  1. Now I'm not a huge O Mac fan, but is a "giveaway" any worse than missing a set shot for goal from 40m or closer? In the same light, many posters have brought up ANB's giveaway on the weekend, but failed to mention all the individuals who missed regulation set shots.
  2. Just have a look at what happened to Port Adelaide when they got Paddy Ryder. Lobbe was a pure ruckman, and Ryder played his best footy at Essendon in the ruck. Lobbe's form dropped dramtically, and Ryder had little impact as a forward/ruckman. Kreuzer is a skillful footballer, but he's a ruckman/forward not a forward/ruckman. If we got a forward ruckman, it would be at the expense of Weidemann. If they both played, Hogan would have to play up the ground more, and I think that it would be to the detriment of the team.
  3. And it was a fair question. During the JLT series, Melksham, Hunt and Wagner were playing as small/medium defenders, whilst Jetta was on the sidelines. Wagner got injured, and Jetta walked straight back in. Nobody on Demonland would know whether Goodwin had a preference for Jetta ahead of any of the other 3, just as nobody had any idea that Hannan was in Goodwin's plans.
  4. Like the Petracca v McCartin thead, it only gets brought up after our player comes off a good game, whilst the opposition player has either been dropped or out injured. Lewis Jetta had a massive impact in a premiership team, whilst Neville Jetta has been a solid AFL player after being delisted and rookied. If you look at their careers, you'd probably be shocked to see that Lewis has played 20 or more games in a season 5 times, whilst Neville has only done it once. And Lewis has done that in a side that's consistently played in finals. It's a no brainer, Lewis has had the far superior career to date.
  5. Heretier Lumumba announced that he was the Messiah.
  6. Definitely "Bull". Bob Murphy rated his beard no. 1 in VFL/AFL history:
  7. Our last "Bull" went alright. Garry "Bull" Baker won a B&F.
  8. I was an avid follower of the VFA, and Kim Smith was a star. We were devoid of success, so I hoped that he'd be our saviour. It was not to be.
  9. Does anyone remember Kim Smith who played for the Dees in the mid 70's. He was a prolific goalkicker for Prahran in the old VFA, and was recruited by the Dees. Only lasted one season, before heading back to Prahran. Tim is following a similar path to Kim, but hopefully has a more distinguished career.
  10. Hannan should stay. He did exactly what was asked of Watts the previous week. He flew for pack marks and created a spillage. He wasn't able to clunk any, but his efforts should be recognised by the coaches. I also thought that our players were too Hogan conscious when going forward. Hannan and others in better position were ignored. If Kent comes in, it's for Brayshaw or Melksham. Melksham has suspect skills, and Brayshaw was off the boil last week.
  11. Harmes?, you've got to be joking. When the game was on the line, he was probably our best player in the last quarter. ANB's workrate and forward pressure over both games will be rewarded, and he shouldn't get dropped. Frost is underdone, and won't be considered. If you want Kent and Smith in the team, Melksham should be the one to make way.
  12. Sounds good in theory, but suicidal if the ball is in Geelong's forward line. Most teams would set up a zone exactly where you suggest the ball would end. A 5m tap to a running mid makes more sense.
  13. That's only if Lever nominates Carlton as his preferred destination. Plus the Blues seem to be well stocked with young key backs, such as Marchbank and Plowman. They need quality mids more than anything.
  14. Steve, It's fair to say that clubs have started sowing the seeds for potential trade acquisitions. Lever does address a need, regardless of how the season pans out, and now is time to get into his ear. Convincing the player is 99% of the battle, because history will tell you that 99% of of uncontracted players will end up at their preferred destination. Suggesting trade scenarios is a pointless excercise at this time because we don't know what currency either party will have by the end of the season. Having said that, I'd trade like for like: Lever => Lumumba and Garland
  15. He's the best kick at the club on both right and left, and now gets to showcase his class. Interestingly enough, a lot of posters on here thought that he'd struggle to get a game when the "New Wave" of midfielders came along from 2008-2010. Jones actually flourished under Neeld's coaching.
  16. Webber, You are seriously overrating Spencer as a footballer. His skill level doesn't warrant any club recruiting him as a no.1 ruckman. If you watched the VFL finals, he was barely VFL level, and got touched up by Minson and Campbell in the GF. As far as the Geelong game goes, Geelong stopped competing in the ruck against North, which left them with an additional player at stoppages. They'll do the same if Gawn dominates, so it's pointless picking Spencer as an additional ruckman.
  17. I agree. With Lonergan, Taylor and Mackie in their backline, it's pointless trying to beat the Cats in the air or allow them to play an 8 man backline against our 6 forwards. As with the Saints, we need to lower our eyes and hit short leading targets. Playing Spencer would be utter stupidity. Petracca should start deeper, and used in a Hogan role. ANB tags Touhy, and the Cats don't have much run out of the backline. I watched the entire North game, and the Cats backline looked slow.
  18. The moral of the story is don't put yourself in a position to be assessed by Chook Lotto (MRP).
  19. As much as I love Oliver, Williams was infinitely better by foot than Clarry with both right and left, and was possibly the greatest exponent of handball. If he ends up a cut above Williams, Oliver will be the greatest midfielder in the history of the AFL.
  20. What I find disturbing is that the Vince, Hogan and Lewis incidents were all highlighted as being likely to be reviewed by the MRP on the AFL's own website. The AFL will argue that the MRP panel are an independent body, which we all know to be a load of croc.
  21. "Elite" should only apply to sustained greatness over several seasons. Having a great 12 months doesn't make you elite. The Bont has the potential to become elite.
  22. I think it's a case of most elite key forwards come from inside the top 10, elite mids less so and elite ruckmen never. The term elite can be overused, and was discussed on radio this morning. Hutchy tried to say that Bont was elite, but Liam Pickering rightfully shot him down, by saying he's potentially elite. Pickering then went on to naming the players he thought were currently elite, and I think he was spot on: Dangerfield, Selwood, Fyfe, Ablett, Franklin, Pendlebury, Rance, S. Mitchell, N. Reiwoldt
  23. If McCartin can get his body right, I think he's got greater agility than the likes of Tom Boyd and Patton. I didn't see the Geel/Freo game last week, but some were saying that Tom Hawkins looks like he's trimmed down, and covered a lot more ground than in the past.
