What does what they paid have to do with true value?

Ben Sokol
Great stats Nev, averages 8.6 mks, 3.2 tcks and 12 goals 10 behinds per game! Hard to imagine kicking 12 goals 10 behinds from 16 disposals though.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
George Santayana said "Those that cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" How many early draft picks have Gold Coast had? Where are they on the ladder? Is it working? If I put water in a tank and it is leaking, should I keep putting water in or fix the leak? These questions are not ground breaking or new, why the hell have the AFL not addressed the problem? Fix the leaks first!

A two thirds vote of the 18 clubs can veto any AFL decision. Maybe it's time for the clubs to sack the commission and start again.- Jamie Elliott
I believe that Ross Lyon acted without the knowledge of his manager (His manager also managed Mark Harvey) and that there are no restrictions to coach movement. (The deal took ten days from initial contact until announced - according to Michael Warner Herald Sun) So it is possible that only two people knew about it and they weren't talking, unlike players with managers and multiple teams and a whole raft of rules. It is not the best comparison. Edit:- https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/how-coach-ross-lyon-moved-from-st-kilda-to-fremantle/news-story/d905c681affa633013f40fd8e250ad66- Jamie Elliott
Unlike you I will answer your question. He is letting the player know that he is valued. It is a feel good thing to say that means exactly nothing, it will not affect his value. I enjoy your posts Rusty and I am sure so do many others. Now are you a better or more worthwhile poster? No, but it might make you feel good.- Jamie Elliott
How would saying every club would like to have him or I doubt many clubs would like him have any effect on his value? If you go to an auction and a prospective buyer says I'd like this house and so would many others do you seriously think other bidders will think I better pay more? We go into auctions with a price that we will go up to as a maximum and hope to get it cheaper, no amount of spruiking will affect the price, actual other interested bidders will. Another bidder may value the property higher than you but you can't do anything about that.- Jamie Elliott
How does that talk his price up? We would be aware of who is interested, his manager would have told us. This could have the opposite effect, in that we know other clubs are interested this is our best offer and it is open to reducing if you mess us around. If you have a better offer take it there will be no negotiating. If they say they have a better offer and come back to you you know you have him.- Michael Walters Acting
As I thought Walters at round fourteen had 10 votes and our best Max was on 16 Please send my winnings to the club. Cheers- The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
Or leave together. Or leave separately. Retention is their problem not picks. Get them senior players or a retention allowance, not more kids.- List changes who do we cut, trade or go after.
I have no respect for anyone that punches a woman. It is quite telling that he didn't punch Balme, I imagine Balme would have placated him or if not possible relocate him.- Bombers Succession Planning

GCFC is but one component of a successful business model. Advertisers and TV put up their money based on the exposure generated by having games in all states and territories. The current model where some sides make money and others lose money works because of the big picture and redistribution. Not all business units need to make money if the overall business is sound. The problem with Gold Coast is that they need more and different help. Not more draft picks. One or two free agents outside the salary cap for a start. A real cost on free agents leaving bottom clubs. Players leaving bottom 4 clubs for top 4 sides to have a salary cap penalty to the top 4 clubs. (Or top 8 sides can only get 1 free agent every 5 years) I am glad the Coniglio is staying put, I am glad if the AFL has helped.- Will Carlscum rise up the ladder?
- Where is the Frost apology?
Maths is done, maximum output is 100% by definition. Sorry no 108%- Where is the Frost apology?
How is that possible? Surely if he gives his maximum or best effort that becomes 100% A glass full of water is 100% full, adding more (impossible) does not make it over 100% full, if you can get more in the glass then it was not 100% full. Edit: And don't talk to me about overclocking, which is merely under specifying for reliability.- The Stephen Coniglio Thread
Easy, Mao is the most ethical, also he actually had vision. Edit: What would happen if Cognilio said, I would prefer that the AFL was led by a CEO that was good at their job and stuck to it?- Are we tanking?
We are not tanking! Tanking does not exist. I prefer to call it "playing the long game" We are allowing players to play their best albeit sometimes at Casey, sometimes out of position and sometimes they are told to keep away from certain players presumably for their own good. (Sidebottom may have an infectious disease, caused by leather poisoning) No we are not tanking, but if our current selections and coaching is a guide I can understand why you think so. If we are not engaged in "playing the long game" we are in deep poo! But in all seriousness I believe we are "playing the long game".- The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
Another early pick is not the answer. Look at where they are now with all those early picks. 1- Give them access to one free agent outside the salary cap. 2- Give them an end of first round pick that they must swap for a player over 24yo. 3- Embargo free agency from GCS to any side above them on the ladder for 4 years. Edit: 1 I would like to ban free agents going to a top 6 side or leaving a bottom 6 side all together. 2 Destination clubs should pay a fair price to the departure side in all free agency moves.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
