Did Summers on Melbourne seem hotter when you were a kid? I remember water restrictions with buckets to fill up our clark pool and swimming Christmas day. Having lived in both Sydney and Melbourne, I've never understood the schedule of test matches in Oz. Sydney's weather is reliably rainy and should be the first cab of the rank in late November. Melbourne is reliably unreliable and should be the last in late Jan. But too much tradition too change now.

I will say I'm glad Warner is stepping down. Not for any behavior issues but simply because he has been out of form for a very long time. Also I didn't get what divine right he had to some sort of send off. Maybe he deserves one but he didn't deserve in form anyway the right to keep playing until he could have a send off in Sydney.

Now that I've looked at the stats I wonder how good that Lions team was. They never finished minor premiers in those three years they won the flag.

That game was played at a frenzied pace. To be fair to Essendon they had an incredible amount of talent. One of those awesome teams that pop up every so often. The Dons had dropped one game all year compared to our eight. One could argue that team should have won multiple flags as they finished first the year prior and after. It's why I really hope we win this year because cup windows don't stay open that long. The irony to be beaten by such a great team was that the Dons were hammered by one of the best teams ever in the Lions that won three in a row.
