  1. Yes, but what if you have rarely performed well in the NAB cup? Surely it would be a morale booster for everyone involved? Players and supporters? Look at Essendon last year? Why can't we do that this year?
  2. Once again Freak you have made a "FAIR" and accurate, non-biased assessment of Jordan in my opinion. To add further, I believe he is not nearly as much like Pendles as some think here. Yes I have heard him talking about how he would like to model his game around the Collingwood great's but the closest thing Gys has to him is height. Oh, and they both play in the midfield.... Gys seems to have a great ability to read the play from stoppages and finding the ball. He has great hands in close and also seems like he can take a good grab out in front. He has plenty of time on his side to build a big frame which will only help his ball winning ability and his marking. Defensively he could work a lot harder. Needs to add that to his game which should come with improved aerobic fitness. The only question mark for him is his disposal. Doesn't have a fantastic technique, therefore doesn't have a great kick. Let's see what happens. I will say that he is a player worth persevering with. Only my humble opinion... (Maybe I should have just gone with the rest and said, "He WILL be a STAR)."
  3. Hahaha. Amazing Lutz. Simply amazing. What you really mean is, "I disagree with your opinion of Gysberts." Lutz... mate.... pal.... you gotta take them rosey coloured sunny's off.
  4. RPFC, to be fair, you would not make a very good coach. I appreciate what you're saying about his season. I think he showed some steady improvement also. But why do you and so many others just settle at that? Why in the world is there anything wrong with someone stating that his intensity and attack on the football needs to improve? Why? Speak to anyone outside this ridiculous forum about him? Nobody, (with half a brain) would doubt his skills, ball handling ability, agility and overall talent. He has it. But if you can't see that the difference between Watts becoming a good number one draft pick and an elite number one draft pick that will be remembered for a long, long time, then you're either another ridiculously biased Melbourne supporter that loves killing time on demonland praising all players that have anything to do with the club, or, you are a nuff nuff. Again. Neeld has come from a hugely successful club in Collingwood and he sees Jack Watts as just a 'player who has played 50 game'. Does that make you think at all RPFC? I am as light as a feather HT. Your response to Nasher's post just seemed like you were suckling on that sweet udder. There was nothing wrong with Freaks post. Why didn't you respond to it if you disagreed? Go on Roost it. Why was he wrong? "Here we go again, another Melbourne supporter who won't join in with the rest of us, kissing Jack Watts and every other young player's arse! Making sure that nobody has any right to point out areas in which a player can improve their game." That was the rest of what was going through your head, yes?
  5. Agree.
  6. Nab cup or not, I want to see every player play the game at full intensity. When we have the ball and when we don't. Some players will obviously lack in the skill department but I want to see Melbourne play desperate, accountable and passionate football. Every player.
  7. A consistent mantra indeed. I guess people saw a 180 + point thrashing coming, along with games of some of the worst football seen in 2011. Many people were excited and were expecting to see us make the eight.
  8. Opposition supporters only need look here to see that we are indeed a soft club. Why do the majority continue to accept all this half arsed rubbish? Neeld has given him a kick up the backside after coming from the most professionally run club within the AFL. Why is it that people go up in arms when a poster rightly says that Watts needs to learn how to attack the footy at 100 % intensity? Why do the coaches say it? Why do football media personnel say it? Why? Wake up!
  9. Freak is absolutely correct in saying that it's Watts' biggest weakness. He is making an accurate point about something Watts needs to seriously address if we are going to see him become an elite player. I'm glad our coach can see it. You clearly have your head in the sand. As most others have alluded to, all other aspects of his game are great for someone of his age. You know exactly what he is saying. So how about you engage in some of the constructive criticism that is missing from this thread about Watts? What's your honest opinion on the matter funny guy? I didn't know stand up comedians frequented football forums so often? How old are you HT? Dear god.
  10. I said as a general rule, people will have a better understanding of the game if they have played at higher level than those who have not.
  11. I'm just giving my opinion master. There is no 'mightier than though' stigma attached. I didn't say 'I have played with x and y player and we played at this level' etc.
  12. In general Lutz. Not only about Morton and not only in this thread. You know exactly what I mean. But I am glad your overuse of sarcasm hit the sweet spot for you. Well, unless you have the odd exception to the rule or example, you will find that pretty much every coach within the AFL system has played the game to at least a VFL standard. That's got to tell you something surely... I'm using logic here. Someone who has played a higher grade of football is more likely to have a better understanding the game than someone who hasn't made that level?
  13. Just so everyone knows my status on Cale: Impartial. Hope he shows some serious improvement this year. Specifically his desire to chase, tackle and WANT to win the ball.
  14. Fair enough. As I said, I feel obliged to comment and criticise when there is too much unnecessary praise for a player going on. It's a forum for debate and discussion and opinion. If everyone came on here to declare their love for every player just because they pulled on an MFC guernsey (no matter how skilled they were), demonland would be pretty boring.
  15. I'm sorry, I'll word it differently. I believe that one of the reasons there is ongoing discussion and debate about Cale Morton here at demonland is because many people still rate him as a highly skilled footballer and it's something that myself and many others can't work out. Everyone sees our game differently. Everyone has played football at a different level. Some higher than other's. Some haven't ever played competitively. Whether people will like to admit it or not (and as I'm sure it would go with most sporting codes), as a general rule the higher the level of competition one plays of their sport, the greater their understanding of the game will be. Is that a reasonable statement? For the people that think a forward running, unaccountable, non-contested, average disposal but high possession count game deserves praise, I question their football knowledge and to what grade and level they have played football themselves. For people that believe Cale's kicking ability is a feature of his game, I question how deep their knowledge and to what grade/level of football they have played themselves. For the people that believe Cale's weight issues are the sole hindrance of his footballing abilities, I again question their understanding of the game and to what level they have played themselves. Cale was rated extremely highly after a dominant year playing under 18 football. He was taller than most and could run all day translating to dominant games of football which included high possession counts and marking over opponents easily. Contested football, aggression, tackling, blocking, defensive running and marking (among other attributes) were/are not attributes Cale Morton carried or carries. But why would they be when he was given the football so often and could out mark most at under 18 level? His disposal is another debate all together. As an 'outside' player, his kicking skills are not up to standard in my opinion and many other's. (Again, the answer will be different depending on the person asked and to what level they have played the game). Nothing happened to Cale Morton. He just got a shock once he made it to an AFL club and I think he has realised that having a large tank and being taller than other's isn't enough to make it as an AFL player. Maybe under 18's or amo's. It's not looking great for him. But obviously he, (like every other player on our list) has a chance to show whether or not he can develop enough weapons to contribute to the team on match day.
  16. The only reason Morton is continually criticised on this forum is because he has been, and still is talked up so much. There would be not nearly as much criticism if people didn't jump out of the blocks stating he would be a 'star'.
  17. When did I pot BP for missing out on Fyfe and Hanneberry Lutz? Please show me the post? Ben-Hur. The video tape was posted by someone else who made an evaluation of it. A highlights tape. A tape that shows him receive the ball, kick to team mates and take a couple of marks. I simply said that it was exactly that! A highlights tape! A tape of a guy who was receiving the ball and kicking to team mates.
  18. Which draft? 2010 or 11? The Cook one is an interesting point, but I think Neeld saw that we lacked height and muscle overall as a squad. Cook still has time. Well I don't know if you were posting here from 2007 onwards..(the year he was drafted). Do you understand that I am not 'potting' him? I just have an opinion about a player on our list that doesn't seem to sit well with biased one eyed supporters. I don't rate the guy at the moment as a player.
  19. Well actually Nashy, I was trying to remind others that Gary, Mark and Craig are striving to get this club to compete at the highest level in all areas. For every job. As they have said.... So keeping that in mind, one might find it interesting that Barry, (who has had the help of john Turnbull along the way) would 'quit' the club in January 2012. No I'm not implying that he was moved on, but it's food for thought. Do you have an opinion on the matter? Are you sad to see him go? Do you think we could find a better recruiter?
  20. Well I guess we'll see whether or not he was worth pick 4 in the coming years.... Or maybe the same people will be using the 'he has a problem putting on weight' excuse for the rest of his career. I can't see him ever becoming the player people continue to think he will become today. But I as a supporter and member of the team he plays for, I am happy to be proven wrong. It's the same [censored] that goes round every year. Any player that is drafted to Melbourne, people seem to rate no matter how many games they've played etc. We need more realists on this forum.
  21. Just like with most of the football department, we are re-building and trying to get the highest quality personnel for each job at the club. Whilst Barry wasn't terrible in his recruiting, we also could have done a lot better. Who knows whether or not he was asked to move on or he did infact resign. I have full trust in Neeld and Craig.
  22. This is what I mean.... You have shown me a clip of a guy who is constantly fed the ball from congestion and he kicks to team mates. I'm sorry, but anyone playing state footy at that level should be able to do that. At number 4 in a draft, you would think a player would posses a few more attributes. 'Finding space'... Anyone can find space if you tell them to and if they are playing a particular role. You can't prove that he can play from watching that video. Taggart and Tynan's highlights reel are just as good, yet they went 40 + picks later than Morton. And where is the goose that said Morton had the potential to be the best player in the league? There is no room for guys like him on our list if he continues to play the way he does.
  23. If you're talking marathon runner then one needs to ask, why was he picked at number 4 in an AFL draft to play football? What attributes does he have? Non-physiological ones so don't use 'height' as one. I am so interested in why people rate him.
  24. The only way someone slows down/loses speed is by doing no running at all whilst building muscle through weight lifting. It's an urban myth that one slows down by gaining muscle mass. Cale is running just as much as everyone else.
  25. My gut feeling is Green to keep captaincy for maybe one or two more years , (as much as I don't rate him as a captain). Trengove in the leadership group. His time will come and it won't be long.
