It's going to be irrelevant whether we beat them or not, both teams are going to finish bottom three and I get the feelign we're got our eyes on different players in the draft. The only thing that may matter is who gets the earlier pick in the psd. I hope we demolish them

The OP asked for most valuable, not best. Brad Green Most likely at the end of the season Bailey will continue with his youth policy and more of our senior players will either be delisted or traded. Our team will continue to be young and inexperienced going forward for the next couple of years which means that the remaining senior players will have a very important role in setting the right example and showing leadership on the ground. Green has proved his worth time and time again, but the next couple of seasons will be his most important as he greatly influences the next batch of demons coming through with the right work ethic and application. Cameron Bruce Same as Green, any player now over 26 who are still getting games are very important in providing the leadership to the younger, developing players. Brock McLean The engine room is where it all starts and Brock is clearly the main man in this group. He's had a great season before getting injured and I'm confident he'll continue to grow into a leader that we all know he is capable of being. Is our best midfielder. Nathan Jones Even though he's still young he's already shouldering the midfield load alongside McLean, the two of them will be the basis of our midfield over the next decade. Brad Miller Although he's not in our best top 10 he is vitally important because at the moment we lack any other key forwards capable of playing consistently at the highest level. Once the new draftees start playing he's going to be needed to give them guidance, support and to protect them. Colin Garland He's had a sniff now and has shown what he's capable of achieving, what the club needs to do is to build a stable defence who will play together over the next half a decade, if Colin can claim one of the key roles down back then Bailey has a player that he can mould the defence around. Cale Morton Perhaps only because he is such an early pick the club needs for him to develop into at least an A grade player, perhaps too much pressure at this stage but he looks to have it all - endurance, balance, poise and great disposal. We need an elite player on our list and Morton is our greatest chance for that yet. Paul Johnson Not our most talented player but he's shown that he's now ready to throw his big frame around the ground. We severely lack KP's capable of competing against the other giants in the AFL, which is what I see PJ's role developing into. Not specifically dominating in one position but having the flexibility to be moved anywhere on the ground to nullify his opponent, whether it be to pinch hit in the ruck and curb Sandilands dominance or to go down back to run with Richo, he's important because we don't have anyone else capable of competing on that level. Depth No club can win a premiership without depth. Valenti, Wona, Petterd, Wheatley, Grimes, Warnock, Bate etc They're all important

You missed my point. Rich is still a risk, every player drafted is, but my other main issue was not making a decision too early. I've always said that it's best to wait untill the end of the carnival and season was over before deciding. I haven't seen all the games yet and I still want to see how they play for the rest of the season before deciding

Jack Watts - Confirmed #1 Pick in 2008 Draft - Booyah!!!
Jarka replied to Tex's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd prefer to get a guy like Jetta (or Deboer), very quick mid with nice skills, rather than an inbetween sized forward who hasn't had a great carnival. -

Deboer is a certain top 10, perhaps under the radar here but not over in the wet. I'd wet my pants if he slipped to our pp pick -
VIC Metro vs WA on Fox Sports - Wednesday July 9th
Jarka replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
Last night I cleared out the iQ to record all the games so I can take my time and watch the games when I want -
Thsi year was always going to be a difficuly one for Meesen, he's basically had no game time over the last two seasons so he's had to start all over again, made especially difficult for a ruckman who generally develop a little later anyway. We shouldn't make conclusions of his ability until well into next season.

Have any current Melbourne players not yet played with Sandy?
Jarka replied to Demon Ally's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jnr McDonald played with Sandy four times between 2000 & 2002, kicking three goals. He played in the reserves only once. I'm pretty sure it's only Bartram. -
Two? We know Garland is good but who is the second one?
-
If someone close to me died I'd probably have more than a couple of drinks with friends/family to honour their life. Davey did the right thing by being honest to his teammates and accepting the penatly on the chin.

Actually he's played 4 games* with Sandy and kicked 10 goals. Better never let reality get in the way of a good troll hey ym Edit: * As of 2005 -
Didn't see that coming, well done Colin!!

I haven't voted yet and probably won't until after the carnival and draft camp. Up until now I've been in the Naitanui camp, however I'm begining to change my mind. There are a couple of very, very good mids in this draft and then there's Watt. I have my concerns over the latter, mainly that we haven't seen too many 'great' games from him, but if he continues to perform for the rest of the season then it would be hard to go past him. At this stage I'd be happy to get Watt, Rich or Hartlett with our pick, regardless of whether it's 1, 2 or 3.

I think you're right with your asessment but for some people though that isn't an option. I appreciate his report and his insights, it's posts like his that make demonland a great tool for fans to get an update on what's going on around the club.
-
Thanks for the report, it's good to read considering I was unable to go to the game. Just one small thing, this is a pet hate of mine. What is the point of the bolded part? If you don't want to share I can understand that, as a former player sponsor I understand that you wouldn't want to divulge some info given by the players however you've bascially boasted "I know something that you don't know." Other than that it's a great report for those of us who couldn't make it, very insightful specifically regarding Newton. Cheers
-
Actually his passing has been very good, probably the best in the team, but you're right, he doesn't have the awareness nor vision of TJ (when TJ is switched on)
-
Just a small detail, it's Naitanui. I've been on the Naita bandwagon but I still want to wait until the rest of the carnival (and season) before making a judgement. I guess at this stage I wouldn't really care if we ended up with any of Naita, Rich or Watts, let's face it, we need a ruck, gun mid and power forward so we'll win either way. All three look like they're going to be stars, it looks like a good year to have an early.pick

Daniher didnt give us a spine in 10 years. Bailey will do it in 1.
Jarka replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's a sobering analysis, isn't it? It just highlights though that we're a long way off from being competitve. -
Keenan is a fool, I'd want more evidence than his babbling to believe something was going to happen, he also hates the MFC which often clouds his judgement regarding us.
-
The forgotten man in all this is Yarran, who is an absolute beauty. If we did win a few more games and we had pick 4 or so I'd be very, very happy to pick up this kid.
-
More like he'd want to come back because Matthews expects him to work hard, sadly for TJ it wouldn't be any different here with Bailey as coach. He won't leave Brisbane, I don't believe any team would take him
-
At the start of the season I stated that this move would be ridiculous, as proved by his performances up until then. Now though (take note Jaded, who has been fighting the fight) if he continues with the form, desperation and leadership that he's shown over the last half dozen games then it wouldn't be all that bad. I'm extremely happy to have Brad Miller proven that I was wrong, I'll just go and eat some pie. PS Now he just has to work on his consistency
-
Good post fatty. With respects to what we'll achieve over the next couple of seasons, I think we'll have more of a clean out of our mature players at the end of the year. Anyone over 28 at the end of the year who retains their spot on the list will considered to be lucky, very lucky, and I can see us continue to develop the yopunger guys next year as well. Guys like Martin, Grimes, Maric, Cheney, McNamara and the new draftees will all get decent game time, we'll have less depth due to the cuts so it wouldn't surprise me if we finished with below 5 wins or thereabouts. Mind you I wouldn't be overly concerned because I see these couple of years as a transitional phase and extremely important for our future. Developing a solid list is the most important aspect, apart from the culture of the club of course(I need to add that point just in case some wacko accuses me of not thinking it's important again...). I wasn't overly impressed when we signed Bailey, I definitely wasn't a fan at the start, but I can't help but be impressed with the way that he's gone about it this year. I guess it helps that I wasn't expecting to play finals so I don't have that disappointment affecting my judgement.

Spot on CB, I remember the ding dong arguments we had with them, even as recently as last season.

meh, I try not to read your threads
