    CYCLING

Certainly have. He's been my boy since he consistently buried himself for his brother in his first tour. Was going to put a 5er on him to win the stage last night at 9-1 but chickened out. Enjoyed it equally in the end anyway! Tonight's stage is great, Contador attacking early.
  2. A poor example when discussing Morton as a player, and possibly the most irrelevant too.
  3. Trengove: "Trengove said Scully's future was not generally a topic of discussion around the club, with his teammates going by his statement earlier in the season that he wouldn't negotiate a contract until the year is done." Why in the world would the players think like this? Disgrace to the club they all must be.
  4. Love the McDonald departure as the basis for Bruce leaving, that was ultimately proved to be fallacy, chestnut popping up again. Maybe Scully's leaving because of how Bailey spoke to CJ when he left.
  5. Matthew Lloyd's book? It'll keep falling off the shelf!
  6. Some of the worst 'journalism' I've read.
  7. Morally, I think anyone running a sport has the responsibilty to make the sport as safe as possible for the competing athletes.
  8. And even they did, they probably wouldn't know any better anyway.
  9. Not true. Port and the Dogs both won last year the week after their game. One in the Showdown and the other in a thrashing. The Dogs won the year before as well from memory.
  10. I'm in a Richmondesque formslump, don't know if I can complete the double over DD this weekend.
  11. Or, those were the games where he was most effectively shut down in the game and thus Melbourne's output and effectiveness diminished.
  12. Suprised you missed this Benno. After round 18.
  13. Slight analysis. 81 of the 119 people who voted, or 68% of Landers, think we can pinch one of the next 4. Distrubingly, only 20 out of about 80 voters think that our Captain and VC will stand up over that time (Davey's obviously may have been higher if he'd been playing, but somehow I doubt it). Moloney, Jamar and Sylvia are the 3 players we, (over 50%ish) expect to stand up over that time. The Carlton game is the standout favourite for a pinched win, WC second. We should be well aware, however, that we will most likely go into these games as massive underdogs and posters should imagine what result that would expect from each game if it were the other way around.
  14. What's "conspiracy theory" about imagining that Demetriou sat and watched Jordan McMahon take a mark after the siren and kick a goal from 50 to secure MFC's compensation pick, safe in his knowledge that in over 2 seasons Tom Scully would sign for the AFL's newest franchise and MFC would be compensated once again...?
  15. About as powerful as this.
  16. Maybe we could get Craig Nettlebeck back and throw him in too...
  17. I may buck the trend here a little and go for the lesser celebrated wins. Obviously all the ones above are great, but here goes for some others. 1994 Round 24 versus Sydney. 18.13 to 27.5 with the Ox kicking 9 straight. 1998 Round 22 versus Richmond. They needed to win or lose by a small amount, we won by 76 and Farmer took one of the best marks you're likely to see. 1998 the infamous Qualifying final against Adelaide. A smashing, but the less said the better. 1999 Round 4 versus Hawthorn. Ripper match, scores close for much of the last term. Robbo punched through the point (ala Trengove 11 years later). Last quarter went 35 and what an atmosphere! 2000 Rounds - lots. 2, 14 (people often forget that we were 6-7 when we played the Pies, 9 second half goals from Farmer was a highlight beyond many others. We were actually only one win above Collingwood), 21 - the Olympic match when Woey ran riot, loved his celebration on the Members wing, that's when I knew we were a good thing. Collingwood also rolled North that day in a boilover that gave us 3rd and a passage to the GF. Prelim final, great fun and a square up for two years previous. 2001 round 2 versus Adelaide. 3 point down with 20 seconds to go. Throw in, Schwarz to Leoncelli goal with 3 seconds left for a 3 point win. 2002 Round 14 versus Brisbane. 6 goals down at quarter time at the reigning premier's, 31 down at the half. Finals were on the line, I remember leaving my grandparents 30 odd down and turning on the telly at home to see us 20 odd up with Neitz kickign 7 (it's amazing how many great wins he spearheaded for us). 2002 Round 19 versus West Coast. Injuries, 3 losses, 9th placed Dees went to Perth to play the 5th placed Eagles, coming from behind to win by a goal. 2003 Round 13 versus St Kilda. Quarter time scores level. Half time scores level. 20 minutes into the third quarter scores were level. We won the last quarter by a point. In a 6 minute spell at the end of the 3rd, we kicked 7 unanswered goals. A fun day in a bleak season. 2004 Round 6 versus Carlton. 92 points ip at 3/4 time, 'nuff said. 2004 Round 15 versus St Kilda. Big top 4 clash on the G, playing against a good St Kilda side when it looked like we were the two up and coming teams. Riewoldt kicked 9, we won by 57. Oh the false dawn...but still a fun win. 2004 Round 17 versus Hawthorn. For the sole reason that it left us top of the ladder for the first time of my adult(ish) life - I believe. 2005 Round 1 versus Essendon. Beating the Scum in an emotionally charged match was heart-wrenching and amazing. 2006 Round 6 versus Geelong. Dees dodgy start to the season, Neitz goes down pre-match and Dunn comes in. J. Hunt marks the ball out 20 in front in the 3rd term to put them over 4 goals ahead and he mocks a Melbourne player near him. Misses the shot, Davey kicks one of the goals of the year and the Dees win by a kick. 2006 Round 11 versus Collingwood. A Queen's Birthday smashing. From memory both teams were in form, massive crowd, great win. 2007 Round 10-11. Wins over Adelaide and Collingwood were fun. Daniel Bell and Green playing a blinder, then Robbo downing the filth.
  18. You were too good mate, well played! See you finals indeed, they are off the radar for me!
  19. A massive month of football ahead for the MFC. Whilst I see the point of many that we don't deserve to play finals, and furthermore that it would just be to make up the numbers, I think this month ahead is an important stage of the team's development to becoming a power side. It's vital that we begin to knock off good teams and if we can pinch one of these 4 games I think we can make finals. This period is also crucially important for the older players of the club. They have been rightfully pilloried this year, but strong leadership and good performances would go a long way to rectifying their season and reputation. I think we're good enough to snatch at least one of them, what do others think?
  20. Wouldn't we not want to waste one of them on a player we'd be getting anyway? Knowing the AFL, they would probably make use use them in 2012 anyway!
