  1. I could think of nothing worse than Junior potentially finishing in the same vein as Neitz, Yze or White. Either their bodies had passed their use by date or the game had passed them by and they were performing cameos in the VFL. I thought the evidence of Western Bulldogs (Johnson and Aker) and Adelaide (McLeod, Goodwin and Edwards) was compelling. Their decline on the injury or form lists is a sadder ending than the way Junior is finishing. MFC is not a charity. Decisions must be made for the betterment of the team not to the suit the individual. Junior would be the last footballer that would want that. A sensible decision for the Club to make.
  2. Thought that too. Interesting. Hmmmm Fair summary Jack.
  3. They kept the only one that was up to AFL football in Fletcher. Lucas was finished. Lloyd was too. They would have been worse off this year had they played. Lucas would have been at Bendigo. Lloyd would have missed the first six weeks on suspension from the prior year and he was iffy at this level.
  4. The Club has the right and the obligation to make assessments of each player and where they stand in regard the following year. It is a credit to the Club that had the foresight and judgement with the communication to advise a player like Junior that he would struggle for selection in 2011. They have to make the right decisions by the Club. No player is bigger than the Club and Junior would know that. The timing of it is fine allowing Junior the chance to have a send off game in Melbourne.
  5. I think you can get away with six rucks in the short term. Five in the longer term. And MFC always seemes to have a ruckman on the LTI list. I hope no fills Meesen's shoes next year!
  6. Apologies. I misread your post. I was thinking Green too when you mentioned point 1. B)
  7. Have you considered that if PJ gets one year then MFC may still elevate Spencer? If Wolfmother is correct and I think Spencer will be elevated then it may not be good for PJ. I dont think your example of StKilda's bad deal provides any validation that Richmond would do such a deal. One bad deal does beget another. And I not sure pick 51 provides any bargaining chip whatsover.
  8. Agree. A sensible decision all around. A fantastic player for the Club. A wonderful story coming off the rookie list and to achieve what he did. Pure class. I endorse all the other accolades that will be bestowed on him. A champion of the Club.
  9. Yes. It is certainly a big stigma and a huge sense of shame for those sides that gave the first win in the AFL to Brisbane, Sydney, West Coast, Freo, Adelaide and Port Adelaide.....who ever they were.
  10. Newton and Meesen are on the rookie list and deleting them there does create spots on the main list. If you are going to elevate 2 rookies (Jordie and Spencer) and you want to take 4 players off the list to allow you to at least have the first 2 picks in the draft. Bell, Miller, Tmac(?), PJ(?) Obviously we might be able to trade for low picks we dont want but I am not holding out for that one. I am not sure elevating Green to replace JMac on the vet list creates an actual spot on your main list. It only assists in bringing on additions to the rookie list. Hughes is gone. He cant be re rookied as MFC has special dispensation from the AFL to rookie him the last time.
  11. 3aw were adamant that comments from Brown's manager and cryptically from Clarkson was that Brown will announce he is going to GC. According to Bruce he is keen to finish his career (1 or 2 years left at MFC). Medhurst...they would be kidding. Aside from Harbrow and Rischetelli, the others are questionable recruits. Morton was out injured co incidentally earlier in the year.
  12. Why the wholesale spring clean of all our defensive depth??? Warnock is a keeper for mine. Cheney and McNamara will have little trade value. We will probably keep Cheney who is contracted in 2011 and McNamara (but he is a chance to be delisted. All the more reason to move him on. I dont want fantastic depth players who are tweeners that do well in the VFL but dont have the skills to elevate to the AFL. I note you rank Cheney 8th in the defence set up. You should include Bruce to make Cheney 9th. Tells a story. Bartram is underrated and some of the posts on this thread validate that. They play different roles. Bartram takes the small forward. MacDonald takes that mid size forwards. In form both have spots in side.
  13. It was just in his early years he was reluctant to take a forward step when necessary. Welcome back Freak. Nathan Bock is off to GC. He is apparently on a good contract. Was the house meant for Ablett jnr bought for Bock?
  14. According to ID, he has a contract in 2011. You got ask the same question about Newton though. We dont have a player who plays the small defender role better than Bartram. He has been very good this year. And another posters showed some stats revealing that his ineffective disposals rank in 23rd the Club. A bad case of letting your perception cloud the reality. And you would cut Spencer and Bartram but keep a crock in Meesen. Amazing list management.
  15. Well said HT. I agree he should go out on top. I would hate to see that Juniors position is in doubt in 2011 and find no solace having him run around at Casey. We beat Sydney without Moloney and Junior in the side. And it not solely on his terms whether he goes on or not. The Club and Junior will surely come to the sensible decision.
  16. On a risk return basis I would have thought Molan and Nick Smith were worse given we gave 1st round picks. Similiar outcomes just a higher price paid.
  17. Good post Hoopla. Knocked a few issues on the head there.
  18. It does indicate the likelihood of picking up a good player or not as opposed to directing what sort of player you should select using a particular draft choice. Well done! You missed the point again.
  19. I agree with your assessment. However, what we do know is that PJ cant lead a ruck division with serious question marks about what he brings to the side as a 2nd ruck. Its line ball whether we keep PJ. We probably will but its hardly a vote of confidence in him. More a realisation of where our ruck stocks are.
  20. Just play the best team. Suggestions otherwise are a tad precious.
  21. We could have a prospective ruckman who has the physical frame to cope with AFL. What does six years of chronic injuries tell you? A ruckman with chronic leg injuries is an absolute no go zone. The spot Meesen takes up deprives us of a young rookie that has a prospect of making it. And even if he were to stay on the RL (he wont), he will be on a paupers salary. This is the easiest "hard" call you would ever have to make.
  22. MFC have front loaded contracts such they we fully use up our salary cap this year with room to engineer for future years.
