  1. I make it the most recent 3 to 4 years which is a decent period to form a reasonable assessment of a player. Simple as that. And its the most relevant period in considering Robbo's future. Glad you realise that he did not beat Scarlett after all this year. Sorry he hasn't in recent years. And he has played as a key forward. That just highlights how much you miss.
  2. Scarlett played as a carefree loose defender and was not made at all accountable by Robbo and just dominated. I worry you missed it. While he did kick 3 goals, Scarlett had 22 possessions that day and was instrumental in setting up so many attacks.
  3. Because it is not true. In fact it was the opposite case when they recently met. His record against Geelong since 2006 has been nothing to write home about. He did kick 7 in 2005 at KP. Was he on Scarlett that day? Regardless his best was 4 years ago. A good career thats in its twilight.
  4. The same could have been said about Port Power some weeks ago. Carlton are more likely to win. But its not in the bag until ...its in the bag. Fair call
  5. Over the course of his career he has indeed got some fine scalps. But which classy opponents has he beaten in the past three years?. And its because he is at the twilight end of his career.
  6. Yup. I saw the future today up forward....Jurrah and Bate. Enough said.
  7. He has a contract and is unlikely to raise a trade deal. It will only raise questions amongst those that think you can delist on current form and not contract length. While I thought the signing of Newton for 2 years was surprising it was done at a time when MFC were truly bereft of forwards and he was a "chance". There is a alot more that goes into list management and contract negotiations that you realise.
  8. Why would another Club trade for Bartram and Miller who are not best 22 in a rank awful side? If Hawthorn have lost faith in all their ruckman then PJ will compound their problems. Rivers is an interesting one though....
  9. McDonald retires and you have another spot on the list. It just impacts the rookie list. I think thats what you're saying. You delist players on contract expiry not on form. We will need more than 4 picks in the draft. Thanks Doggo. That makes sense. If Newton, PJ and Bell dont improve next year then they will get delisted in 2010. McNamara could be delisted and resigned as a rookie.
  10. Its not just about the $$$. By dumping a player and paying out his contract and killihng his AFL career, how do you think vthat sits with players, player managers, sponsors and AFL who provide special funding if a Club keeps flip flopping on its commitment to players. Raises a question on the competence of the foott dept No. Carroll was a serial trouble maker, a culture sore and a problem with the other players and a definite out. No issues there in that extreme case.
  11. Bstars is right about playing Sandilands. Make him hurt for every tap which makes him slower and less agile as the game wears on. PJ trails Jamar by a mile ATM.
  12. Gourdis was a PSD pick that was overlooked from the main draft so I dont think the 2 rule apply. Why did the Essendon player get sacked? Breach of contract? Discipline? There are ramifications about paying out contracts. Think harder about it. Spencer will be elevated on to the list for next year.
  13. What other forward options did the footy dept staff have at the time they signed him? I doubt with a fully fit list next year that Newton will hold his position. Do you understand the implications of paying a player out?? Clearly not. Unless its a Carroll situation, I cannot see MFC paying any further contracts out.
  14. Bail, like all first time draft recruits is on a 2 year contract. He has served one year and has another to go next year.
  15. That's exactly the concern. Welsh is likely to go because he is no longer good enough. But at least you can work out where Robbo is at. A fine career at the Club but its over.
  16. On the contrary I have continually wished him well and recognised his career achievements. I have never questioned his desire to keep playing. Just that he is no longer good enough and he cant see that. He is not the first player and I have evidence others. Spare us the childish melodrama. You're once more off the mark, trivial and completely two faced in your judgements. Shouldn't expect much more than that on past form. Good grief. Your acidic condemnation of players like PJ makes your overblown defence of your protected species laughable and ridiculous. But you would be the last to see that as usual.
  17. I agree he is the next big thing.......what ever it is.
  18. You can only query his better judgement. But where?? VFL? Sorry he is. His issues are not who is around him so much as the player himself.
  19. Agree. Interesting about Lethal. There was one year that he had a blinder and won every media/sporting award by a country mile and got no where near the B'low in a year where he was not reported. I thought he only became a thug in his later years.
  20. Football supporters in general respect champions from other Clubs. I think it was sad when a recognised champion whose better days are long past does not recognise that and plays on as a poor parody of their former great selves. Hawkins and Plugger were two examples. Hawkins - Hardly a barometer - Brownlow votes. I still cant work out how Leigh Matthews never won a B'low during times where he dominated the competition. Brereton - Won 5 flags and was in the Hawks greatest ever team as their best CHF. Its not surprising. To be honest, I dont know of too many Pies supporters (I know a few unfortunately and most are right into the game) care two hoots about Sav Rocca who they rate as ordinary.
  21. I dont think those words would apply to the NRL off the field.
  22. Colbert, Judd and Thompson left at the peak or near peaks of their careers, Hawkins, Brereton and co left when their best football was behind them. In the case of Hawkins, it was a case of embarrassingly so. I dont think you get a necessarily objective opinion from a supporter of players of one's own team.
  23. This is indeed the issue. I am sure Junior will handle this decision with the same character and dignity he has shown all his career.
  24. Agree wholeheartedly. Agree. The same could be said for Plugger. It takes an astute champion to be able to manage his won exit from the game with all his dignity in tact (Hird is one player who comes to mind on this). Sometimes injury opportunity and circumstance can derail the best laid plans in this area.
  25. Agree. He will end up flat on his bum. Sometimes players are the last to see that its over (eg Woey) I doubt if its intelligence. Tell him he is dreaming.
