You would hope so, but I guess we will just have to hold our breath and wait and see !!!

Well said Jaded...... While it is definitely a risk versus reward type situation, there are times when you just have to roll the dice and take your chances. And for the Melbourne Football Club this is easily one of those times.

Does anybody care about the Carlton result on Sunday?
QueenC replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
That pretty sums up my sentiments towards the rest of the season, thanks grazman........ Winning would be great and is always preferable to me. But it will be wonderful to see everyone (from the kids to the seniors) play and try to re-gain, maintain or obtain a position in the side. But then at end of the day we all know the reality of our situation, and that just means less disappointment than usual if we lose. Particularly since I am more then interested in how they play, rather than the end result, especially considering there are a few futures on the line out there now. And most will get a pretty fair selection shake from now until the end of the season, hopefully !!! -
I tend to agree and I can't see it happening anyway...... But I do like the fact that there are starting to be people putting their hands up for the role.

No quite, but damn close...... I think you will find the membership also had a hell of a lot to say on Paul Roos getting the gig up here permanently The way I understand the Everitt to the Swans situation is that the club (and the world) knew it needed another top class ruckman immediately (open window and all that), while Everitt was coming out of contract and apparently unhappy at the Hawks, so the conclusion is fairly logical, but the club wanted to make sure that his personality would fit in at the Swans, which can be a fairly tough group. I don't think the leadership group at Sydney made the final decision alone, that would just be illogical, but it certainly doesn't hurt the club to ask for an opinion from a trusted group of senior players, especially a group which has proved to be very strong and in command of a hell of a lot within the team. But Jarka is right the Sydney leadership group does wield a large, maybe an almost unprecedented, amount of power.

Amen to that Deanox...... Totally the right decision to pull the pin on Yze, and the others, for the rest of this season. But Adem will have to work hard to regain his place next year. He has been a great servant of the club, but the reality if that the end is seriously nigh, and just like everyone else on the list he must now earn his spot in the side, rather than being the automatic selection he was for so many years. A new coach could be great, if he can help him to recapture some of the form we know that he is capable of. But his absence for the rest of the season is a good thing, in my opinion, given it opens up a (once untouchable) spot for one of those youngsters that we all hope will take us ahead in the years to come (and those pushing to stay). And it will be great to see what they are capable of over the next couple of months.

Agree with you Jaded..... Riley seems to have taken the reins and has a good plan in place to get this club, in the very least, prepared for next season. His ideas are uncomplicated and could prove to be very valuable, especially in regards to how they are handling the current injured players. And it is a great and logical endorsement of Jared's maturity and footballing mind that he is assisting the coaching department. I love his no crap attitude as well, and in this day and age of spin it is very refreshing !!!

I honestly hope that this is the only argument Ash...... In reality the rest is just emotional guff and has no particular logic to it. And I am sorry that Lloyd will miss what will be a very important and memorable game to the Essendon Football Club, in James Hirds 250th game and Adam Ramanaskus's return match........ But it doesn't matter which player performed the act, as I have already said much (much) earlier in this thread. The way I see it, it was worth the week for the action happening well after the play had stopped, and for being a forceful snipe, coming from behind, and at a player who obviously had no expectation of contact. To me that is not tough football, which is something I really like to watch. I would hate to see the good old fashioned bump and tackle removed from the game, but that was little more than a cheap shot. And Ash I am so sorry to hear about what you had to go through, you and your wife have my thoughts and, for what it is worth, best wishes.

Well said bb59, I agree with you here...... His perceived (at least) no crap approach does seem to be a good fit for a club that needs to shelve a hell of a lot of self serving rubbish or the "content with themselves" attitude, and get back to the task of playing some basic fundamental hard nosed football, a skill in which Voss also seems to be well acquainted with.

There is a very big difference between what Whelan did and what Lloyd did. And last time a checked the hip and shoulder was still legal, right? I didn't miss that memo did I? But sniping someone behind play (when play is done) is exactly that........ And if it was a Melbourne player that had done exactly what Lloyd did, then he should get cited as well. And the bump on Green was ordinary at best, but there have been a few players in recent weeks getting away with that particular front-on infraction.

There have been comments made from both "sides" of this that have not sounded great publicly....... But please lets be honest Neale's time as coach was up, it was only a matter of when, and if the timing of it is what people are bitching about then we really need to get over it - it got accelerated by a disgraceful loss, the type of loss that can hit at the credibility, even the integrity of a club, but that is what happens in what is an extremely cut throat industry and now that its done, hopefully it will be proven to be for the betterment of the club. As for the comments I admit I wasn't completely wrapped in some of Paul's public statements, some of them were even a little out of line, but I can totally understand why he has done what he has done. And I even applaud him for at least trying to put Melbourne first and his (or our) personal feelings second, because whether we like it or not that is the kind of action that will get the job done for us off the field both now and in the future. But whether or not you have faith in Gardner, or whether or not you agree, disagree or just plain dislike some of his actions and comments, it doesn't really matter and it doesn't change the fact that Neitz probably should not have said what he said on radio after the game on Friday. And it is just plain hypocritical if you think that Gardner can't speak, but Neitz has the right to speak out against club decisions, which is essentially what he did. As for the speculation of a rift between the players and the board.......... Demon boss denies Daniher rift I hope that this is just wayward rambling on the part of some here. Because it could be stated that the players assisted in Danihers downfall nearly as much as he did it to himself, and therefore their love and respect for the coach (which I don't doubt) didn't really see any of them through. I understand the emotion and disappointment of losing a friend coming out in the moment, but at the end of the day the players need to keep playing (their asses are on the line now as well) and try to give Melbourne a boost, because that is what they are paid to do. And I hope now that this seems to have settled down to an extent that there will be some reconciliation because I truly believe, or at least hope, that everyone wants what is best for the club. And frankly if any of them want to vent, then I hope that they keep it in house because there is no point giving the media anything else to chew on.

Sylvia cleared of Didak link

I think that is why he was offered only the one week and not more - good records and early pleas always bring down the sentance. What is that now for the Bombers? Three wins by less than two points. The rub is most definitely going their way this season. It happens, they didn't really get much of it over the last couple of years.

I love to read the reports on these things...... I will be waiting for you guys to get back from your big days out !!!

It was a cheap shot on an unsuspecting player. Since when does that qualify as "tough" footy? Maybe Brocky, and if Carrolls "hit" was declared illegal, then he should be walking the plank as well. But I am not sure the "he made me do it" argument will or should fly, because as Bub said it was quite a time later, Lloyd had kicked at goal, the siren had gone and whether it was a square up is pretty much irrelevent given the time lapse. He elbowed an unsuspecting player in the back with enough force to put him down. Retribution? Yes probably, but still cheap and most definitely illegal.
-
Sorry Ash, but you don't get to run through the opposition pack after the three quarter time siren and elbow someone forcefully in the back, putting him on the ground, inciting a small rumble in the process, and just expect to get away with it. Nope can't do that. As for the other "decisions" by the tribunal, I don't think that they have got this one right yet. Goodes should have been given a week for the Godfrey snipe, which I think ended up being a reprimand, and if not then he definitely deserved a week for the Hird snipe, which I don't think was brought up at all. He was bloody lucky not to be sitting out on a couple of occasions but then again the tribunal is getting more and more like a raffle by the day.
