  1. In the 6 or 7 weeks left this year, Tapscott will do well to be competitive for 4 quarters at VFL level. A possibility for 2011 debut for MFC.
  2. Agree. He has been a long time great of the game. One of the best FBs I have ever seen. Pity about the odd incident here and there. Its interest how it focusses some posters attention away from 300 games of great AFL football. Would have loved him in MFC colours.
  3. Agree. While I think Sylvia will play if fit I dont think his prior year form guarantees him a spot. On his performances to date he has not set the world on fire in particular before being injured. At times his decision making and ball use has been verging on dumb. But at the start of this year I thought he could be something. But I have seen little to date to suggest he is at that level. If fit he should play but he would want to pick his game. He is fortunate that a spot on the forward line is not as competitive as a spot up back otherwise his position would be interesting. He needs to lift and I hope he does. If he got it together he could be a very good footballer. He has not been that this year.
  4. Over the past three weeks he has done more than McKenzie. In his 3rd game of AFL, Gysberts was given a fair bit of attention by the Pies. What does that tell you about how oppositions rate him so early in his career? Sound logic.
  5. If Col and Junior are fit, I agree with the changes. Tempted to drop Jetta rather than McKenzie. Indeed. You should have have stopped at the 3rd question mark.
  6. He is not that bad even though his action is not great. Its a challenge with many established rucks that they are never as good ball handlers as smaller players. Spencer has time to improve on that. At the moment has has all the core basic of ruckwork and competes physically so I would persevere with him. On your assessment we have Jamar and no one else and we are going to rookie another ruckman. I think we might have to entertain the notion of 2-3 year AFL experienced ruck, If you think the gap between Jamar and Spencer is wide then its double that to the next lot until they prove their capability and get some game time in them. Gawn has not played yet and Fitz played his first VFL game on the weekend.
  7. Good thoughts. I am not sure its a case of either Bruce retiring or Pettard going GC. If one of them does go then wouldnt you use pick 83 for McKenzie? And if you could say move Maric to the rookie list (hypothetical)then wouldn't you use pick 99 to elevate Spencer?
  8. Keep putting those pins in the Dwayne doll. It's sure to help... Maybe not. But "hate"...sheesh.
  9. PJ was terrible last year. He had his big chance to perform on the big stage and was not up to it. He gave a further encore this year. They'd do better jumping out of that window if they are that desperate. If we get any trade offer for PJ....we take it. We wont. Other teams just aren't that stupid.
  10. Good point. In addition to their double standards.
  11. Brock had three injury plagued ordinary years at MFC. He finished 11th in our B&F last year. They had recast a new contract at MFC for him on a lower wage based on performance but where he stood as part of MFC's future. I am not sure there was room for Beamer, McLean and Jones in the one team. He did not like it and wanted out. As you pointed out MFC were quick to act and got pick 11 for McLean from Carlton. Already the deal is a winner for MFC. An injury plagued middle rung midfielder in a bottom side and we got pick 11. The options were that we pay more than we wanted for player of middling importance to us or we could have let him go to the PSD. What we do with it is the extra bonus. Gysberts to date seems a great use of the pick. And should get better. And with Scully and Trengove, the emergence of Bail and McKenzie and the improvement in Jamar and Beamer, I am struggling to see how we are missing McLean. McLean may ulitimately pay dividends at Carlton. But he hasn't to date. And their trading of pick 11 for a ready to go midfielder is looking a bit sick. He is in their VFL side and the player most likely keeping Hadley is being pillaged in the press as being too slow. Some good bullets you pointed out. They are the major ones. I reckon the others we dodged or bits of fortune we had are: 1. Sacking Carroll 2. CJ walking out or getting the encouragement too 3. We did not bid too high for R. Warnock 4. Avoided ooverspending on Prismall. 5. Chasing Bradshaw. 6. Ball choosing to go to the Pies. 7. Bail and McKenzie from high picks or rookie 8. We did not run on sentiment in regard to retiring senior players
  12. I still think we are in line for 3 to 4 more wins. Adelaide, Brisbane, Richmond and one of Dons, North, Swans. Anything above that is a very good outcome. From an optimistic point of view, I think we have a realistic chance in all the remaining games other than Freo and St K. I still think the Hawks (sans Buddy) and Port are beatable While I dont think 12 wins guarantees you a final spot it gives you a damn good shot at. If that is to happen will MFC get 12.5 wins? Either way unless we have the 6 wins mentioned earlier and a generous finals outcome on qualifying for the 8, I dont think we will have September action.
  13. Spencer is 20 year old who can actually ruck and compete physically in contests. He has all the basic attributes for centre ruckwork and he can potentially build into an AFL ruck within 2 to 3 years. PJ is big. However, he cant ruck, cant play forward, is poor above his shoulders. He has been on our list for 5 years and in the AFL for 7 years. What you see is what you get? A player who plays a foot shorter than he is. He has to go. Given PJ should go also assists Spencer as aside from Gawn, there are no other ruckman on the list to back up Jamar(Excluding Dunn, Miller, Sylvia). Unless we are expecting to trade for a young AFL ruck with a few years on the clock, I cant see the logic of cutting PJ and Spencer.
  14. Where would he play and who would he replace in the team? What players would he reasonably match up on from another side given his lack of pace? If his current form includes Satruday at Willy then he wont be seeing much AFL.
  15. Thanks for the clarification KC. I share your opinion about the listings. On that basis I would only include Bell and maybe Spencer for contesting the whole day. I was just disappointed that Jurrah aside, some of the MFC performances were a little meek. Notwithstanding the conditions, the ball skills particularly in the 2nd half were poor.
  16. Get you a pick between 35 to 50 if you did and there were buyers. Good thought unless MFC do see him as a sure thing to get game time next year. However he is OOC and possibly at risk to walk (hobble!) to another club in the PSD. His contract expires end of 2010. I think he is contracted for 2011. However if he cant be more than depth in 2011 then he may struggle to stay on the list.
  17. The first line of it would have struck a chord with you. B) Where did you hear that it was the best ever? On this thread? No one said it was the best ever. And if you dont think so DD, Well then....
  18. Says it all doesn't it! If ever there was an endorsement of Club's decision......
  19. Its amazing when a truly breathtaking goal is kicked by a player from another team and the following happens: 1. The OP makes an errant claim about what the papers say about it. 2. Other posters can only come up with MFC goals to try (feebly) to better the effort of Franklin's 2nd goal. I would have thought it was easier to come up with great goals from other clubs players like Fev, Rioli etc who have kicked some pearlers. 3. I did say to get the red and blue goggles off for some more broadminded debate but its clearly too hard. But well done on the your tube clips.Good viewing.
  20. The OP has been warned for his comments on Kruezer's injury. Its hard luck for any player to that and the whole game is lesser for it. This injury will dent Carlton finals hopes. However,on 3aw today pre match Walls, Shaw, Caro and Richo were giving Carlton the biggest bake ever for trading pick 11 (Gysberts) for McLean who they also rated as an ordinary footballer that looked good in a bottom side but not in a side hoping for finals. They were also critical of the Warnock decision and said that regardless of Kruzers injury they have to play him given they have spent so much on him. Walls was venomious about how Carlton had given up Gysberts or pick 11 for McLean and questioned the wisdom of Swan, Ratten and others at Carlton. Most felt that Carlton were struggling to achieve their 2010 goals set back in 2008. The injury to Kruezer only makes it worse and highlights the other list shortcomings.
  21. Delist: Bell PJ Miller Maric (Move to rookie list) Elevate: McKenzie Spencer (All other current rookies cut) Draft 1st 3 draft picks Players in consideration for deisting if not contracted in 2011: Cheney I dont think Junior will retire this year on current form. At the start of the season I thought so but my mind is changing.
  22. The resident seagulls looked good on the ground against Casey. Its salad days for forwards when you win so easily by 20 goals. Every defender is capable of playing forward. They just walk to the opposite end of the ground and ..... Bailey throwaway comment on the flossed footy show is no validation of commitment or intention. I would not be putting any weight on it. But if you repeat it often enough on this site it becomes a "fact".
  23. Good. Take the blinfold off and think. While Jurrah had a tough day at the office. He did little to suggest he is ready for call up. He is still 3 weeks away IMO. BTW, none of the MFC players for Casey suggested any reason for potential call up to AFL. KC from Casey had Bell and Johnson as our best. I thought they were ordinary and poor respectively and will be gone at year end. Cheney was ordinary. Maric has a contract in 2011 but should be put on the rookie list at year. ???? about the other MFC players there too. Only positive is that Jurrah got through unscathed.
  24. Before we all get into a flap dears.....what did the pappers say? "the article in todays paper suggested that there had never been a better goal kicked at the G." Which paper? And its the OP's interpretation of "suggested". Here is what the Hun said: Retired Richmond star Matthew Richardson said it was unbelievable. "I was sitting right on the boundary and the noise was deafening," Richardson said. "Buddy was on fire. I couldn't bounce the ball (when I ran) - that's the thing I find amazing. "They were two of the best goals I've seen. He's the best athlete ever to play the game." Other greats were similarly spellbound. Robert Walls said, "You will not see a better goal this year", while Leigh Matthews said it was "just amazing". This is what the Age wrote HAWTHORN legend Peter Hudson, the superstar full-forward who kicked 727 goals in a grand career, has labelled Lance Franklin's match-winning pair against Essendon on Friday night as the best he has ever seen. Hudson last night told The Sunday Age he couldn't believe what he had just witnessed when Franklin twice burned off opponents with enthralling runs down the MCG wing and into the attacking 50 before drilling inspirational goals from near the boundary line. Scores were tied when Franklin drilled the first and the Hawks were on the ropes when he conjured more magic six minutes later. ''I would say I don't think I have ever seen better. They were two fantastic goals,'' Hudson said. ''When you consider where they came in the context of the game, they were magnificent. They were match-winning, team-lifting goals. The distance he ran on both occasions, and he had to be able to kick them, was just incredible.'' And what would ex champions of the game know??? Its just their opinions. The contrasting goals given by Brettmcg are great goals. But Franklin's 2nd goal after his heroics six minutes are as good as anything I have seen. To do what he did and to kick the goal from where he did is better than any other goals put up. Stunning performance. People need to take off the red and blue goggles sometimes and realise the enormity of the performance.
  25. Well done. Knee jerk thinking at its finest. Trust it was a big night out.
