Why we will be better in 2018
kurtneverdied replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sooo much negativity in a year we have grown so much again this year. God yes it was heartbreaking and will take time to get over but, surely, it can only get better, can't hurt more than this. Making it next year means so much more now. The inconsistencies are narrowing. We will aim top 4 and I expect the clubs expectations to be there too. -
There's 18 teams in the comp. We finished 9th. Get the [censored] over it.

This time last year we were miles off what we are today. Everyone knows we are a force of the future. Yes it sucks, but just time to move on and this will only add to the sweetness when success comes. Happy to show you disloyal [censored] out the door too.
-
Yes everyone was sitting back against the walls looking like crying except Petracca who was into the lollies.

Nothing wrong with asking the hard truths. Fact is we needed to stand up on a massive occasion and couldn't. Who/what the problem is should be asked. Why do we go missing for a qrt? Why can we never kick away for a big win? Valid questions to ask ourselves.
-
More do do with an extremely inconsistent mid-field that can just go missing. Cannot ignore the fact we have improved. It's just not this year perhaps, it's frustrating. I want more. I guess we all want more. I guess "Hop" is the word in my head until tomorrow night when we all know.

Yeah can't sleep. Start work at 5am. Can't stop thinking... Will feel dead tomorrow if we're out.

Let's just hope that somehow this loss benefits us. We may actually end up getting a better draw finishing 8th too. Seems like a loss is still what's needed to get our boys up again. Hopefully we can switch it back on again like we know we can VS say Port away in 2 weeks.

The lack pressure TMac gave to allow Elliot to goal wasn't good enough at all. Yep send him forward forever. Now getting Lever and further strengthening tall backs are a must.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever

I also don't mind if we trade them both away. Only going to be mid-teen picks and our window is now/next year/next decade. As long as we get guns for our picks I believe we have enough core youth to be able to sacrifice a couple of drafts for trading purposes and bolster our side while we are attractive. Also a first-rounder and Frost is the least we will have to give IMO anyway. Any club would swap pick 1 for him now and pick11(?) plus Frost I personally would laugh at. -
Exactly why North have no choice but to pay overs for Dusty/Kelly. To survive they can't be down too long.

Lever is No.1 in Afl for intercept marks per game at 9.69 per game. Frost at No.27 at 6.50. So effectively if Lever replaced him we are statistically say a goal to the better per game? That's huge. -

Yes a week or two in footy can change opinions hugely. Frost is still young and we have praised him most of the year untill loss in form. Personally I was afraid Brayshaw would never make it back as classy as he did and so soon. Watts has been a match winner many times and we can't seriously expect to gain anything short term from dealing him to help us in our window. He is reaching a mature peak. Pedo perfect example. Personally I would give 2 first rounders for Lever. Not a player. For starters Lever is one of the first rounders, and we will likely finish high next year so say pick 13+ we would be giving away. We are in the window now for many years to come and a young Lever can be a pillar for the next decade of that. -

Chuck $50 on WC and should be able to buy plenty of "stuff" to help get over missing finals. Do it with others not alone in a greenhouse. I nearly stuffed up once. Thank god Courtney covered it for me. -

Haha! A way of not losing but not quite winning either. Safe. -
Exactly how I have been feeling. We can not put away teams, which is really concerning for this years prospects anyway.

Does make me wonder why we haven't been linked to a Dusty or a Kelly (A gun mid etc). If we really wanted them there is no reason we would be perhaps the most enticing choice. A Lever type won't come available every year, and looking at our key backs I think we are well short. Goodwin wants TMac forward. That leaves Oscar, Frost....Garland....??? We need a key back. Our young mids are still finding themselves and there roles and we'll surely be able to replace Vince, Lewis with free agents next year, year after etc. Also if we use our first rounder this year its most likely will be a mid/small type as hardly any bigs in top 20. -
