  1. Now he can fly all the way back and suit up for Casey. I doubt him making back to best 22, but give the guy a chance to play good football maybe?
  2. Isn't that the point? This is a player that would accept sitting on the bench the entire game is what the team required, but that doesn't mean it doesn't damage his confidence. Goodwin has pulled two stupid culture moves with Watts and now Trenners.
  3. I think it's more likely them managing Gawn with the extended bench. Then playing Weed over Pedo leaves no backup, with Watts standing in the corner looking at the wall. Gawn does go well up forward though...
  4. Hibberd looked incredibly rusty. As though he hadn't played AFL in a year.... His first half highlights were horrible. I'd have Frost / Jetta over Hibberd rd1.
  5. True, he'll be fine. But will he be a better player for it?? Doubtful I'd say. He'll just be behind, having not played the pre-season games. He's best 22 and available, so I certainly hope he plays rd1.
  6. I don't back Goodwin on this Watts move. Roos did exactly the opposite with him, protected him. Watts stepped up because he wanted to pay it back. Also don't like the Hibberd / Melksham auto selection. Prefer Frost and Jetta. Goodwin is playing favourites.
  7. Bartel. More a drunken slur than whisper. Nothing in it but hasn't announced intentions for 17 I don't believe
  8. I'd be surprised. Salem is exactly the type of high skilled mid we need more of. In fact, calling it now, will not happen.
  9. JT has tricks. You said overhead marking, that's a massive strength. His skills are solid on both sides. Most important, he knows where to run. He's a link player with good vision but frustratingly doesn't attack enough. With the Goodwin program, he'll be an absolute gun next year and definite best 22 I reckon.
  10. Chris Scott is the Neeld of Geel... That's unfair to Neeld. Of many failings, a massive fail was having three rucks. Apart from woefully bombing long to an out numbered forward line, they were essentially playing a man down on field all game. Applying this to us... Why would we want to add a FWD/Ruck? We have a modern system with Gawn and Watts. Both in career best form. I was at the game and asked the Geel guy next to me where they vent frustration at their inept coach and selection, to find they don't have a 'Demonland'! True or not, it made me thankful to WJ and Nasher. And to Stuie who'd never have let up if we selected such a rubbish team.
  11. Dawes- the person in Bernie's B&F speech thanked for how important he is to him and the playing group. And H- whom Watts quoted when talking about learning to build a winning culture. No doubt they'd agree their contribution on field has been crap, but they're more important than you're giving credit. And Dal Santo feels more capable, he could add a lot. Maybe with the youngest playing group, we don't need to load up on as many kids as possible...
  12. Look at GC, they built a team on youth with very little focus on leadership and experience. Then look at GWS. Not the only factors, but what Sheedy did was smart and actually unexpected. The idea kids will fulfil their potential without that older generation is a very big question mark.
  13. I'm very interested in the game. Have been hoping for a match report from a Demonlander. Love that M Jones is winning the surprise improver award, also that Trenners is fighting back as he might be too quickly dismissed. I had both on the way out, too soon perhaps
  14. Tyson + Salem = Kelly. We need a hero, they need young players. TMac on track to be every bit as good as Rance. Oscar possibly better if you believe the MFC spin.
  15. TMac + OMac for Rance ? If we're serious about finals next year we need experience. Richmond need to rebuild. I rate TMac and OMac massively- Rance is ahead in age, development and will bring Frost, Hunt, Salem into maturity. Garland, Dunn, Grimes all look lost.
  16. I agree with Stuie. Bugg to add some fight. Oliver wins clearences. ANB to scrap. Games turn on individual efforts. Roos said we don't have a Danger, that sounded to me like a swipe at our leader. If Jones was held back that much by injury he shouldn't have played.
  17. Choke, I appreciate your enthusiasm for the nbn, I agree it's not the worst idea but the reality is that your rationale isn't good. Medical and University usage is backbone, not home use. They're possibly the only genuine benefits from your list. If you're so passionate about furthering technology then perhaps you should care about the cuts to the CSIRO, they invented wifi, I'm sure you like wifi? They also do cancer stuff.
  18. It's certainly an incredibly expensive elephant, unsure it will be entirely white. Artificial, in terms of political influence on football distribution, you'd be more relevant to look at anti-siphoning. The nbn is an expensive concept for the purpose of sport broadcasting. The more deregulation, the more the rights will be split into packages, that less people will access, it's an unfortunate problem.
  19. Because Junior was actually a leader. Who are you comparing, Dunn? I personally would've kept Dunn in the team, however. The diamond defence is a bad joke that will be recalled on DL for years to come.
  20. I was backing Garland to surge this week and remind why he has so much respect. He should be traded, could be a solid player in a different team, a Bernie like trade. Tyson isn't going out. Kent needs to rise to expectations, no point dropping him for being Mr average. Grimes must have earned his chance next week. Newton out for him.
  21. Nice Woodyy, you lost Kent however. Given your appreciation for speed I would've thought he'd make the cut? Harmes too, though he's potentially injured.
  22. Those calling for Garland should remember how much better the backline looked with Dunn. Garland needs to play more than one good VFL game. And Frost isn't going to be sent back, a pre-season mistake training him with the forwards. Oliver must come back in. ANB also, has earned his spot. Viv next, White close. Out: Salem, Frost. Viv should be in for Hunt, however that's unlikely.
  23. Outlet pass? Garland (walking) is too far for a handball and too close for a kick. Given they've been playing together for years that's not very cohesive positioning after the ball has been switched twice already. The Ess opponent is the guy on the mark, Garland still hasn't even passed him yet. It's simple overlap run: Bugg releases to Garland, kicks to Max. Teams commonly move the ball out of the backline this way, it requires the basic intent to move the ball forward. Bugg should have gone to Gawn fast (perhaps the 'leader' should have instructed him to do so) but instead tries for the corridor, when that isn't an option he goes long down the line. Turnover, goal. I'd be fine if you blamed Roos for not giving Garland a clear role, but what the hell was he doing out there? The forward Frost experiment was a mistake, Garland should've been made to compete for his spot with Frost. Harmes was poor, Viney was off, Garlett fumbled everything... But Garland fails the most basic tests at the most important moments.
  24. Turnovers are a big problem. A TMac turnover from taking the game on still has the players holding their heads up because they know they're playing the game right. The turnovers that hurt are these: TMac intercept mark from a good low Ess I50. TMac switches to Vince to MJones, switches back to Salem, Jetta, and TMac. -Now TMac has the ball and Garland is standing flat-footed in a useless position, no? Less than 2 minutes into Q3, why doesn't Garland run? -TMac hits Bugg, Viney is making an option on the inside but is covered. -Bugg actually moves to handball but sees Garland is JOGGING past. Is called to play on. -Bugg looks to go inboard but nothing on. Gawn down the line, perfect linkup if Garland had been running past. N Jones and Pederson further afield. -Bugg kicks down the line to Pederson and Gawn, ball spoils. Ess handball to the corridor, 2 rebounding kicks and goal. Do we blame Roos for not demanding more intensity? Garland is a leader, he was the only backline player not to make position and touch the ball in this play.
  25. Nobody interested in my passage of play, but I totally agree with AFarr. Garland has been playing for TMacs whole career, why is Bugg the one that knows to cover him? Why doesn't Garland run? Seriously, he's in the leadership group and he's standing there not instructing, not making himself an option, not doing anything. Why doesn't Garland run?
