Melbourne has always been the type of club to move 'difficult' players along, Martin Pike is an example of that. Pagan, Matthews and Worsfold have been known to try and work with these type of gifted but troubled players to help them and get the best out of them. Compare the number of premierships these coaches have won to how many we have won in the same time frame. Melbourne is a conservative club, never wanting to do anything that may be considered controversial, which may explain why we haven't been successful for so long.

I have no idea and neither do you.
-
If that's your line it complete bollocks, if everything we read in the papers is true then he was doing it last year as well and his performances on the ground was much better than any Melbourne player.
-
You're joking. Ice addiction has the potential to harm themselves - true, but driving while completely drunk has the potential to kill other completely innocent people, very [censored] easily. While you're up their claiming the morale high ground why don't you compare the amount of deaths attributed to drink driving idiots to ice influenced murders this country sees every single year.
-
No, No and No. That wasn't the point of my post though. The point was were was the outrage of getting Pickett considering his off field behavoir, why are we suddenly claiming the morale high ground? But I suppose you're right, we should just hang on to players like Bruce, Holland, Godfrey, Jamar, Yze, Miller, Ferguson, Ward, Brown and Carroll, we're sure to eventually win a GF with these types of players.

The National U18's is starting later this month and considering we'll most likely end up with a top 4 pick I thought it would be a good idea to start thread about it and just wanted to put our collective heads together and find out who are the ones to watch from each state. Feel free to add any players I've missed worthy of discussion because I am by no means an expert in this field. Once again the Vic teams look like they'll be the teams to beat, metro looking stronger. Vic Metro Kreuzer - Big, agile ruckman who can go forward. Considered by many to be the best ruckman for many years. Cotchin - Quick, great skills, capable of getting the pill himself. Touted as the best midfield in the draft and up their with Gibbs, Murphy etc. Grimes - Big bodied workhorse type midfielder (similiar to McLean I guess) Bongetti - Can play forward or back Vic Country Henderson - Quality CHF but I think is injured and may not play Tarrant - Big bodied CHF McEvoy - Athletic ruckman, can go forward and kick goals SA Greenwood - Tough, strong, skillful and can get his own ball. Currently playing for Port's first team and being named in the best. Ebert - Don't know much about him, but others have said he's very good. WA Sampey - Quick and a good mark Masten - Very good mid, possibly top 3 mids in the draft, but is 179cm. Fast. Tas Bellchambers - Very strong overhead mark, kicks lots of goals.

I'm amazed at everyone's stance on Cousins, considering a couple of years ago we traded to get another good player who has had just as bad off field incidents as him.
-
A premiership, something that Melbourne has never achieved will I've been alive.
-
Love your work :D

I would love to have Cousins at Melbourne, we'd be able to pick him up alot cheaper than Judd but he would be a wonderful addition to our midfield.
-
One more thing about Judd coming to Melbourne - if by some miracle CAC and co pull it off we'll have to make substantial room in the salary cap to pay him. That means one of three things will have to happen: 1. Delist players who are out of contract 2. Current players take a pay cut to afford him 3. We trade one or more of our high paid players to make room 2 is unlikely, we'd probably have to delist 4 or 5 to make up Judd's income so 3 is the most logical move. Players that would be an option would have to be our most highly paid guys eg Neitz, White, Bruce, Yze, Green

We've also failed dismally when it's really counted playing this style of footy, Daniher's coaching won't win us a premierhship.
-
Bruce plus a pick (or picks)
-
sure it was
-
I only mentioned the J word because the creator if this thread specifically asked a question about trading Bruce, Judd is one of several players I'd give Bruce up for so it was worthy imho.
-
You asked /shrug
-
I always thought you were female
-
I'd trade him for Judd any day of the week.
-
For 8 years? That's a bloody long time to have a fitness problems, if that's really the problem i doubt that he'll ever be able to be a consistent player.
-
Consistency has always been his issue, I'll readress my opinion on him at the end of the season, not just after one game. I wouldn't have called his performance today fantastic though....
-
I think Sheahan and Walls played a major part in the win today, which is kinda sad.
-
I'd look at trading some of those players but only if we were able to get some great out of the deal, but I wouldn't trade all of them. If another club offered us a top 5 pick for any of these guys I'd seriously think about it.
-
Zeb, what control do they give up? I'm surprised by that because I thought that Sandy ran things as they wanted to.
-
Not convinced by that, in 2005 Neitz played 18 games and in '03 he played 22. Robo is not a key forward, he's too short, but if he does play as our main target he is too easily covered. We need better than a 187cm key forward.

what more dumb decisions can be made by Daniher?
Jarka replied to gochooker's topic in Melbourne Demons
Let's not kid ourselves about Wheatley, he's on the fringe of the team, after a couple of losses he'll always be at risk of losing his spot. The negatives about his game are that he isn't big enough to hold a key position and he doesn't get enough of the ball. Sure he's a long kick but he's slow with his decision making, especially when under pressure which means thathe turns it over more often than not. He'll keep his spot on the list at the end of the year because there are others worse than him but he'll always be on the fringe because there are others who can do the same job but better.
