TEAMS: Rd 23 vs Geelong
This was also you about Kozzie Pickett last year. Your judgement over the journey has been horrendous. Leave the footy chat to us big boys hey. Doesn't get the ball, doesn't kick goals. Didn't do it at U18 level either. Gives away frees, average skills, poor decision making. Some of that will improve obviously but he's not what you'd want from a high draft pick. Lol Pickett, does nothing but give away frees. Cant believe we've likely essentially paid more than pick 1 for him.

What's Pendles connection with Melbourne?

They had a few out that night. We were full strength.

Mitch Gorgiadias has pinged a hammy. Huge out for them.

Here come Port..

Doggies still look sluggish to me. Their forward line is a mess without Bruce.

Boaks had 21 disposal this first half..

Honestly reckon Port are a chance here. Clean up their goal kicking with better forward entries and I think they can beat the doggies.

Yeah look when i think of Paddy Dow I instantly think back to this article about Greg Williams when he worked with Carlton. https://www.sen.com.au/news/2020/09/07/blues-great-tells-young-midfielder-to-pull-his-finger-out-and-toughen-up/

My honest opinion I actually think they'll potentially use him to lock down on Jeremy Cameron potentially. I say this because he actually did the Job on him last year and kept him to 1 goal. By doing this again frees up Lever and May even more. The more I have thought about in the last few hours the more I'm slowly starting to understand this selection. Now does this also free up Petty as well to use his strength in being another intercept role? What you see with Hibberd is what you get. But I think Smith offers that flexibility to play on the smalls and also with the talls. Maybe they are happy with Rivers, Salem and Bowey as our run and carry? I think coming into finals the club may want to use Smith on a more lockdown role just because I think teams that we play in the final will put heavy work into the Lever/May combo.

Petty plays the lock down just fine?

Yeah can't say I agree with the team selections to be honest. Hope we are not playing with fire. Really thought Jordon would be still in and Sparrow out. Though Sparrow did have 7 tackles. Problem is also the imbalanced of the midfield. Dropping Jordon takes away outside spread where as now we are just too one dimensional with Viney back in. Backing Goody with this one but [censored] I'm extra nervous now.

No j agree. Just know the club rate Smith enormously and would be finding ways to fit him in.

Wonder if they'll pull a surprise selection? Dropping Hibberd for May instead of Joel Smith?

Don't know where to get that stat from.

Let's be honest, it's really a pipe dream anyway (it is for me..). Parker just strengthens our midfield to another level. Jacob Hopper would be someone I'd look at as well.

Well that's incorrect mate.. His kicking efficiency this year alone is higher then Petracca and Viney and on par with Oliver's. So realistically he becomes one our better ball users in the midfield. Currently averaging 27.8 disposal per game and has kicked 15 goals so far. So a goal kicking mid. Petracca has kicked 24 goals this year. Next best midfielder is Oliver with just 7. An All Australian mid and a 2 time best and fairest winner (won it in a year they played in a grand final mind you ).

I'm in the Luke Parker boat. We would be crazy if the club weren't at least having the discussion. Really think he's exactly what we need to bring something different to our midfield mix. Would bring experience, leadership and great standards on and off field. I'd rather my starting midfield as Petracca, Oliver and Parker, instead of Petracca, Oliver and Viney.

Was having this same debate with another Melbourne supporter friend of mine. My argument was that imo Tomlinson is now depth for me. Not only has Petty fitted in the role seamlessly, but his intercept marking and reach has really impressed me alongside his defensive work. With the consistency of games that Petty has been able to play now I expect this will only give him great confidence heading into next year. A bigger and more fitter Petty excites me. The other aspect is Tomlinson might not be ready to play come round 1? If we go off the 12 month recovery period then it's fair to say he'll miss first couple of rounds into next season and then have to go through VFL to push his claim once again. Good depth player to have though.

Not entirely sure Jason Taylor and co rated Stephens all that highly. I remember a podcast he did with Cal Twomey right before the 2019 draft and he reeled off a bunch of names that were in our sights such as Jackson, Green, Young, Serong, Ash, Kemp, Weightman and Pickett. Stephens wasn't mentioned nor was there really any talk of the Dees being interested at the time.
