  1. Which presumes that the football department is correct EVERY SINGLE TIME. The football department doesn't get it right every time. With that in mind of course posters should question them. I would be surprised if Mahoney and Viney didn't question each other. You seem to be the only one who doesn't understand this. Pretty basic stuff. Not rocket science.
  2. Same. That is why I am glad this deal has fallen through. Hogan is a far better player than May, and has far greater upside than May. Thank god Freo have stuffed this deal. We probably would've give pick 5 for May, which essentially means we'd get May and 23 for Hogan. That would be a poor result. Hogan is worth far more than that.
  3. 5 and 23 is a credit to our football department for their willingness to take unders in order to satisfy Hogan's desire to return home. It sounds like we did all we could on our end. We put Hogan's wishes ahead of the clubs needs. When contract time comes we can only hope Jesse factors that gesture in.
  4. Passing up the opportunity to land Hogan, and overseeing the departure of Neale - pretty much puts paid to any chance Fyfe may of had of tasting success in his career. Sandilands will depart at the end of next year, and with no guarantee Darcy will make it as a ruckman, that could very well leave Lobb to carry the load. Freo will still need key backs and forwards. Hogan is probably the last home grown forward to fit their need, and they just passed up on him for a reasonable deal. It is just a disaster for Fremantle IMO. If I were Fyfe I would be asking for a trade this week.
  5. If calling 'worth every penny we spent on him' doing an ACL and sitting on the sidelines, then yeah. He had a prior ACL history, we paid overs, then he did his ACL in his first year at the club. Those are the cold hard facts. It backfired on our great football department, and this is more to the point I was trying to make to the other poster (Moonshadow), who ridiculously suggested that posters shouldn't question our football department, which is a brain dead statement to make. It presumes that the football department gets it right every time, which it doesn't. The Lever trade is a perfect example of that.
  6. I wouldn't take Scully back and I doubt he breaks into our midfield. He is a shocking kick. Good on Scully for cashing out at the Giants because he didn't achieve much there. Maximised his career earnings and has probably got the most out of himself, even though he has achieved little. He just wasn't very good in the first place. He has sh*t skills and no poise. He is always rushed. We dodged a bullet.
  7. Had our great FD not sold the farm for a 3rd up back with an ACL history (who subsequently did an ACL in his first year at the club), then maybe we would already have May this year. FMD!
  8. He is being massively overrated. What has Steven May ever done to warrant MFC parting with a first round pick?
  9. Hopefully Freo pulling out of the Hogan trade means we don't get May.
  10. So we've told Freo if Hogan does seek a trade, that picks 5 and 6 will get this deal done. Obviously Freo will baulk at that, and won't give up those picks, and we will most likely come to an arrangement of picks 5 and Freo's 2019 first round pick. That would be a good deal for Hogan. I can't see Fremantle making the 8. They should still be bottom 6-8.
  11. The most sensible idea yet. The only trouble with that is GC are falling apart and there is a bidding war for May. Our 2019 first round pick would be overs, but GC would ask for Fremantles 2019 first round pick, and based on our prior drafting history we'd probably give them both. I think we should keep clear of May as he is being massively overrated at present. He is barely worth a second round pick to my eye. I think if we are going to stuff around with the likes of Steven May then we should've just kept Pederson on our list, as there is not much difference in the two.
  12. If we somehow manage to get both 4 and 5, then taking them to the draft is an absolute no brainer. Rankine and Walsh are exactly what we need. It might be possible to get both. That would be an insane result. I hear talk of Steven May, but I think if we wanted a similar player we'd of kept Pederson on. I don't see much difference in the two.
  13. I would agree with that.
  14. I hope Buckley is extra persuasive. Collingwood can overpay for this spud. May is no better than Pederson.
  15. He can play but he has been concussed a lot. He is probably a knock or two from giving it up. We aren't talking about a kid with the mindset of Angus Brayshaw, who wouldn't give it up even if he copped more knocks. Brayshaw is stubborn. Kolodjashnij is cut from a different cloth altogether. He is hesitant. I watch him. I watched him as a junior. He has great skills and elite movement, he is a very graceful mover. But, he is just a knock away from giving it up IMO. I'd be prepared to give up a 3rd round pick but nothing more.
  16. Morgan was a speculative pick at the time. It was a pick that surprised nearly everyone. He was touted to go late in the draft. We certainly wouldn't have selected him. We would've been as much chance to select Sam Menegola or Tom Phillips. Who really knows who we would have taken. Looking back in hindsight is pointless. But I will acknowledge the likelihood of us drafting a player who is having as much imput as Melksham has had - is very unlikely. We pulled the right reign.
  17. In a strong draft (first round especially), no way. Steven May is worth stuff all. He isn't much chop.
  18. I think to agree. He will strengthen Casey, that is about it.
  19. Obviously Gary Pert didn't want Caro there. Very clear cut. I don't hear much about Pert, but assuming he is still at our club then I suspect he does not want Caro there. I would be very surprised if he did welcome Caro. She has spent the best part of the 5 years sh*t canning him, and implying things without evidence. MFC is not a democracy where everyone is welcome to come to our functions and sh*t can our staff, make up stories and destabilise our club. Whoever made the call that Caro was banned, good on them. My full support. I want her - and anyone else who criticises us - no where near our club. The media in this country are beyond pathetic and no serious organisation should give them a platform to spew hate.
  20. Good on Gus. He had a great year. Well deserved top 3 finish.
  21. Pretty sure he has 1.2 million reasons a year why it isn't a bad idea.
  22. We have all waited for Jesse to become a good player, and he is a good player, in fact, he is better than a good player. But if reports are right then Hogan has 1.2 million a year to weigh up. Its not that the decision is out of our hands - it isn't. But that offer is something we can't even nearly match when Hogan is out of contract. Do we want to deny the kid a life changing payment for our short term benefit? I don't think we do, and I don't think we benefit a lot. The situations evens itself out in the short, medium and long term when you factor in draft picks - our ability to move them around - and salary cap space. We may actually be better served moving Hogan on, and he may be better served taking the 1.2 million a year. This could be a win/win for both parties.
  23. If reports are correct and Fremantle are offering Hogan 1.2 million a year, then obviously Hogan has something to think about. Even if he didn't want a trade, those are the type of number that change an individuals life. Lets be fair. Everyone of us in Hogan's position would be looking at those numbers and weighing up our future. He probably takes the deal. I say that because I would take the deal, and everyone I know would take the deal. Throw in a potential to go back home and it becomes an easy decision. So Hogan probably goes. What do we get? I would really hate MFC to waste anything on Steven May. I have watched football for 30 years and if Steven May is worth anything better than a 3rd round selection I will eat my hat. He is an undersized backman, who is slow, an ineffective. I see nothing in May at all. I have watched him closely the past two years because for some reason people mention him as a top class backman. He isn't a top class backman at all, he is really not much chop. I would have him on par with Pederson.
  24. May is slightly better than Pederson was.
  25. I hope we make a big play for Kelly this year.
