he would talk to Neale about the coaching position. It's now done and dusted and he has said what we all expected him to say - that his position is under threat. Wilson is talking about of her behind again, it's as simple as that.
-
I think the horse has already bolted, regardless of how we go in the last 10 rounds. I can't see any reason why Daniher will keep his job. If we win plenty of games now, to me, it means nothing as the pressure of finals footy is way off for us now. It was even when we were 0-9 to be honest. We need a change, it's as simple as that.
-
I think you could rule out people like Sumich as I reckon he will have his eyes only on the Fremantle job. Mark Harvery, Gary O'Donnell are two obvious choices BUT are they actually good enough? They have gone for a few jobs and missed out every time, so is there something wrong with them? Longmire is there, McKenna would be an option too... would we go after Mark Williams from Sandy or is the AFL a bit out of his league?
-
I'm curious as to why you rate him... I don't necessarily think you are wrong, just interested. I personally think that the style of play he brought down would not suit us at all. We are an attacking side - when we go straight down the guts we can beat anyone. The stop, start tempo footy is not our go at all. I believe Voss would encourage us to go in hard and go straight down the guts, a style that would win us plenty of games. I don't know if that's what Daniher has been trying to do, but whatever it is, it's not working!!
-
I think we all could after Friday night! This week against Essendon will really tell us where we are at as a club. If we don't come out all guns blazing them I think that sends us the message that we are not playing for Daniher anymore. I guess you could say that we saw that against Richmond, but this week is even bigger in terms of our future. It said the deadline is the end of July so they can make a decision before that if they come to it.
-
I wouldn't mind getting John Longmire in to coach, although after looking at the style of play that Ross Lyon brought down with him from Sydney, I'm not as keen on getting someone from Sydney as I used to be! I think getting Voss would be fantastic, and I think it would be unfair to expect him to come in and win us a premiership straight away. He can build our club around the likes of McLean, Rivers, Sylvia, Jones etc and have us raring to go for the seasons to come. We have some great young players and having a guy like Michael Voss coaching them would only be a positive.
-
The problem is not just this year as we know. We serve up these games every year. Look at last year for example, when we were up and running and looking for a Top 4 spot we turn up and get our pants pulled down by Carlton. Look at 2000, our grand final year - we got flogged by 95 points against Carlton, and even 1998 we lost 2 games in a row by over 80 points. It's always happened with Daniher at the helm. I think he has done some fantastic things for the club, but we can't keep allowing ourselves to turn up and play like we did on Friday night. Our list is too good for that. It's time for a change.

An embarassment to us all
Wiseblood replied to Jonesy is the next captain's topic in Melbourne Demons
What difference does it make? He probably wanted something to do instead of watching that crap we served up on Friday night. Granted, it was a risky move in front of the ferals but I guess it beats sitting in your seat and sulking about it. I find bandwagon fans who only turn up when we are winning much worse - THEY are the embarrasment that makes our club look bad. -
Well... I wouldn't say I'm not advocating it... just that the Ooooze loves playing Richmond. But don't worry, Newton goes along rather nicely and I wouldn't be disappointed if he played! Haven't really seen the 29 running around and doing justice to "Hangtime" Shaun Smith for a long time!
-
Bring in Yze, he loves kicking goals against the Tiges! Yze, Syvlia, Robbo and Bate will cut them up all night!
-
If we are 10 goals up at 3 quarter time I STILL won't be confident! In all seriousness, alot depends on what influence Brown can have on the game and if we can shut him down. He won't play all of the game but the Tigers will lift with him on the park. If we can keep him quiet, I reckon we win.

Yeah I've also heard Kreuzer mentioned as being the best player from this draft. Also heard that this year's draft seems a little thin after Pick #30, but then I'm no scout so I wouldn't know, just what I heard.
