A historic morning indeed... this from the official MFC site. "LESS THAN one day after being vacated by Collingwood, Gosch's Paddock will become Melbourne's main training ground on Friday. The Demons will t ake to the ground, which was used almost exclusively by the Magpies, for their final training session ahead of Saturday's MCG clash with West Coast."

When you arrive at the recreational land south of Swan street tomorrow morning, take a few seconds to look out on the fenced off oval adjacent to Punt Road known as Gosch's Paddock. Be aware that it was Charles La Trobe (lieutenant-governor) who in 1839 showed great foresight in reserving this land for recreational purposes. The first game of Australian football was played in the Richmond Paddock, on the other side of the railway line to the north, in 1858. A year later Wills and Harrison drew up the first rules for our game in the Parade Hotel (now the MCG Hotel), which is just a short walk up the hill from the Paddock. This was only a few days after the Melbourne Football Club had been formed. So there you have it... Our great club predates the rules of the game under which we compete. Need I say anymore about our right to be here and our purpose in supporting the young men who now wear our colours? FIRST & FOREVER!

I thought this quote from Dr Who over at 'Ology very relevant to what were trying to achieve on Friday morning. It comes from the thread about the volunteer membership drive. (the underlining and bold text are mine) "Go Dees First & Forever Just for the record this membership drive programme really opens your eyes to the real MFC. We have had ex-players (Stevie Powell) at our nights, Mark Neeld & Neil Craig. CS popped in and I got the chance to have a chat with him. You read so much rubbish about our club in the media - please sorry to take a Molly Meldrum quote - but "do yourself a favor" come and see the real MFC."
