Looking forward to the Free Agency & Trade Period

Oh a WERRIDEE team line up thread... -
I'm glad you brought this up Col, because that's exactly my point. He just looks far too slow for me this year and I just feel we're just carrying him along in our side. I'm also not sure what his role is down back besides wanting to hog all the kick outs every time opposition kicks a behind. Going into next year we simply cannot afford to have Vince and Lewis in our back 50. Once the opposition slingshot from half back, these 2 get shown out big time! For me Lewis stays on the basis that he's just an all around better player and provides quality leadership. Not saying Vince doesn't, but to me Lewis is the stand out leader we brought into our club.

No.. shouldn't have even gotten a contract this year.

Viney, Garlett and Tim Smith are 3 names that will be right on top of the selection committee's list this week. Viney would be the obvious choice, but the issue is, who for? While Spargs 2 goals were handy, he did look a bit tired throughout the game and maybe the limited pre season is starting to catch up to him. This could potentially be a swap for swap spot as Viney could spend a lot of minutes up forward with bursts through the midfield. The in form Brayshaw Harmes and Oliver are doing the job just fine in there. Some are saying Dom Tyson, but I think hes been played out of position and its exposing his lack of pace and spread. His best is when hes an inside midfielder with his close hands in tight. I still feel Garlett is in our best 22.. I wish ANB played another stinker because even with his 2 goals and 20 plus disposal, i still wasn't satisfied. Hes another who could come in for Spargo I feel. Weideman is an interesting one.. I dont think he will be dropped as I believe hes playing his role and releasing Hogan and McDonald up forward. I'm also in the camp that we get as much games into him as possible, because like Omac, it'll click one day and hell starting clunking those Mark's and hitting the scoreboard more regularly! I also believe Gawns form the last couple of weeks has to come down to the work of Weideman being able to compete in the ruck and release big Maxy up forward.. but you also cannot ignore Tim Smith form in the VFL! Hes absolutely banging down the door at Casey and could provide a whole different dynamic in the forward line with his intense tackling and pressure for such a big bloke. I wouldn't mind seeing Goody giving Smith a good 4 week stretch to see what they dynamic could be and see if he's up to it? Sometimes you got no other choice but to pick someone who's in Reich vein of form in the VFL.

Ordinary tackler? What game were you watching? The last 2 weeks hes laid some really bone jarring tackles in the middle and around the ground. Ordinary? So far from it..

Interesting St Kilda have gone in with 2 ruckman who are both over 200cm tall. They have a pretty experienced and tall backline, so our forwards need to be really switched on from the get go. Feel like this would have been the perfect game for jeffy.. Armitage coming in gives them more experience and a hard body around the contest. Think this will be a closer game then many people think.

St kilda will try and take a lot out of Norths win last night.. We have to be on our guard big time and be ready and switched on right from the start!.

Or he was probably feeling the effects of a 5 day turn around and that we forget that he's still only 20 years old....

I know he is out of form, but Jeffy coming back into the side would make us an even better side if that makes sense in a weird kind of way? ANB can make way for him. I just feel on a dry quick deck, Garlett has the potential to kick your 3-4 goals from anywhere! -
I reckon Smith is a huge chance to play this week.

The Fillopovic reason is truly bizarre.. rest him for 2 works of not playing on the assumption that hes on a low base? Yet hes had a full pre season??
-
Agree, very vanilla type player for me..

For this year he'll most likely spend it all up forward. Next year I see him playing a forward midfield burst in the same vein as Caleb Daniel. His junior years were spent in the midfield and he was absolutely dominant back then. -
The big positive from today for me was Angus Brayshaw effort in the midfield.

Weideman just the 2 handball for the whole 2 qtrs.. Starting to believe he's bit of a bust..

This is getting old now.. they give you nothing. In your head it seems they do, but they don't.
-
Gawn? Anyone can dominate the hitouts against Nankervis, but Gawn was absolute shithouse with his hitouts always going down a tiger throat. I lost count the amount of times he and Martin made connection st the stoppages.
-
JKH has been a major disappointment.. last year he was a ball magnet and was dominating at VFL level. Now he can barely get a touch. Tim Smith is interesting.. named on the extended bench and then goes out and gets BOG. Will surely come into consideration next week .

Will be delisted at the end of the year.

Oh... no wonder I'm had no [censored] idea what he was rambling on in the other thread..

Absolutely stoked about this! I feel he is one that'll play better and more suited to the more quicker tempo of AFL rather then the VFL.. And just quickly, I've had a bit to do with young "Spargs" and I posted this back early January this year. Gday guys, on one of the training thread there's been a few doubts on young Charlie about his size and whether he can translate his ability to AFL level. Thought I'd bring this thread up and have my 2 cents worth. Just on Spargo, I had a bit to do with him when he was in the under 16s bushies . I didn't bother to write anything up on him when we drafted him (lack of interest in demonland at the time) but I thought I'd post my thought a on him now. Goody is going to fall in love coaching this young fella, he is 18 years old going onto 25 in terms of maturity and level headed. He was driven right from the very young age to succeed in footy and make AFL. He started playing senior footy for Albury in the strong Ovens and Murray league (step below VFL) at 16 and was still running rings around former AFL players with such ease. It was tipped right from then that this kid could potentially be the next big thing despite his size. He was quick, tough as F**k, and most importantly, driven and determined to make it. Despite being a quiet and down to earth sort of fella, he just oozes leadership on field! We played a praccy match against Bendigo once and he was captain for the day. The whole day he was barking orders, setting up midfield stoppages, encouraging teammtes, and giving direct feedback to coaching and senior officials on what was going right and wrong. He'll be in the leadership group in a couple of years. Mark my words. Obviously being in boarding school this year I barely got time to see any of his games (injured also). But we got word back from some recruiters that if it wasn't for injury he would be top 10 without a doubt. 3 clubs had even made mentioned that if he was just a smidge taller and injury free, they had penciled him for top 5. Every club rated him and the giants were absolutely filthy when they lost first rights to him. He is a genuine talent. If I was to compare him to someone in terms of toughness, leadership and skill? it would be Joel Selwood. He has everything that you need in terms of the culture you're trying to build and set. Yes I've pumped up his tyres, but the biggest test for him will be the transition to AFL level. The likes of Caleb Daniel and Eddie Betts have shown that it is possible if you've got the ticker and drive to succeed. I believe young Spargo has this. The likes of Jones, Viney, Oliver and Lewis will crave having this kid in the side running full tilt into packs and come out ball in hand. I don't want to put too much pressure on the kid but in my honest opinion, he is an absolute beauty! Hope that helps.- 607 replies
