  1. Luke Lowden anyone? Still hasn't found a home with 48 minutes left on the board. If we trade down for Sam frost could potentially use a late pick on him?
  2. He was picked up at pick 11 in 2011 and has played some great footy. Even with his indiscretion, there is absolutely no way in hell that GWS would trade him off for pick 23. Also, I went to school with him and hear from mutual friends that he is quite happy in GWS at this stage, may look to come back some stage in the future though.
  3. A good way to do this would be just like how the clubs do it. Having a list of players in the order you would take them and cross them off as a team above selects them. For me, it would be 1. Christian Petracca 2. Angus Brayshaw 3. Jake Lever
  4. Wouldn't you have to pay out his final year of the contract (which would be considerably more than a rookie contract spot) then pay him the rookie contract amount? Also, Saints would be able to jump in at pick 1 if they were interested.
  5. On the contrary Jack, I went to school with Toby and I think it will most likely will be better for him to remain in GWS. The 'incident' in question occurred in Melbourne and the friends he has in Melbourne aren't a good influence on him. Knowing both them and him I am not surprised an incident occurred but am surprised he was involved. He was a little bit dumb but seemed like a good kid.
  6. I can't see GWS believing that is a fair trade, that would be steal for us.
  7. M Clark and pick 23 for Geelong pick 14 and 34. 34 ontraded for HL
  8. Source? Thank god for that! Not a bad player but think we should be aiming for players who have a bit more football left in them!
  9. Trade Clark, pick 23 and Blease for Pick 14 and Pick 35 from Geelong. Ontrade 35 for Lumumba, Stretch F/S in the 3rd round, Frost traded for 4th round pick. If unable to find any suitor for pick 3, trade it on to Gold Coast for 8 and 15. Melbourne Has: Pick 2, Pick 8, Pick 14, Pick 15, Lumumba, Stretch, Frost Out: Pick 3, Pick 23, Pick 41, Pick 60, Frawley, Clark, Blease Trade any of 2, 8, 14 or 15 for established players or utilise them in the draft. Edit: Forgot Frawley and draft picks edited for after free agency compo picks.
  10. Midfielder with pace... who can kick. Blease has pace but can't kick.
  11. Luke Lowden from Hawthorn has requested a trade to another club for more opportunities. I'd be definitely looking into him! http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/player-profile/luke-lowden
  12. Fourth I would have thought. Not that GWS will use it in the draft but just to get him to where he wants to go.
  13. I agree Nasher, last period we did very well out of the senior recruits, I just hope we are not pushing our luck!
  14. I have some concerns about how MFC is handling the upcoming trade period. We all remember the famous 'moneyball' trade period of 2012 where we lost players Moloney, Rivers, Martin, Gysberts and Petterd and brought in Dawes, Byrnes, Rohan, Pedersen and Gillies. Since then, Dawes has been underwhelming, Gillies delisted whilst Byrnes and Rodan have already retired. It appears now that we may be undertaking another 'moneyball' trade period. Merrett, Lumumba, Frost? Two of these players are past their primes just as Byrnes and Rohan were and Frost looms as a potential Pedersen or Gillies comparison, meaning he could either improve and contribute well or fall away. Note as well that all these players are usually played in defence. Roos has also made it very public that our improvement needs to come from the midfield so I am a bit confused by this. Some have posted on here that this is all smokes and mirrors for our real targets, I am not so sure. Don't get me wrong I am glad we are targeting players with experience, we obviously cannot recruit only 18 year olds. But I was beginning to wonder if our excitement of having Paul Roos as coach is leading us to believe that "we know what we are doing this time round, its a new board" etc etc. but is this strategy really going to work? I think we need to back ourselves in to only get these players if the deal is right and not payer overs because we are desperate for senior experience (for example I would argue that pick 22 for Lumumba is paying overs). If these players come cheaply then I understand our attraction but I am not so sure they will. Otherwise, I would rather see us go to the draft and back MFC to mould them into strong players of the future. Even if this means trading down picks so there is less pressure on the players (trade pick 2 to gold coast for picks 7 and 14) as all the media seems to indicate that the players in the 5 - 15 range are all of a similar standard and could go anywhere. Just confirming I am very happy with Paul Roos and PJ but just a bit concerned. Thoughts? Edit: spelling
  15. http://www.geelongcats.com.au/player-profile/jordan-murdoch Don't think Mitch Clark will be enough to get the deal done. Looks good though! Big bodied midfielder Roos loves.
  16. Yes but Tex, Sloane and Danger are all out at the same time, I highly doubt they will be able to match the offers from different clubs for all of these players. I.e. $1M a year for Patty, $700,000 a year for Sloane and Tex.
  17. Looks like the free agents have choked North's salary room. I'd be happy to use pick 22 on him and try to trade in a later 2nd rounder i.e. Geelong for Mitch Clark to then use that on HL
  18. If we get Sam Frost I doubt we will move on Oscar McDonald (Tom's brother) as they are a similar height and play the same position. I was expecting him to be our 4th round pick.
  19. I would do pick 3 for GC two first rounders in a heartbeat! Big fan of Laverde and De Goey.
  20. Clark can't be a delisted free agent because of the terms in the settlement agreement. "The AFL Players Association view is that Clark cannot be considered for free agency, because the terms of his settlement with Melbourne were equivalent to a player retiring and the rules prohibit players exploiting retirement as a back-door way of claiming free agency. So, Clark's options are either to play at Melbourne or find another club via a trade or the draft." http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/magpies-make-a-pitch-for-mitch-clark-20140909-10eobl.html#ixzz3EfNWQSwr
  21. You'd be surprised. Melbourne might say its these picks or enjoy your one free agency pick next year.
  22. I think he'd rather play with Sloane, Thompson and Van Berlo.
