Oh for heavens sake...... Now, I regard Maguire very highly at CHB, and I believe he would be great pick up, if we were able to get him, which is always the question. The Saints fan site are starting to get a little bit nervy about the the fact that Goose along with Xavier Clarke have not signed with the club as yet, and given how many big names they have had to re-contract (Kosi, Reiwoldt (on some big dollars apparently), Dal Santo, Hudgton, Fiora, last week, and an extra year for Fisher, who wasn't even out of contract) this season, there is an ever growing worry over there that they are running out of cash. As for his injuries, he had some injury concerns early on in his career back in 2002 and 2003, but got through that and was playing really good footy in 2005 and 2006 right up until he broke his leg at the end of last season. And seriously if anyone considers that a freak accident like that makes a player injury prone then maybe we are not on the same train of thought. Of course he has not played as well because of that break this year, but the talent is definitely there. I honestly believe he would be a great asset to our backline.

I am pretty sure that no player is worth a million a year........ This is because while he would make us better, the flip side is the cost problems it could cause with the rest of the list. One man can help win us a Premiership, but he certainly can't do it alone, and for that price he may well have to <_< !!!

I wrote in another thread that I believed that Bailey should be given the right to appoint whomever he wanted to without being handcuffed to the past. And while I bear Riley absolutely no ill will (although I don't think he was ever going to get the gig, despite being one of the final five candidates) I want to see a completely new philosophy at the Demons. And the way I see it for that to occur I would think new personnel will need to be in place. A clean slate. Besides it would not be the easiest of roles for Riley to go back to being an assistant under the man who beat him to the top job. As for Mahoney, I don't know much about him but I do know that he is very recently retired, played in Ports Premiership, and stated that he wanted to coach, and from what I can remember came up through the footy ranks the hard way. Not the most naturally skillful or talented but worked hard to become a real player. I also trust Baileys judgement and hopefully this will prove to be another good move for our future !!!

The title of this story did make me giggle..... Dees in Greek disco fight

But no Swedes ?!!!

......as opposed to being a major international incident :D !!!

There are valid comparisons between the Shinboner and the Bloods up here in Sydney. The Swans have really grabbed a hold of that historical ethos to be a meta for the way it plays the game. And the more I read this the more it sounds like we are talking about the gangs out of West Side Story !!!

Thanks Dee man...... A great read with plenty of perspective on this year, and what may happen next. I appreciate you sharing it with us :D !!!

And yet it has only just happened....... I believe that Bailey will hold onto a couple of the more unpopular souls (maybe a Miller, Johnson or Warnock, or the like) that are still relatively young and have shown some potential, to see what he can do with them under his coaching and his conditions over the next twelve months (and twelve months only). This should be expected to a degree and we should support it, especially given we can't flick everyone we want in the one go !!!
-
Boy, we can only hope but until we know I won't be holding my breath !!!

.....not to mention Ferguson, Warnock and Chris Johnson . Who knows what will happen in the future, but these guys may have some trade value and if nothing is forthcoming then, further decisions may need to be made. Plus some of these players are quite a bit younger younger, and there is the thinking that maybe Bailey could want a crack at them before cutting them loose.

And it looks like we finally are...... This time of year can be tough, but is definitely necessary and it is good to see the club bite the bullet. Anyway, thanks to the boys for their time at the Dees !!!

Fantastic post hangon....... I agree with you, so well done for articulating what tends to be an unpopular opinion so well. And keep up the good work :D !!!

Time to put Whelan on the trade market
QueenC replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Oh I know that Rhino, I was talking in theory, reality is always vastly different....... Besides I have always been what some here might call "conservative" in the trading department. In that I am not willing to send everyone who currently wears our jumper out the door willy nilly, only to be replaced with players of equal, or even lesser value. This concept no matter how popular with the masses, especially after a poor year, will not help us in any way to get to that ever elusive Premiership. To me trading is done only for the improvement the list (and I swear I have written that a few times now) and not just to shuffle the deck chairs. So with that in mind, I have no issue with the trading of certain higher profile players (because after all they will always bring the better deals, not the second or third stringers, who, unlike some here, I am also not quite willing to just give away), but only if there is someone on the other end that deal that the club believes will better us serve in our quest for the flag. If this isn't the case then you are just trading for tradings sake, and not much will come from it. -
Time to put Whelan on the trade market
QueenC replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
That would apply to nearly everyone on our list I would have thought? -
So bub, let me get this straight, you are looking at getting rid of (trade or delist) up to 15 players in one fair swoop? Doesn't that seem like just a touch too many to let go in one go? Now I am all for the need to re-generate our list, it is a necessity, at this point, but I simply can't see any more than six to eight changes being made this year (three already of course) and then in all likelihood the same number could be made again at the end of the following year if that is required then. Besides I would have thought that the preference would be to build through the draft, rather than top up in trade. I am certainly not opposed to trading one of our bigger name players (Bruce would be my preference, but I guess we should look at Johnstone, but I would hold onto Green above these two if I had a choice), but only if something equally as valuable and necessary to the improvement of our list is on the other end. To me any changes made during trade week will only be done if we can guarantee something better or more important to us in return. How many players that causes us to lose is totally speculative and even irrelevent, given we have actually got no idea what other teams may want from us or are willing to give us. And we certainly have no idea at this point in time who our new administration could put on the table or what they want or expect in return.

Oh yes some common sense and logical thought....... Thank goodnes for you bezlebub :D !!!
