  1. The only issue I have is that alot of our depth is based on potential, and as we've seen over the last decade we've had alot of potential come through the club but for various reasons it hasn't materialized. I'm am hoping though that things will be different under Bailey. Carlton's top players are way ahead of ours
  2. Sometimes I curse the ability to read after one of your posts.
  3. You know what's funny about this? We're all so used to Freak cming up with the most ridiculous statements it's now almost expected from him. If anyone else came up with stuff like 'Gary Ablett isn't talented, he's only good because his body shape means he can't get tackled' they'd be laughed off the forum and too embarrased to return under the same username. Every village has one.
  4. So he went on the [censored] for 1 month after finishing his career...I'm probably going to get flamed for this but is this for real?
  5. Stewie Loewe went from one of the worst kicks to pretty good so it can be achieved
  6. Well, you are a lawyer which would fit the profile of a shady character
  7. Clearly Ablett is only a good player because his body shape enables him to avoid tackles... That's even funnier the second time around
  8. Robert Flower - champion on and off the ground David Schwartz (Pre knee injuries) - Was as good as any CHF I've seen. A.Jakovich - Geez, this guy was good, least amount of games to career 50 & 100 goals, easily the most skilled footballer I've seen G.Lyon - Captain grumpy was an inspirational leader J.Farmer - At his peak he was the best small forward in the modern era Special mentions: G.Lovett, S.Tingay, T.Viney, A.Davey, J.Stynes Edit: Forgot about Neitz, still not in my top 5 though, slide him in the 'special mention' section.
  9. That's rubbish that the match committee would make a final decision on just one game, if they did that then Maric would never play again.
  10. Maric did the same with his first game this year. I just think it's harsh because it's difficult for a player to get any sort of consistency happening when he's only given the odd game here and there.
  11. OK but sign him up for round 22, we still want a pp
  12. As much as I want Cheny to play my interchange would be Petterd, Jones, Maric & Bennell. Harsh on Valenti, he really needs 4 or 5 games in a row and Jamar to get a run with Casey. What's with Jones being named on the interchange almost every week?

    2010 - draft

In a word - No. However they're not in a footballing state and the AFL probably think it's important for the team to have early success to cement it's position with the locals. I'm not sure if I agree with this opinion though.
  14. I disagree, every team you mentioned benefited significantly in some way by an extraordinary way of getting players onto their lists. Essendon - Had the least amount of help although received Lloyd through the 1994 pre draft selections for losing some average players to an interstate team. Also picked up Fletcher as a father & son. Brisbane - Where do I start? Extra room in the salary cap, access to best local talent outside of the draft (J.Akermanis), ability to pick through the Fitzroy carcass (Chris Johnson, J.Molloy - used to get M.Michael ), Father/son selection (Jon Brown), Priority pick (Headland) and a heap of low picks (Power, Lappin, Leppitsch) Port Adelaide - Pre draft selections (Tredrea, Dew, Eagleton, Wilson, James, Lade, Burgoyne, Wanganeen, Primus) + early draft picks Hawthorn - Well documented, no need to go over it again. West Coast - Priority pick (C.Judd), Father/son (B.Cousins) Sydney - Extra room in the salary Cap Geelong - Father/son selections (Ablett x2, Scarlett)
  15. Spot on RR, Many believed Cotchin to be a better footballer but you can understand why the Blues went after a kid like Kreuzer. Masten is very underrated in Victoria, that kid is going to be a star.
  16. You wonder wrong, I was of the opinion back then that we needed to qualify for a pp pick because I believed that our list needed to be rebuilt. My posts back then will support this. Another important question is to all the poeple who wanted us to win that game, what impact did that single victory make to our development and culture of winning?
  17. You know what? This is such a hoodoo, there's cries of anguish whenever this is even mentioned but I'm more than happy to say. We should actively try to aim to end up with a pp this year, and if that means aiming to not win certain games then that's what we should do. GNF is absolutely right.
  18. I'm a little unsure if effort can be 'taught'. There's been plenty of very talented players who just didn't work hard enough and eventually failed who had determined players around them.
  19. Rojik, this thread was a tongue in cheek look back at the results from the weekend, highlighting the fact that people seemed more interested in JW's performance with Casey rather than a Melbourne loss due to the pp's. Yeah, i agree, stupid.
  20. That's part of what this thread is about...
  21. Things I've learnt from this thread... 1. Hazy's stamina is unparalleled (his mrs must be very tired...) 2. Posters are prepared to believe either Stynes or Coglin's version of events as gospel while completely dismissing the opposites stance. It's this belief which ultimately influences their argument. 3. The topic of acceptance and respect of women in sport is well regarded by the MFC, by both the present admin and past. 4. Reading these types of threads seriously affects my work 5. There are no facts, just points of view.
  22. Graz, you're half right. There are two issues here, the first you've already made good points about, as have others. The other issue is Coglin going to the media, or perhaps his motivation and intent. Thsi question has not been resolved but I guess only one person knows the real reason why and unless he is willing to come onto demonland we'll never know. You know my opinion on that issue
  23. Is that surprising after Coglin went to the media? Surely even you in your blind defence could understand that simple fact.
  24. 'Sounds like' is another phrase for 'I don't know but I'll make something up that favours his position. Sounds like you're now guessing what he was thinking at the time He didn't want to make a scene but he was prepared to go to the media? Do you realise how ludicrous that sounds. He didn't wish to make a scene in front of, perhaps a dozen people? But he was more than happy for it to go out to thousands via one of the two major newspapers in Melbourne....yeah, that makes a whole lot of sense I know exactly what he said because it's in the paper, those are his words, not mine. It's not strange at all for someone who is 'incandescent with rage' Infact it's completely in character of someone who has let their emotions control their actions. I could have quoted the whole article and I'm more than happy to because it all reflects poorly on Coglin. You think otherwise because you're loyal to him, everyone knows this. Wrong, I never said that Styne's 'politely attempted some form of conflict resolution.' Typical of someone to make something up who is losing an argument. In fact in my last post I actually questioned that if Coglin tried to meet Stynes again and he declined then that would refect poorly on him. Your accusation is not logical. I'm not surprised by this response, and others that I've read since this one was made. Your argument is getting more and moe desperate. The facts remain that Coglin screwed up by going to the media. Any sympathy he may have had from the rank and file members were instantly lost in that moment. Hazy, as I've already stated several times in this thread, I agree with you that Coglin (and anyone else for that matter) has every right to challenge Stynes on this topic or another that they feel strongly about. Stynes is not untouchable and he has to answer to the members. It's sad because you obviously don't read replies in full, you just see what you want to argue against. You are so obviously loyal to a group of people that it's clouding your reasoning and judgements and this isn't the first time it's happened and I'd be surprised if it was last. What you are though is a reminder that the correct decision was made.
  25. oh, very good!
