strange player.. not too much said about him really. considering he's been thought to go top ten all year, not many talk him up.

I guess that's my point - from all reports, there are safer bets available at pick 8. No doubt that kid would be great right now - but there's a real danger in following the latest trend IMO - football changes quickly, and most kids take a long time to develop - this goes without saying. History shows that plenty of clubs have been burned badly by prioritizing perceived needs over talent. At this point, the Jack Higgins type is just as likely to be the next Addam Maric.
Not so much treating playing positions differently as draft picks. Take the surest thing at 3 and 8. If 2 kids are equally rated but only one fills a need, flip a coin - and then take the more highly rated one. By all means get creative and cover immediate needs from the state leagues later in the draft.
I agree that AA selection is generally a poor criterion, and many good players (especially non-midfielders) miss out - but it's useful to highlight that there are potentially a few 18 YO future gun small forwards running around that are currently unknown by us youtube experts.
and who might the next 'brodie grundy' be? look, i don't think there is a small forward worth taking really.. at least in the first round. so, we would be better off going young at 3 and dylan stephens at 8 (if avail.). not jackson.

if there was a jack higgins type, i'd take him for pick 8.. a kid with passion, speed and dare would be awesome
-
manic. love it. we might still end up with him just cos we need a small forward in his mould so desperately (whether thats with 8, or 8 split into a few other picks)

Gould is only quick in a straight line. His agility is average. At 106kgs, he’s able to run through tackles from kids 30kg lighter than him. At afl level, he’ll no longer have a size advantage and will get brought down instead. He’d need to lose 10-15kgs so he’s able to cover the required ground too. He’s not a bad footballer, but he doesn’t possess enough elite attributes to be pick 3 or 8. Draft best available, and he’s not it.
Still hoping for Young at 3 and Stephens or Kemp at 8.
a bit like that man-child, kieran collins, that the dogs drafted in 2014/5? i think they delisted him this year.. he looked like an adult against kids in his highlights packages.. but just couldn't cut it in the afl.

Ben Keays might be worth discussing. Had a great 2018 but behind Charlie Cameron. Now available after Lions delisting.
they delisted him!? wow

i like young at 3, and kemp, stephens or weightman at 8. although young seems a bit vanilla, he’s class. hard to ignore. kemp and stephens highlights look salivating. for some reason i feel like weightman would be a good fit.. driven, aggressive and quick between the ears.

needs more bastard in him. just not a scrapper. like, for instance, jetta is.....and dare i say it, frost.

i'd just like to remind everyone that although we have traded away our picks for next year... we will also be most probably trading out players that no longer fit into our structure moving forward (whether that be a petracca, brayshaw, hunt, salem, etc..). we will find picks next year, don't worry.

We don't have to use a first round pick this year. We just have to use at least one in the next 2 years as it's a rolling 4 year period.
ugh! i thought this was all confirmed prior to the trade period. so freaking confusing. ok whatever. what a messed up system. just keep it simple afl! way to alienate the fans.. surely the rule is to reduce the examples of clubs not having an up and coming players (like us currently), by insisting that clubs must utilise first round picks.. 2015 was a lifetime ago!
-
for anyone saying pick 3 for king... we need to use a first rounder this year. gahhhh

about time for a poll isn't it mods? to split, or not to split....that is the question.

9 and mckay.

so if the structure is set, does that mean that we already have our 'assistant' to goodwin? or, that they have decided on the structure and that there still might be new staff? confusing language..

this is the jamie elliott thread yeah?

Oh, I figured as he is a Lorne boy that there is a media 'go home factor' (tm) which is Geelong, you know because, it's their backyard and etc etc yadda yadda yadda....

only if he incorporates the power stance into every round and a spiced up version for finals (if we ever make them again)

On the Road To The Draft Podcast this week, they said Weightman could go between 10-20. So he has been moving up the draft order. I would also like to know which news said we were looking at him yesterday too, I couldn’t find any mention. I think he is exactly what we need though. Please don’t draft another inside mid!
yeah i heard that podcast.. but surely a club is taking him before a tall that may not work out around the 10-15 range. he looks pretty good to go. we shall see, but seriously doubt the club would take him at 3 if we kept that, i reckon ash would be more of a chance

Fantasy trade/draft pick wish list V2, if Laird is not on the trade table.
If P2: draft Anderson, Langdon (trading 2nd round), Tomlinson, Elliot:
If P3: split picks, draft Stephens and Weightman, the rest as above.
and if this rumour is true that we're after weightman (should we get pick 3 & split the pick with gws) what happens if he isn't there? we get stephens (a runner) and what other small forward type i wonder? there's a few options, but all not worth splitting the pick in my opinon. they'd better be damn sure that the first 13 or so clubs with picks don't want weightman either.
-
every scenario disgusts me. i want to keep our first pick, not split it for two meh players.. much rather bank on a player like ash/young than two other kids. i sense this being our most frustrating trade period for half a decade. ugh.

back. hard at it and adds a bit of x factor which we need there now frost is gone.. also, i admire how he flies for his marks and doesn't care who's behind him. its definitely a make or break year for him either way.
