Trying to win a dick-measuring contest, I guess. The more of something, the better. Actually I grew out of rapid posting on 'ology a few years ago when I evolved from a overly-enthusiastic teen to a pretentious [censored]. But boys will be boys.

Eh. It didn't really mean much, other than posting just to get my numbers up and enter the top 15 or 20 "most frequent" list. This place does the same thing but with updated software. Except I'll post here much less now I don't have that motivation, as I'm not the most educated / observant on football matters and would rather read good insight then try and manufacture some.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

Yeah, annoying. I'm still looking for #39 for Country (Stringer). He mustn't be playing? Wines is #33? -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

He's playing with #28 on his back. -
Huh? Wellingham is a bit-part player, albeit a handy one. If pick 13 were to be traded, I would swoop on Boak from a team of misfits ahead of a guy that looks good because of playing under a well-oiled machine.
-
He's winning ball and using it cleverly from behind the contest. Work to his strengths. They don't belong inside attacking 50.
-
I like Boak - he contributes to winning games. I like Cloke more - he wins games. We shouldn't compromise our chances of getting a potential game-breaker in Jake Stringer (?) just to snag another decent run-of-the-mill midfielder. They grow on trees. Howe was pick 30-something and Magner came through the rookie draft. I would not step over high draft picks in a very valuable round one selection pool for Beams or Boak.
-
There's less and less value in Cameron shares now but I'd be buying in after watching him live. The supply inside 50 was rubbish when it wasn't nonexistent; yet, he kicked 3 from 3 brilliant marks. I'll take a couple of Dylan Shiel types too.

I miss the old TAB outlet, bunkered away beneath the red seats at the 'G. It was white and untidy; and it stank of rotten farts and cigarettes butts drowning in the frothy remains of a beer glass. My Poppa and I won a few bucks on Falvelon from memory, watching the race at three-quarter time - being a footy season it was probably the Stradbroke or Doomben 10,000 I was watching. I went out on a limb and backed Coco Cobanna (?) in a Derby or Oaks as well. Those were the days.

On the opposition, I'm very interested in Myke Cook.

They have trained horses to race for endurance in the UK / Ireland for hundreds of years. That such a large organisation like Coolmore didn't thoroughly profile the horse they were acquiring beforehand is just embarrassing. Breeders' Cup Classic and Dubai World Cup attempts are a prime example of the way big business in the industry robs us of horses properly exercising their reputation. For insance, you will never see Camelot running into Frankel for the rest of his career, despite the Juddmonte International being an ideal target for the Derby winner.

Great point and I think that gets forgotten as we start to overcomplicate things. You either got it, or you don't. I get that big KPPs will "come good" as they fill out but it's not an excuse for not playing to potential from day dot. The same idea applies to middle-distance / long-distance racehorses. No horse will ever amount to anything good at 2400m if he is dogging it in a 1200m maiden at Horsham on debut. Ability knows no bounds.

Yeah. Don't get me wrong - in September I would've been game to take a crowbar to his knee and finish the germ for good. Nine months on, it just feels like a petty excuse for sour grapes. And even so ... why? He was contracted for 2 years and played far less; of those thirty-something games he starred in one I can recall (39 touches vs. Bulldogs). He wasn't a fan favourite or a cult figure and didn't seem like the amiable type. So, as a player he was one under par through 18 holes and as a public figure he simply existed. Boo the $cumbag? BFD.

GWS ain't the enemy. I think it was an inspired move to house a franchise in a booming region of the country, thriving with new citizens. I don't hate the Giants. They'll go good. Pity for them is that we will always be better.

Who the eff cares about the Viney thing? He's a top three player in that draft regardless. Stop being influenced by the media, folks. Think for yourself. And as for Sunday - just beat them and bleed them. Then we move on to next week.

(H's over-reaction to said lame attempt at humour in Patton thread.) Exhibit A.

Unless I am clearly mistaken, you sound like you have a hard-on for 'ology. The place is dead, and we're here now. Get over it.
-
My memory's blurry on this - was Ron organizing a ticket to challenge the board of the time? You can imagine him quietly weeping right now, without someone to engage his opinion and question it, as opposed to straight-up taunting.

I will donate as well if funds are needed. The two forums have their role to play for us supporters. Demonland is undeniably HQ - it bursts with information and opinion on all matters Melbourne. I find myself stopping by from time to time when the action gets quiet on 'ology (and so do the media, it seems). But 'ology ... I referred to it as the Melbourne Club a few pages back because it just feels like a club. It's a unique environment with a relaxed atmosphere filled with some extraordinary characters who act like oafs and engage in some ridiculous (but also entertaining and illuminating) cyber duels. It's a charming place. It's barely functionable, with no signatures and what seems like decade-old software. Give it back to us, someone?!

Can we do this thing Invasion-style like Chook suggested?

You want to see tough when a player rides a hard bump and wrestles his way through a gauntlet of opponents to dish off to a team-mate. You want to see brave when a player runs back with the flight of the ball to compete in a marking contest. You want to see arrogance and unsociable football (hooliganism) when a player drives his knee into a felled opponent as the sweetener, or rips a jumper to shreds, or stands over an opponent as he tries to get up again. One. Get your definitions right and respect which is which. Two. No great Premiership teams of the past have existed without being seen as a pack of Cs. Leigh Matthews coached the best of them FCS. If you want to stand by the adage of "a nice, fair game", then good luck when the dirty pricks in the top four mop the floor with ya.

And a big congratulations to all who "cheered" him off the ground after it. I didn't know we had so many high-school twats in the MCC. Did you guys rush to your phones and type "SPUD" into your Facebook status? Give me a spell ...

Far too easy for the simpleton supporter to pick up on that clanger 4 minutes in to the third and let rip. I saw numerous "1%ers" and "pressure acts" where he was willing to put his 42 kg frame in and take the game on. You saw that clanger - which Little Jonny No-Brains could have picked up on - and now claim to be a f*ing expert on his future. The kid won't justify pick 4 and pretty much everyone concedes on that. But he can amount to being a "good ordinary player" and he's trying hard to be that player.
