about time
-
At least hunt tried to win it for us he just doesn’t have the tools better to try and fail than to not try at all
-
It’s like our team is the only one with “niggles”.
-
No I haven't because he is an option at wing and petty is performing in the backline
-
it will be interesting to see who plays wing at Casey between Baker, Rosman and DeClase. It may indicate DeClase is more a cover in defense than a wing option given Tomlinson, Langdon, Brayshaw etc as well as Baker and Rosman. If however DeClase plays wing it might indicate a lack of confidence in Baker / Rosman as backups for Langdon, Brayshaw

I think Bedford is cover for Messiah and Spartacus

Nathan Buckley Steps Down as Collingwood Coach
dino rover replied to roy11's topic in Melbourne Demons
Perhaps we should be more worried if Troy Chaplin stepped down based on what Gawn, Brayshaw and TMac said to the press after the Brisbane game? He is credited over the last 4 years as having banged on about defence as the ball moves from our forward to defense areas. That pressure contributes significantly to our interceptions in defence as the ball comes in under pressure without good direction. Players have said basically that they are finally "getting" what Chaplin has been saying. See 2:44 below and the question from Lloyd referencing Troy... -
Our defence gets interceptions because of fwd mid pressure which isn’t there tonight fix that

I agree that both Feds and States should have built purpose built quarantine facilities by now however its more than just the building that needs to be thought through. The logistics of feeding, securing /guarding, testing, and otherwise caring for the quarantined in an isolated dedicated quarantine facility is significant. As I understand it from a resident at the Howard Springs site, staff live on site. If we want staff who are dedicated to the one facility to avoid cross contamination from the quarantine site to some other place (such as happened in Victoria) you are looking at a workforce that is only working the one job and the one site for an extended period. Then there is the transport of people from airports to the quarantine site. I'm not saying this isn't doable but I am saying it isn't easy. The Federal Government doesn't employ health care workers like the States but has the Federal Police and Army (for guarding purposes) to do this without State Territory involvement is challenging. There are also very limited number of Federal sites that are suitable as discussed below. The idea of using "disused army barracks" I think is problematic. Firstly because we want individuals isolated whereas army barracks congregate them. Secondly in use army barracks wouldn't meet community standards for accommodation for a fortnight (my son just did Kapooka basic infantry training https://www.army.gov.au/our-life/training/army-recruit-training-centre-kapooka) - disused army barracks would be of a lower standard of repair and amenity.

Rabid dogs?

Saw him pretty often at the Half Moon hotel in Brighton so not surprised he ended up at Old Brightonians. I wish him well.

I didn't say we have problems across all lines... "Overall though with an upgrade on Hunt our defence is good enough. " "but overall midfield we are strong. Another winger is all I want. "
-
"and we have problems across all lines" Actually I said our midfield and defence was good but id like an upgrade on Hunt and Brayshaw.

Hyperbole - what I said was can we win the GF - nice straw man.

The loss to Adelaide highlighted deficiencies we have over those teams realistically in the hunt for a Premiership. I am trying to be measured here and some of this can be overcome but here is why we wont win a GF soon. Key Forwards TMac, BB and SW - there isnt anyone in that list comparable to Jeremy Cameron, Tom Lynch, Harry McKay, Tomahawk, Jack Riewoldt, Jack Darling, Josh Kennedy - could go on. Maybe SW will fulfil his promise - but that promise is getting on now. - BB just looks slow to me - TMac gets the best out of his 194cm but at that height we have modern midfielders - modern power forwards are 200cm. Midfield Gawn, Oliver, Trac, Langdon, Viney, Jackson - what is missing is another wing - I'm unconvinced by Brayshaw / Baker as anything more than a stopgap - but overall midfield we are strong. Another winger is all I want. Backs Our strength this year - our system and skills are excellent, Salem, Lever, May, Rivers, Petty, Tomlinson but not Hunt who is a one trick pony - his tackling pressure is ineffectual, his kicking unreliable. I worry that we don't have the height and bulk to take on the bigger key forwards - May uses his 100kg very well but at 193cm he isn't that big. Maybe Petty for the future but that lack of the big defender is a worry. Overall though with an upgrade on Hunt our defence is good enough. I'm not saying we wont be competitive or our list cant progress. Certainly our current level of performance means key forwards, a winger and a rebounding small defender are more likely to be attracted to us. Can we win a GF with our current list?

Its not going to happen. Nimbyism is alive and well in my neighbourhood. It would be good in terms supporters - fair number of Melb fans in the neighbourhood who were once well served when we were with Sandy at the Trevor Barker Reserve. Salem, Brayshaw Hunt Petracca and others have connections to the neighbourhood. Gawny played for Ormond I think. With what Gawn said about Casey being a better replica of the G think everything old is new again and Casey is back in favour.

Alright I guess so - just reassure me it was chest not breast milk
-
Quite right we wouldn't want the players going off the rails with their revelry. Id personally give up a milk rinse one percenter for a tackle, shepherd or smother.
-
Its a precious world where splashing players with Gatorade is okay but milk not okay. The Front Bar lampooned it last night going through an array of alternatives to milk. That isn't any recommendation - it was pretty lame but what's the issue - is milk a non renewable? Did we fail to recognise milk's history of oppression and dispossession? Is milk patriarchal? Teams start games now with a joke - is that stupidity? Should we lighten up and avoid full cream milk?

I must say I was tempted to play 3 talls. That is all of BB, Jacko and sw. But I got to thinking we want marks inside 50 and in Tmac and Fritz we do fine with Jackson and BB essentially (for now) supplements. The other reason apart from offence we win, is that our forwards are our first line of defence trapping the ball where we can score. For those reasons - not needing additional marking power and needing to sustain our defensive forward energies we can’t have 3 talls. I prefer BB to SW - his hands are better- both are light on for defensive acts. therefore jacko for weid Chandler to stay given a chance to show his Defensive forward metal

I think Viney loves to play in Adelaide - agreed - return of a native son and all? Has he played well there recently?

I'm on board - he was guilty until proven innocent - by a magistrate. An ABC producer is now accused of putting some mayo on the accusations as in "tell it like this it sounds more deplorable". The me-too movement did good in highlighting crimes against woman but the notion that belief in the veracity of an account trumps the presumption of innocence is wrong. As a Dinosaur I get uncomfortable with public displays of emotion such as Craig's. He is in the theatre and he is also suing for defamation which tempers my trust in his account. But the arguments were made in court and found in his favour and I dont doubt that the PC world of the ABC and theatre will have condemned him without trial.

44 hit outs to 23 and we still lost the clearances / 19 possessions he looked fine to me
