Feel like I am the only person who doesn't like Hogan, never really warmed to his attitude on field

have you flicked through this thread at all?! it overwhelmingly feels like the majority on here dislike jesse due to his 'lack of passion', chase, blah blah blergh....

surely a poll is needed. something like, 'if jesse is happy to stay at mfc on a new long-term contract, are you?'. the fact i had a dream last night where i met him for a beer to say it'd all be ok and it was t too late to stay, obvs shows where my vote would go.

    also, polls solve everything.

All true and good analysis.  But we are now flag contenders and we don't want to trade Hogan for talented 18 year olds. We need solid best 22 ready to go.

That's why I think May offers appropriate value with say pick 10 if we get that in the deal.

Probably good for the Suns too.  If they want a fresh cultural start they need him out so they can move forward and there's no complete guarantee they will get band 1 at the end of 2019.

My first preference is for something like Andrew Brayshaw  (we're not getting Cerra) and May (with pick 10) for Hogan.

as i've said before.. is andrew brayshaw ready to go?! where would he fit into our best 22?  discounting his brotherly scraps earlier in the year, what do you you know about him?.. i know he's not an outside runner. he was playing for a crap team and getting games, but you have to realise he would end up at casey, behind his brother, viney, harmes, oliver, etc...?

if his name was 'andrew smith', i bet he'd not even be in the conversation re: hogan trade.

He is their Captain. He has not yet formally requested a trade and there is still a possibility he may remain at the Suns.

In fact if anything the Suns are in a stronger position with May than we are with Hogan. Like Hogan he is contracted for 2019 and if a suitor doesn’t come up with a decent pick for him they can hold him to contract and collect top level compensation for him from the AFL at the end of next season. The Suns are a monty for bottom four again so Band1 compo will guarantee them a top 5 pick for May.

Sure they’re probably going to prefer to offload him now, but if Melbourne or Collingwood or Essendon lowball them with a sh.itty pick in trade watch them say thanks but no thanks, play hardball and keep him on their list.

Anyone who thinks he’s going to come cheap are kidding themselves.

what so you think if he stays with the suns next year may will remain captain? kid you're a dreamer.. no way. you lose that once you put yourself out there to other clubs.. yes, they can insist he stays if they don't get what they want pick-wise, but do they really want a bloke who has sat down and met with three other clubs to be 'leading them' (their defence, leadership group, etc)? don't think so!

if you cannot see that we're in a stronger position with jesse than the suns are with may, i'm sorry, i can't help you.

i never said may would come cheap, but we should not be resigned to giving up a high first rounder for him.. surely potentially getting kelly would be priority over him.. surely!

Frost has been good this year and played well to his strengths as well described in tecent posts.  But his other weakness on display particularly in the last two finals was aerial - he misjudged and drpped crucial marks.

I think OMac's strength issues will be more easily overcome.  He is on a curve of improvement

how about oscar's unwillingness to be physical? apart from that one tackle on darling, i haven't seen any physicality whatsoever, and additionally he seems to lack urgency when the ball is on the ground or he misjudges it and it flies past him.. its like his boots are full of cement. i have come to admire his coolness with ball in hand, but the above failings will be his undoing. he just doesn't have that 'killer instinct' that a defender needs.

Of course May’s arrival and Hogan’s departure is not a net gain to us in isolation. That’s why we will be demanding two first round picks for him.

But there’s a significant difference in value between draft picks 5-10 and picks 14-18. The Suns are not giving up their captain, a sought after fullback with at least three Vic clubs chasing his signature, for anything less than pick 10.

the thing is he ISNT their captain.. not now. he's shown his hand. why would they want a bloke not giving his all and on board? they have little currency now.. different to hogan situation - we would love him to stay, but will accept an amazing deal to release him.

Is it too early for one of those Phantom Drafts and is there one around that goes as far as the second and third rounds where the MFC choices are going to be?

past first round yes.. but hell what else we got to do?! lol

Not sure why this guy isn’t generating more discussion? Word is we are into Shiel up to our ears and will be right up the front of the bus for his signature if the right cards fall our way (especially if Hogan goes).

Exactly what we need. Blistering outside run and link up midfielder with good skills and a bit of healthy arrogance to boot.

Would love to see him in red and blue.

'a bit' of arrogance?!... geez. he comes across as a real [censored] to me! don't want to see him in red & blue.. much rather kelly.

Absolutely. I just found it interesting, unsure if that’s common or not.

true, true.. wonder why it was leaked. surely it's pretty common. geez if i had to do an interview with the herald sun i'd want to be paid for my time! ugh..

  9. Say we do trade Hogan to Freo, who would Jason Taylor & the recruiting staff be eyeing off around pick 6/7?

Personally, i don't think they take either of the King boys and a lot of the other kids reported to be around that point are from WA and SA..

Surely they'd be after some outside speed or a halfback-type for our midfield..especially if we manage to land Preuss and May.

To be honest, I think Cerra looks a lot better than Andrew brayshaw.

i agree.. its like everyone thinks that andrew brayshaw is angus brayshaw. they aren't the same player. not sure why everyone keeps referring to him?! they are brothers yes. it'd be nice if they got to play together. but surely we'd be after the best player from freo.. and that would be cerra.

    In Preuss, Hogan, Lever, Fritsch

    Out Smith, Tyson, Weed, Lewis

i like it..but i think lewis serves an important function with stability downback. not his biggest fan, but he has really good games and goes missing in others. think the club will still put him in best 22 anyway. love the weed. hopefully if he gets more consistenty (like late in the year) he will cause selectors problems... might be a battle between him and preuss. still not completely sold on preuss. seen him do amazing stuff, but could just be a big oaf runnin around not doing much. anyway, depthhhhh. and good for the pies and eagles games. liking smith and tyson out though.
