  1. Vince cleared, Ceglar one week for striking Hogan
  2. a hairline cheekbone fracture is often only a week. Cotchin was touch and go to play after a week. And we play on Monday.
  3. not according to Misson....see the last injury update on the website
  4. With you on Kennedy and Garland for Harmes and Omac and would like to see Grimes get an opportunity. However, a) don't think they'll make 3 further changes after 5 last week (unless by some travesty Bernie is suspended); b) Vandenberg has to be given an opportunity to find form (as do Dawes and Trengove). And none of the three were horrible.
  5. Specifically: “He’s got a little crack there, but nothing too serious, so he’ll miss this week, even though he’ll probably end up training tomorrow. He won’t play this week, but he’s almost a certainty next week.
  6. I think you'll find Garland will be right this week - club (Misson) said as much in the injury update. The cheekbone was not as bad as first feared
  7. In Garland / Kennedy. Out Harmes / Omac. Kent and Garlett on last chances. Not sure we have the right match-ups for Cox and Cloke with Dunn injured.
  8. The Rioli family patriarch has passed away overnight. Will this see Cyril scratched? Rioli family patriarch Cyril Kalippa dies aged 81
  9. Wanted 5 changes so happy on that front. Roos has clear bias to both Dawes and Vandenberg and they need to see if a fit Dawes can offer anything. Pederse unlucky. The Frost inclusion baffles me the most as it flies in the face of the "solid block of form at Casey" mantra. Absent some other explanation or imperative for team balance, the resentment seeds get sown with selections like this. Omac staying in the team astounds me....and it would astound Pedersen, Dunn and Grimes too......
  10. yes....but Tyson who had the same affliction was included for the Port match whilst Pedersen was not (and hasn't been mentioned in despatches since).
  11. The thread brings back fantastic memories. He was a very very good footballer. I didn't watch all of last night as I was too disappointed in Sheahan focusing unduly on the hits and failing to highlight some of the points made in this thread in terms of his kicking and marking skills. I left the country in 1990 just as the writ was served (by Eugene Arocca no less - one more reason to hate Norf) and wasn't around to see things play out. It wasn't clear on last night's program as to why the writ was served two years after the incident and nor why there was the loss of earnings element (given that Wallace was right to play the week after the incident). Can anyone give me some colour and also on how the whole thing played out in terms of the decision to settle etc?
  12. yes, so that leaves us with the question as to whether Diamond had his wires crossed with Vandenberg (flagged as a possible but unconfirmed scenario by a mod) or the more nefarious scenario........
  13. Very insightful analysis.... 7 changes probably a bridge too far - 5 is realistically what we can hope for. Both Trengove and Vandenberg too great a risk on the AFL level match fitness front. Pick one and look to bring the other in next week. Michie to miss. Harmes to stay in. Dawes will get picked and I suspect he may well have a few pundits on here revising their views. Pederson a bit unlucky.
  14. What was disappointing for me was the lack of support from his team-mates when he was obviously labouring under a heavy tag. Jones and/or Vince could've done more in my view, along the same lines that Viney himself has flown the flag for team mates several times this year. I think Clarrie will be superb in this arena in due course and hopefully Gus. Doesn't seem to be Tyson's thing, not Vandenberg for that matter.
  15. Just on selection, it's a minimum of 4 changes. 5 is not out of the question. Our biggest issue is defensive balance with Garland (presumably) and Omac both needing to be replaced. Pederson going down back looms likely with Dawes coming in to the CHF role. Oliver, Trengove and one of Grimes or Vandenberg would be the other logical changes (with the outs being some combination of Viney / Kennedy / ANB / Newton / Harmes / Kent). I thought Hunt and Stretch were ok. Personally, would be much happier if Dunn returns down back and both Dawes and Pederson are in and we start rotating the three of them through the forward line and two of them (Gawn and Pederson) through the ruck. This puts a bit more duress on the midfield and Trenners (with his elite tank) needs to be part of the solution. The current arrangement with Gawn is not sustainable.
  16. The lead-up to this game was like watching a slow motion car crash. The majority on here opined that OMac wasn't up to it basis the Brisbane performance. Many noted how Westhoff had traditionally torn us apart. Dixon loomed as a threat. The impact of a 6 day turnaround on the younger players 10 rounds in was flagged by others (particularly after the flat performance against the Saints following the previous 6 day turnaround. Pederson was left out without explanation. Tyson who'd suffered the same affliction played. Dunn who was an obvious answer to shore up the defence for many was overlooked. Finally, the markets (who mostly get it right btw) told us promptly what they thought, flipping the odds 48 hours out after teams were announced. Not good enough in my view and the 3 or 4th time obvious selection errors have been made this year. Too carried away with the performances of young, inexperienced kids (promising as they are). Not respectful enough of hardened opposition. Successfully managed to play Wingard and Westhoff back in to form. Just so bloody frustrating. Oh....and btw...for those who think that getting games in to Omac for development is more important than winning games and securing a possible finals appearance this year, please just acknowledge that until the guy has a sufficient skill level to hit a target at 25-30m consistently, he should not even be in the side.
  17. Think it might be Wagner or Hunt instead of Michie but whoever it is can feel a tad unlucky. Surely Trenners MUST return in a game on the G....either Hawks or Pies....the problem they have is that Grimes is logically ahead of Trenners. And no Casey game this week for anyone to press their case. I wonder if any of them will play in the Development league? I think Roos will be keen to have Dawes back in there sooner rather than later.....
  18. Have been following the ongoing saga of Jesse's contract status with interest. I think the key aspect is that the MFC have done everything they committed to in terms of putting a quality list in place, creating a superb culture and environment, an elite coaching and development group (with ongoing continuity). If Jesse thumbs his nose at that for Freo / Perth then we can all take solace from knowing nothing more could've been done and it becomes a matter of extracting the maximum amount of value that we can (for which we're in a very good position). He certainly has conveyed the impression in the last few weeks of someone who's invested. Re the scuttlebutt....I'd like to think Simon Goodwin in a public forum is a more reliable source than some third rate internet journo.
  19. Part of the key to managing the next two weeks is the Casey fixture - they played on Saturday (night) so any players called up for Alice Springs will have had a 7 day break. Equally for the Hawthorn game, Casey has a bye this weekend. Pederson and Tyson falling "ill" at an opportune time adds to the stocks of fresh in form players. As Roos has telegraphed, expect quite a few changes this week (and next), irrespective of team performance.
  20. A bit surprised to see no discussion around Wagner. Think he might go out for a week or so. It's been a solid block but there's been a few ragged edges in the last couple of weeks. Dunn is the obvious match-up on Dixon I would've thought. Garland must stay in the team - looked like he was running in to a bit of form in the 2nd half and confidence was lifting. Jetta a lock, OMac back to Casey. Tyson back in (assuming he's ok) for Newton. Can't drop ANB on that performance. I think Roos would love to play Dawes and given there's no Casey game, I think it will happen. Not sure who makes way though.
  21. I would counsel that the Match Committee deliberations might be a tad broader in focus than what's playing out on here. It's a 6 day turnaround to the Port game after the Lions and a reasonably lengthy road trip with a high probability of the match being played in warm conditions. Casey have a bye that weekend as well. It is then a seven day turnaround to Hawthorn at the G. All of this has implications for the number of changes for this week and the personnel involved.
  22. The methodology is simplistic to be sure for the reasons already mentioned. Moreover, we beat Collingwood and Richmond in critical season defining games for both of them. The significance of this shouldn't be overlooked but obviously the draw difficulty methodology can't factor this in. The other aspect is that form changes - Port Adelaide in the first 5 weeks was a different prospect altogether than the last couple of weeks (and possibly going forward). One thing is clear though for the Dees, the draw for the balance of the season is reasonably challenging.
