Pretty bizarre trade period if we land Hibberd, Rockliff and Lewis. I'm not sure what to make of it actually. Interesting also that there has been no mention anywhere of us being interested in any backup for Gawn which imo is our most pressing need.

True, and also: If (as is being suggested) he comes to us on a 3 year deal, it should be obvious that over the course of those three years he'll be playing less and less midfield time and more time forward. (And bench perhaps). It's obvious that he'd provide protection and cover for Oliver, Petracca and Brayshaw as they get their fitness levels up to elite AFL midfield standard. Lewis is a very capable forward and because of this versatility you'd see a nice and easy transition with someone like Trac for instance. Let's say next year Lewis and Trac both play 50/50 mid/forward time under the same rotation. Then in 2018 when Trac has again gone to another level of fitness he'll play 60/40 mid/forward time with Lewis playing 40/60. Etc. I know this is obvious to most, but it's a response to the same posters complaining about not wanting the MFC to be a 'retirement home' or that he'll be getting in the way of 'developing our young players' etc etc.

Whatever the case, if Hawthorn manage to land O'meara this trade period and get some decent footy out of him going forward, they've done pretty farken well. Yes, perhaps they could have managed the Lewis situation a bit better but from a broader perspective, none of this is out of the ordinary and it's all because Hawthorn refuse to bottom out. Maybe they're too proud.. I've been a big advocate for bringing in speed, running power and skill level into the midfield and whilst I'm aware Lewis is seriously one-paced, the experience and leadership card that he also possesses trumps anything that works against him. I haven't looked it up but I don't imagine there are too many other teams within the AFL who had only two players with 150+ games experience lining up for them on the regular, (this past season). Vince and Jones for us. (Great singer). As long as he is managed appropriately positionally, Lewis would be a handy addition. I imagine Petracca will play more midfield time next year with another pre-season under his belt and Angus will also be given much more time providing he doesn't get injured etc. Wait and see I guess.

If there's one thing I'm certain of, it's that you would make a really good '[censored] sports journalist'. Hear a story, run with it, put an ultimatum on the ending based on a solid guess. Kewl.

Not sure why posters assume we're doing nothing this trade period simply because they haven't 'heard' anything from SEN or bigfooty. How about just wait until the end of next week. I'm sure we'll pull a rabbit out of the hat and it won't be the Hibberd trade.

A) Because we have too many 'inside strong' mids of his type with very similar attributes B) Because history suggests that you need attribute diversity and a good mix within your midfield group and to give yourself the best chance of sustained finals success and ultimately winning a grand final. Proof being Hawthorn and the Dogs this year. C) If we're forecasting our chances of winning a flag over the next 3-5 years, look at the teams who we will most likely be competing against. GWS and the Dogs. Both teams are made for modern footy and have a much better balance of running power, skill-level and inside game. Oli Wines is a player we do not need at this stage of our list development.

Egan is 'head of development'. Chaplin is 'offensive coordinator'. How is it that you lot continue to miss the fact that within clubs there are senior and assistant coaches, line coaches, development coaches and supporting roles. "General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said Chaplin’s freshness out of the game was a pivotal part to his appointment." Yes, if he was appointed senior coach of our club straight after finishing football it'd be an eyebrow raiser. No [censored]. I think it's funny the impact posters seem to think these kinds of appointments have on determining how our group will 'perform' in the grand scheme of things. They are there to give insight, help develop players, propose ideas etc etc. They are not given the reigns on gameday and decide who is playing where and on who etc.

Well, the answer seems obvious doesn't it? As many as our budget will allow? There's no substitute for development and I hardly think the MFC would appoint anyone they don't deem fit for the position.

I fail to see the point you're trying to make given that none of Chaplin, Enright or Egan are going to become head coach of the MFC. Not only that, Enright and Chaplin both played footy this year with the former being crowned one of Geelong's greatest ever players and potentially will go down as the greatest ever half-back the world will see. They're both beginning their coaching careers and I'm making the point that regardless of 'coaching title' or 'coaching inexperience', someone like Enright could have a have a huge effect on the development of the backline given his status and someone who has just finished playing football. Your post doesn't make sense.

To have someone of Enright's calibre at our club fresh off the back of another AA gig would be handy for any club. Chaplin and Enright are and were poles apart as players and the knowledge and teachings Enright could hand down to young guys like Hunt would be invaluable. The entire backline group would benefit from having him at the club. I'm less enamoured by the Chaplin appointment but that's also because as a player, he was nowhere near the player Enright was. So let's not compare the two.

Not worried in the slightest. Is a natural footballer with aggression in the air but has got to fill out and get fitter before we see him start to really be dominant even at VFL level. Hogan had a man's body and had played a full year of underage footy before he was drafted. Weed has a boys body and didn't even play half a season the year before he was drafted. And with the scrappy style that VFL level is, if you don't have a mans body or much of a tank, you're hardly going to tear games apart. It's obvious that this year was all about getting through an entire football season for him. And I completely disagree with the poster that suggests 'no amount of muscle will increase his involvement'. Of course it will. As will his increased fitness next year.

Lols @ Richmond being interested in Caddy. They really have no [censored] idea. A starting midfield of Cotchin, Caddy and Miles with Ellis and Grigg on the wings. With Townsend, Moore, Hunt and Conca to provide support. Hells yeh.

I'm just hoping, (as I am with Hibberd) that they can both be consistently good performers for us week in/out as both are around the 100 game mark and are quality players when playing at their best. Clearly I'm stating the obvious, but if we're to make the 8 next year, these two need to have strong years.

That's what I want to know. I'm sure we're saving and have an idea of some potential targets right when we're in the sweet spot and opposition players can genuinely see we're a club on the rise. As soon as we finish 5-8 on the ladder, we're in business for big names. Need to keep our under 23 core together though.

Considering the constant speculation surrounding Mitchell moving to Hawthorn, you'd think a comment like "Mitchell is moving to Melbourne" is pretty easy to decipher. Unless of course you've been living under a rock for the entirety of 2016.

On our best day and on a top team's off day. Consistency will be another obvious factor next year. We can't continue to play at our best one week and then our worst the following. And I don't buy the 'young list' [censored]. The dog's showed what's possible if you bring consistency every week. And they have a very young list.
