got to say, have always loved the demon in all its incarnations. compared to the soccer club logo and the drink coaster logo, the demon says it all in footy terms. the marketing department might want to identify with the city of Melbourne, but in footy terms it leaves me cold. to quote Checker Hughes "I want you to fight like demons""

Not if your German Daisy. Or for that matter any other nationality. The only other observation is that Wedding is no longer the destination and if it is for some, the final destination is more likely Boring or Breakup. Not for all of us I might add. I am sure Bitter would also have whipping or thrashing in there somewhere probably after Petting but before........

Far too flattering. I understand that Uncle has gone to ground since the Craig McLaughlin allegations surfaced. Uncle does a very good impression of Frank N Furter, indeed, I am told he was approached to replace dear Craig until the production team checked out his CV and spoke to female cast members about his full audition.

"Be part of the journey" An overworked and overused phrase that is used by politicians, bureaucrats, and just about everyone else that has no conviction or passion. Perhaps they could have added ""as we go forward, be part of the journey" And perhaps qualify the slogan by stating that Rome was not built in a day. From a marketing perspective, a big fail. Bleed Red and Blue, Raise Hell or something that stirs something, anything.

The only Gods likely to care about Uncle are pagan gods. Given the the Uncles proclivities and indulgences, it's unlikely to be Bacchus. However, given the current weather conditions it could be Thor who is definitely not happy. With the crumbling ruin known as The Manor, no doubt the good Uncle is busy making sure he has enough buckets underneath all the leaks.

Indeed Daisy, we are a multi cultural place where bananas are not always regarded as the King of the Fruits. We must not forget all religions particularly those of SE Asia. As you know I have a deep interest in spiritual matters like many on this site particularly this thread. Over recent times, I have been drawn to Buddhism and the spiritual texts of The Vedas which predate all other religious texts by 500 years. The more commonly accepted religious texts are mere new and revised editions of The Vedas. So we must not forget the Durian. Worshiped by many as the King of Fruits. Perhaps we can encourage BB to try a Durian smoothy.

The good life BB. An apt time to say "well it sure beats working" Just avoid the crocs and other deadly creatures such as the elderly (in particular avoid the bus tour group), low class tourists in floral shirts especially the Poms, and the locals. You know the ones who are morbidly obese with no necks, faces full of skin cancers who speak in a completely incomprehensible lingua franca.

Welcome to Demonland: Bayley Fritsch
Like the highlights, definitely an X factor which is a bonus. With that number 2 on his back and his light frame, some of his plays remind me of a young Robert Flower.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - OSKAR BAKER
Looking at the film, Oskar looks a player. As do the others. I think we have done well.

2018 Membership Thread
Given the disappointment of missing out on finals, I think it will take a while for many 2017 members to come on board again in 2018. Perhaps the Watts affair will also have some impact. So good wins in the early part of the season are going to be very important. Supporters will climb aboard again if we have early success.

The No T$ No B$ Thread
Oh BB that really is not only very true but funny. Many of us can relate to the diplomacy of marriage. It was noticeable 2 years ago when I spent 2 weeks in Port Douglas with my better half just how much the locals don't tell you. Just like the tourist brochures. I'm talking about stingers, the location of crocs, and other deadly creatures. As one local explained to me, ""no we don't swim at the beach, we swim in pools." They really regard us Mexicans as a bunch of mugs. Anyway as they say in the classics, happy wife, happy life. Enjoy.

I'm not sure that you are not boasting BB, making us suffer down here, whilst enjoying the tropics. Be aware of the creatures that lie in wait for the unsuspecting tourist. Keep wifey close at hand. I must say though that your sentiments about preseason and what may happen on Friday are shared. Also cricket. I would normally be looking forward to the Ashes series but not at the moment. As my better half said last night, its like following the no name brand or black and gold brand of cricketers. Is it simply that all the codes are just saturating the market these days and we only have to wait 5 minutes before there is another match, game or competition here or in other parts of the planet. It leaves many of us sports lovers feeling jaded. Perhaps we need a bit of big game fishing or bull fighting to raise the adrenalin levels.

Wondered myself whether BB was referring to the dearly beloved or a pseudonym. I assumed given BB's credentials that it was the former. Lets face it, it is unlikely that one would be wearing "togs" if catching the sun with the pseudonym. Now if it was the good old Uncle, we would be assuming the opposite. I must admit, I am also surprised by your admission Redleg that you are acquainted with Wifey. Perhaps from your perusal of the evidence against a client. Or just research.

Now BB, using the term "togs" is like carbon dating. Although not an archaeological dig, the picture tells the story. You are clearly a baby boomer who enjoys the beach in his togs. The phallic cactus design, however, suggests some retro togs recently bought. It also suggests a "middle aged man" making a last ditch attempt to establish .....err lets say tasteful masculinity. I am afraid that my togs are an old pair of rather thin speedos that do nothing for my shape and for some reason seems to draw looks of disgust or laughter from the fairer sex. I also seem to attract much attention from the men, particularly the male twosomes, who or some reason seem to approve the look, obviously preferring the retro speedos to the boardies.

If you don't mind Uncle, you make two wrong assumptions, that I am both dead and an alcoholic. I prefer to be referred to as a "discerning dead alcoholic" I have had periods of abstinence but to borrow the lyrics from my old friend Leonard, "I fought against the bottle but I had to do it drunk." But that's no reason for a reprobate like you to be discourteous.

Best MFC team in last 50 years
Good call. Tassie was a great player. Good overhead both mark and spoil, beautiful kick and tough as nails. Looked like a film star with his great physique and slicked back jet black hair. One of the few players that could keep John Peck quiet and not be intimidated by him. I seem to remember Peck saying that had great respect for Tassie and was one of the best FB. Along with Bernie Massey his drop kicks had to be seen to be believed. You would pack the stands every week if you had a defender like Tassie drop kicking from the square. Tassie occasionally went up forward but later on in his career (and after the demise of Graham Wise) spent much of his time in the ruck. A small ruckman (6.1/6.2) he was very effective at centre bounces due to his positioning skills. In fact when you think back to those days, one realizes how many great skills and attributes of the game have been lost as we have moved further along the path of this hybrid game of part rugby, part soccer and part basketball. Despite statistics trotted out by the AFL, I meet more and more people who are so disillusioned with the way the game is played that they no longer attend or have lost interest altogether.

A little out of date Earl. I should update my bio, but I don't want to give my cover away. For that reason, I avoid Facebook, Linked In and all those other sites for pretenders and boasters. In that case, why do I post on this site? I find myself surrounded by a bunch of amiable folks who share a passion whilst at the same time share their eccentricities. . Sure there are the the boasters, the self-opinionated, the egotists, the argumentative, the grumpy, the depressed, the whingers, the crazy optimists, the dwellers of the cellars of the past, and indeed ,the psychotic, but overall a like able bunch of ratbags. I have found it much easier to pretend that I someone else to avoid editors, revengeful women, drinkers, no-hopers, pretenders, neo- fascists, last ditch commos and simply those who want to do me harm. One day we will run into one another and I will buy you a lemon squash.
