We now have some decent young talent on list all thanks to being crap over the last couple of years, that's a poor list. Sure we'll get better but the results speak for themselves.
-
So what was your point with the reference to games or are you just trying to get the post total up? Hawthorn didn't start playing well until they replaced him.
-
All those things you mentioned are a result of our club being bland. Poor list, very little class, poor leadership, financially insecure and a poor following, it's the complete package, or lack thereoff, which is turning sponsors away from us.
-
Just because someone plays over 100 games of footy doesn't make them leadership material
-
lol, no [censored] sherlock, your powers of observations are amazing!! I hope you're not saying that being a better footballer than 95% of the population is a good reason to be made captain...
-
Paul Hopgood played over 100 games...and if you look at Richmond's list there's been many ordinary players with 100+
-
My wish list for a captain is for someone who is able to lead and inspire on the ground, as well as a very marketable person of it, it just seems bizarre to me that the so called 'only choice' is a bloke who everyone seems to agree on the fact that this is going to be his final year. As I've said earlier I think the decision is more of a reflection on the lack of leadership we have on the list between the ages of 25 - 30 rather than anything about jnr himself.
-
I understand what you're saying and I agree to some extent however over the last half dozen years the club has become very bland. we desperately need to start a new season to show case our new emerging talent.
-
If a guy is clearly good enough to be in the starting 18 and to lead the team why on earth would you delist him?
-
They made another mistake in one of the MCDonald articles, the last line states that we've had 40 captains since Flower in '87....
-
I disagree to the responses so far, at that level it's important to have a good understanding on what other organisations do and how they operate, especially very successful ones. The term 'junket' is just a cheap shot on what is a legitimate business practice, as for Jeff Kennett making these demands go back and look at his movements when he was premier, what a hypocrite.
-
That's all well and good but you think he should be delisted at the end of the year... http://forums.demonland.com/index.php?show...mp;#entry201188 If you think he deserves to be captain so much why do you think he should be delisted at the end of the year? Surely if he's good enough this year he'll play for at least another season, and if he's not why pick a bloke on the decline?
-
I see this as the safe option for the club
-
I can understand why they've selected McDonald (if they have), a very underrated player, especially over the last half dozen years however....I think by mid year he's going to struggle to hold his spot. He's 32 and 09 will be his last year, the decision says more about our leadership group in the 25-30 age group bracket than anything else.

Good discussion on the rucks, one question for everyone. when was the last time a team won a flag with a weak ruck division?
-
You're right, let me restate my comment, however the weight issues were one of being over weight, not under.
-
The reference to Cupido is irrelevant, his problems had nothing to do with his weight and everything to do with his attitude.
-
I think he's too talented for Casey's 2nds.
-
The same Citibank who pulled their home mortgage division out of Australia and have cut down the total operations here by about half? I don't think so.
-
No I'm not, but in this particular case I know that the author of the post is in a strong financial position, thus I wasn't sterotyping, merely pointing out that not all Melbourne supporters are in the same financial position. Although on that topic I would highly doubt that there are very many struggling lawyers relative to the number of struggling factory workers. I challenge anyone to prove otherwise. As for the petty name calling - meh. If someone wants to anonymously call me a fool on an internet forum then that's more of a reflection on them than me. I understand exactly what his argument is
-
I disagree, the altered drafts will be in 2010 and onwards and if were still getting number 1 picks then we'll probably be dead anyway. The new teams are going to have very little impact on our rebuilding and in the end the only entity who will stop us from rebuilding is us, like it's been over the last 8 years.
-
I'm a fool for pointing out that not everyone is able to help the club by purchasing extra memberships? This is the comment that I disagreed with: Clearly the author of this post is in a position to help, which is why he wrote it, now you too have constructed an argument against him... So, who is the fool now? lol, idiot, next time read the whole debate before getting your knickers in a knot.
-
http://forums.demonland.com/index.php?show...mp;#entry202210 Show me in that article where it states he'll be playing for Casey's 2nds
-
Wrong, some people are in a position to be able to help the club alot more than others, and I can guarantee you that someone on a lawyer's salary is much more able to help than a factory hand with a family who's just been retrenched from a car manufacturing company. But hey, don't let reality can get in the way of a good ol' circle jerk.
-
I favour the 'optimistic pessimism' approach, sought of like the recession we had to have approach. Sure we're crap at the moment, but at least it's forced the club to rebuild the list properly.
