  1. Given each player has played 10 years or more how could you leave one player out and the other player in. You are trying to micromanage the irrelevant with no plausible impact on the outcome. You forget Carlton will be looking to win for a top 4 spot regardless of MFC effort. We dont tag Judd, Stevens, Murphy anf Gibbs and give Fev room to move. Its definitely manageable so long as Carlton turns up on the day.
  2. Agree on the PSD but not the number of picks. Do we assume that the 5 new players excludes elevations from the rookie list? If we cant trade away cnotracted players who are no longer requiired then with the 5 new players If we elevate Spencer, we need six delists. Picks 1,2,18,34,50 (Spencer) PSD 1 If we elevate Spencer plus another rookie we need seven delists Picks 1,2,18,34,50 (Spencer), 66 (rookie) and PSD 1. Thats not always the case. I'd rather trust actual history which shows that PSD options are subject to one off contingent contractual fall outs (eg Stevens and Farmer) or good recruiting quite held options. The PSD can give you a gem but there is no certainty that the PSD will yield any quality. Its more of a lucky dip at times.
  3. No. That should be covered by experiementation. And St Kilda's loss to the Dons should be the pre finals spike they needed.
  4. Make sure you know why we lost. Look I have seen too many upsets to take this for granted. However I do recognise there are differences in the 2007 situation. But I would be sure we wont tag the best 4 in the Carlton midfield and we wont double team Fev. I wont be happy until Round 22 finishes. Your nervousness is shared...but for different reasons.
  5. Has it been confirmed about Junior moving on? From what I have observed (or not observed) , I am not sure Junior will be gone at year end. So I have cut the 4 players above on the basis that Junior staying takes up a spot on the list. On my scenario they would use pick 66 for Spencer and either draft with Pick 50, keep Cheney or elevate Valenti. I reckon they might use oick 50. If they keep Junior, I dont think that augurs well for a player like Valenti. I am assuming they will use the PSD pick one way or the other.
  6. Good Grief. Talk about missing the wood for the trees. The retirees did not win the game for us. We played a side that was hell bent on losing the game. I think the scenario is much different now Start investigating issues like no tag on TJ who accumulates 40+ possessions. What's the odds of an asteroid hitting the earth this year? Its a different scenario so take a Bex and lie down. It isn't.....Thank God :D
  7. Is that the same guy that raved on for years that Terry Wallace was the best coach around and would be a premiership coach? Could not think of a bigger caveat emptor to be applied to his posts?
  8. You just argued my point. BTW, the way if Valenti was viewed as good enough by the Footy Department they would not have had to decide whether to have the PSD pick. He could have been elevated earlier this year when injuries started up and players were out for the season. He wasn't. Do you know how player contracts are determined and do you understand the complexities of list management. I doubt it. I will give credence to the Foot Dept because they are made up of predominantly AFL experienced people with years in the game who spend hours upon hours watching and assessing footballers at MFC and other Clubs. There is alot more information that they are privy to that you and I would never know about. But you know better Mono? I am sure you dont. However in recognising the expertise of the Footy Dept. I will also hold them responsible and accountable for their decisions and the outcomes. BTW, while I dont agree with the Newton contract, Valenti's future did not rest on the outcome of Newton's contract. You're clearly a hindsight scholar and its fooled you into a series of "I Know better" postshots.
  9. I said he is in the gun. I didnt say he had been shot out one end! For mine, Miller, Bartram, Cheney and McNamara are off the list. They try and rookie McNamara. If they can engineer a trade for any of them...all the better.
  10. As we are not in the finals race this year then MFC should take this opportunity to honour and acknowledge retiring players who have given 10+ years service to the Club. Its send an important message to younger players and recognises players who in their own way have been role models and leaders at the Club. Which kids did you have in mind playing??
  11. I share your excitement Vibes. I think Morton is good now but he will be superb.
  12. Why poor list management? If the Footy department thought he was good enough he would make the list.
  13. Its simple....delist uncontracted players...Miller, Buckley, Bartram, Cheney, McNamara are all in the gun potentially. If you have Robbo, Wheats and Wheels retiring/delisted then there's three off. The other thought (but I dont give it much credence) is finding a home for a player at another club like rpfc exampled. Could we get rid of one unwanted player that way? Maybe but I severely doubt it.
  14. 1. As it is at the MCG it would be fitting to give the retiring players (if fit) a send off match in Round 22. 2. As for playing the kids, haven't we been doing that so far!!! I dont think there are any more players we can possibly debut who are likely to play on next year.
  15. I said neither. Cant you work it out? Doesn't seem like it. I am sure the Footy Dept will steer the course necessary but we do require the opposition to play its part as well
  16. Never was and certainly is not now. You do? MFC would win...easily.
  17. They wont be tanking but they dont want to take the match lightly either.
  18. Or retain another player who is currently on the list? I think your question is academic as the media are repeatedly saying that Robbo has been told his services wont be required next year at MFC.
  19. You said key forward. Hels a key forward. Its different to referring to a KPP. And your point of the KPP had no relevance to the issue at hand. And you're right to acknowledge Johnson and Didak. There is nothing unusual about their roles. Most teams have them. Nor is there anything special about Robbo. The way he played was actually an advantage because he played taller than he was and was a hard oppoent to cover. Glad you admit he is a key forward after saying he isnt. And he has played the way he has played since he started. You really do have to floss the facts to try and achieve your outcomes.
  20. Dom McLardy spoke optimistically about the future saying we would have 3 picks in the top 20 this year. I doubt we will trouble Carlton or St Kilda but we need to continue to experiment to make sure.
  21. Great to see Jimma make it to the game today. As a general and subtle warning to all posters, it would not be appropriate to speculate, pass rumours etc on Jimmy's health. We have already had an instance of a thread of such nature being deleted. So in respect of our President be supportive and judicious in your comments. Thanks P.S. I hope he makes a full and fine recovery.
  22. With Neitz, he has been in top 2 forwards that we have. Of course he has been a key forward. Its not a criteria ruled by size. And the very fact that you spout 400 career goals only emphasises that he has been a key forward. And I repeat I have acknowledge his achievements over his career frequently but whenever there is a discussion on Robbo's last few years, you cant take it and go into parrot like support off the topic. Is Brad Johnson not a key forward for Bulldogs? Is Didak not a key forward for the Pies? You can do it. You can get your mind around it. So why did you bother? In 2006 at the pointy end of the season, Robbo's game had fallen away significantly. He was great in 2005 but by 3/4 of the way through the season, Robbo performances had started to wane. He was lucky to play in the 2006 EF and performed poorly in it. I also thought Robbo did not work as hard for his goals in 2006 that he did in 2005. And some of the traits he has been criticised for on here were starting to appear back in 2006 (eg accountability, team orientation and defensive pressure).
  23. I note you said that Cam hesitated before answering. Did you expect Cam to talk about the end of Robbo's career ahead of any announcement by the Club and the player? That would be grossly unfair to Robbo and any other player in that situation. Cam is not that sort of bloke and his response was a perfect diplomatic media answer.
  24. The title of this thread is Robbo being signed.Thats the question. And I have already acknowledge he some scalps to his name. But both in the past 4 years (not 3) and at times in the other periods he often does go missing against big name players. So the comment does have some validity. And your effort to argue that it does not apply is uninformed and not true. So if we put the word "often" at the front of the statement you can relax.
