  1. Jones has some weaknesses, but comes with a massive upside. He lacks in the pace department and is average with kicking penetration. However, he bleeds for the Red & Blue, is dogged and genuinely tough. he has leadership qualities in his own modest way. He will work his way through most of the challenges faced and will likely be a 200 gamer for the club.
  2. He could easily get a game with most teams bar Geelong and probably Hawthorn. ne1 who thinks Green couldn't get a game with Hawks or Cats loses respect immediately, both teams would be happy to slot another running, marking, goal-kicking, target-hitting, courageous player to their list. How good would Green be with the support that the Premiership favourites could provide? It would be Alves to North, Wells to Blues, Healy to Swans all over again! I was bought up with the 'don't give a mug an even break' philosophy. Appoint him captain, tell the others to bugger off and watch the final few chapters of a Demon great unfold! With our baby list... let's keep a few shining lights over 25 around the place to lead the way.
  3. Has weapons! Pace, long kick and strong upper body. Already one of our best running options. Room for improvement, has grown in confidence, seems to know he belongs.
  4. I think you will find that Templeton was quite a bit better than Johns!!!!!!!
  5. 1. C.Morton 2. Jones 3. Wonaeamirri 4. Bate 5. Martin 6. Garland 7. Bartram 8. Buckley 9. Dunn 10. Petterd 11. Newton 12 Frawley 13. Bode
  6. Bartram - some poor decisions Bate - poor first half Bell - tried but panics Bruce - some nice touches Buckley - broke the lines Davey - patches of brilliance Dunn - mis-match on Pav Garland - plenty to like Jamar - excellent ruck contests C. Johnson - outside running player P. Johnson - some deft touches Jones - a poor game Martin - plenty to like Miller - our best player Morton - poor under pressure Newton - 5 minute performance Sylvia - junk time possessions Warnock - very good spoils Wheatley - good until injured Whelan - dogged and cool Valenti - gave some drive Wonaeamirri- not best effort
  7. Magic... The great majority of MFC supporters recognise Cam's wonderful contribution to this club over a sustained period in our modern history. I am like many who recognise his unique skills and his consistent excellence. I want to see him in the Red & Blue when we rise up to another premiership campaign. I think you will find most Demon supporters feel the same as I do. No need to defend him against a few mavericks who parade on these boards with dillusions about their importance. Bruce will survive the misguided barbs directed at him and establish himself as one of the best players this club has seen in its modern era.
  8. Robbie-esque in sideways movement and elusiveness in traffic, but can't nail a set shot to save himself... Big upside though!

  10. I'll have what Hannabal is having!
  11. Jones... Trade bait... Now I've heard it all! The contributors to this thread are obviously younger than No.2... Jones has some limitations but fortunately, like the posters here, he has time to develop. The upside is massive... trade bait, OH YEAH!!!!! (Col Lane inflection required to exhibit full meaning)
  12. I'm in New York with a group on a Broadway Tour, which is my field. Its a great place to be! Everyday I log on to Demonland and Demonology to get my fix. Very positive stuff these days... I will be home for our next game. Cheers, and keep up the fine work you all are doin' to ensure our supporters get the latest... no matter where they roam.
  13. Hi All, In new York at the moment and just wanted to thank everybody who contributes to Demonland and Demonology for keeping me up to date on everything about our magnificent win over the Lions. Cheers
  14. Buckley, Dunstan and Lyon have a tad too much of the smugs for my liking. The Ox is down to earth and I have enjoyed his rise and rise post football. I like a lot of the individuals and teams on SEN and The Ox ranks high on my list because I admire him. There have always been a mixture of flavours in the footy press. I go back to Charlton, Dyer, Richards, Bietzal (spelling?), Davis, Casey, Williamson and a few of the ABC boys whose names escape me. There have always been clowns (Richards) and less educated formers (Dyer). I prefer to listen to ex-players, and I particularly enjoy listening to ex-MFC players because we haven't had many over the distance. The Ox stocks are on the rise... good luck to him... You can always listen to Rex if you can't stomach my boy!
  15. Allan Jeans puts it this way... "How many premierships did Hawthorn win without Ablett and how many premierships did Geelong win with Ablett". Sums it up for me!
  16. My daughter was proudly waving hers in the midst of the Tiger contingent every time the Dees scored a goal.
  17. My three kids and I got there at 9.40am, after parking at the "G" and then walking. Pretty soon summed up that breakfast would take quite a while to dispense without the help of JC. Kids and I hit McDonalds and $20 later got back to lap up the guest speakers. Guy, Robbie and Neita did us proud, the video footage was inspiring and Chris Connolly gave a short but brilliantly positive rev up at around 11.00am. The Yoda seemed cool, calm and collected and stated confidently that the lads were ready (a claim that was bourne out 2 & 1/2 hours later!). The walk was fun... and impressive looking back as we crossed the walkway bridges. Got back to the "G" in time to grab good seats and pump up the footy for half-time. Enjoyed the roll out of walking legends and the guard of honour as the team took the field. Happy with the endeavour of our boys and look forward to the next 150 years!!!
  18. Watched son play for Balwyn Tigers... then made way to MCG for second half... All car parks closed (go figure!!!). Parked near Richmond Station, got in to witness Demons put up best four quarter effort of year. Haven't watched first half yet so my comments are not tainted by any performances in first half. Bruce played well in third, Wonna continues to show unique awareness, Melbourne looked better when PJ in centre square, Jones, Bate, Garland very satisfying youngsters, Miller quiet, our Morton has the Robbie moves (baulk, take time, exceelent decision making, finds a mate by foot), Brock is still a good guy, Moloney was impressive in third, I love Davey (say no more!), Only once while I was watching did handball get us into the sort of trouble that has been an epidemic in early rounds (when Brock got caught with the pill in the last Q)... UMPIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They systematically changed the rules of the game by not honouring the 'caught with the ball after prior opportunity, rule. Hawthorn, in particular Mitchell, benefitted most from this flacid performance! (we did get away with a few!).
  19. I like Carroll but it isn't good for anyone to feel like a fixture in an under-performing team. Nathan can now show us what he is made of. He goes back to Sandy, plays good footy for them and returns better for the experience OR he fades back into the category of fringe player that some here have always considered him to be. I think more of him than that... and what about Judy? What an opportunity. Will he get a drubbing or will he justify the coach's faith. So far I have noticed that he has pace, can take a grab and has attacking handball skills (a rare commodity in this group). Mind you, he shows all of the above in small doses. If he can show them regularly for four quarters for 20 games a year we have a full-back!
  20. Just heard the tail end of a sports report on FM radio. One of the Daveys hurt a knee at training tonight. I think they said Aaron. There was speculation that he might need a knee re-construction. Please don't let it be true!!!!
  21. My son plays for Balwyn Tigers and he reckons Joel Cunningham should be getting a game before Nick Smith... Oh, by the way, my son plays U/13's and so does Joel! I'm going to watch the seniors play at my next opportunity, sounds like we have got a good team going round.
  22. How rule changes, new interpretations and the umpiring fraternity have driven our game in the wrong direction. There was a time when the player who had eyes for the ball and the courage to go and get it was revered in VFL/AFL ranks. At one stage it was decided that this type of player should be protected. A new interpretation was introduced whereby the third player in to the stoppage was penalised if he simply crashed-in and jumped on the player who had already been taken to ground. This resulted in a new approach to penalise a player who simply jumped on the loose ball and held it in to create a stoppage. The tackler was required to hold his jumper and put one hand in the air. This would frequently result in a holding the ball decision to the player who ‘claimed’ the bloke who was making no attempt to make the play. This seemed to work well for a few years. Then a new interpretation came into being. If the player who took possession was trapped on the ground by the tackler he had to make some acceptable effort to push the ball out or hit it clear. All of a sudden any number of tacklers could jump on the poor unfortunate who made the ball his objective. The main aim was to hold the ball in so that the fools in white/yellow/green/red etc. would be driven to make that ridiculously theatrical downward sweeping motion of both arms to signal BALL!!!! The ball player suddenly became the victim of stacks-on-the-mill tactics which often include members of his own team. I challenge any member of the current central umpiring panel to try this move at training. Take possession of a football at ground level, allow three or more of your mates to wrap you up in a cacoon-like grip and then try to push the ball out from under the heap. If you succeed, try doing it with your head held in a vice like grip by your colleague’s knees while another mate places one of his knees squarely on your central spine. You may like to heighten the absurdity of the activity by having a weedy little prima donna call out “knock it clear, knock it clear” whilst running backwards in a moronic arc around the focal point. This is chapter one in the series ‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ Other chapters include… The Hands In The Back Rule The Chopping Of Arms Rule The Take Front Position In The Ruck Rule The Kick It In Before The Umpire Waves The Flags Rule The Extended Interchange Rule The Jumping Too High At The Central Bounce Rule The 50 Metres For Anticipating That The Marker Was Playing-On Rule The Zero Tolerance For Noting In The Vernacular That The Ump Had Made A Mistake Rule The Sydney Must Have Barry Play The Grand Final Rule (not leaping Leo) And more!!!!!!
  23. Tackles too ferociously, would give away too many frees as a pure tagger. I like Col because of the aggression. He can do most things required at this level. He has marking ability, he is not slow, he is strong, he can kick. He does not seem to be high IQ, but he's not Robinson Crusoe there in AFL ranks. If he can learn to manage his aggression and direct it at the main objective... Win the ball... Play the %'s... Team above all, he is a worthy rep in our best 22.
