You're kidding right? At 193cm, JVR has no potential as a ruckman in the future, and it showed last week.
-
Reilly O'Brien has a big tank. Plays 85-90% game time most weeks. Whoever plays 1st ruck if Jako is out needs to see themselves as a ruck rover. Weid should be given the role and just be active around the contests. Prior to doing his ACL, Tomlinson was the ideal choice, but he looks immobile since returning. I think Mitch Brown comes in, and he and Ben share 2nd duties.
-
I questioned the decision to play JVR as 2nd ruck for Casey last week. If either Mitch Brown or Tomlinson play the role in Jackson's absence, it makes the decision even more ridiculous.
-
Whenever I watch Gus n Gawny I'm convinced that Gus will stay. He's so emotionally invested in the club, and Goody seems to understand what he means to the club.
-
Also goes by the nickname Max as explained on Gus n Gawny. Very funny story.
-
Nathan Bassett and Fabian Francis. They may not be big names but your whole premise is nonsensical.
-
And will be covering the ground better than ever thanks to the scooter he's riding.
-
I don't buy the argument that the EBA is holding things up. Jako could easily commit to the club, and just say that the details have to be finalised. Goody's comments suggest that there is no commitment from Jackson to re-sign.
-
My take is that Gus wants to stay depending on the offer. He jokingly let slip on Gus n Gawny a couple of months ago that he'd have to wait till Jako is signed, meaning his offer will depend on Jako's decision and terms. If Gus re-signs prior to the finals, my take is that the club knows Jako is leaving, and will give Gus a healthy contract.

Did you watch the game? JVR was non competitive as a ruckman. And to answer your question, Ben Brown wound 2nd ruck, and either Mitch Brown or JVR would come in as key forward. IMO Mitch Brown should have played 2nd ruck for Casey, and JVR key forward.
-
JVR was cramping early in the last qtr. It's mind boggling that he's playing 2nd ruck at Casey. There's been a spate of ruckmen getting injured this year, so why take an undue risk with our thoroughbred colt. Despite the massive win, the only Melbourne listed players who put up their hand for selection were Chandler, Hunt and Brown. Riv was very disappointing.
-
I'm assuming this is all guess work. He may well be close friends with Trent, but his closest circle of friends are in Perth. Rivers returned to Melbourne after the GF to be with his girlfriend. Jackson hung out in Perth with his mates.

I like the suggestion of Petty up forward in T Mac's absence. At least he'll make a contest unlike Weid. He showed a bit as a forward in 2019. I'm not a fan of Tomlinson, and whilst others were glowing in praise of his Casey performances, I thought he got caught out of position too often. However, with May back in the team marshalling the backs, hopefully Tomlinson will be more disciplined. I wouldn't mind seeing Disco Turner given a shot. I don't think he'd be overawed.
-
Weid has been given a consistent go last year and this year, and has been an abject failure. He offers nothing.
-
Unless we change our gameplan, bringing Weid in is pointless. T. Mac's role is understated, and Weid has demonstrated that he's incapable of playing it. Maybe it's time to shift Petty to CHF, and keep Tomlinson in the team. As for the changes, May comes in for one of the Browns.
-
Said from the comfort of your warm chair. Poor form.
-
Assuming that Tmac is done for the year and aside from May, I don't see anyone who is out of the side making any difference. Weid, Bedford, Dunston, Chandler, Hibberd will not turn things around. If Goody wasn't concerned when we weren't putting teams to the sword earlier in the year, he should be now. Two weeks in a row we've given up 4-5 goal leads, so maybe the players are believing their own publicity. Max and Viney couldn't have done anymore, but our other leaders like Lever, Oliver and Petracca need to lift their games.
-
It will go straight to the tribunal. He should get 3-4.
-
Fantastic listen. Dylan Buckley does a great job of letting the guest speak, and his guests seem to open up to him.
-
Frankston are the Dolphins. Williamstown are the Seagulls. Missed the 1st qtr. The tackling and smothering by the Dees has been fantastic. One particular smother by Woey was incredible, and led to a goal. Mitch Brown doing what is expected by our key forwards, and is leading up and hitting the packs. Hibbo looks like he needs the run. Tommo stills worries me cause he gets caught out of position at times. Best for Dees has been Casey players Munro and Grey. Pretty even contribution by Melbourne listed players.
-
The clock stops when the ball goes out of bounce, and a 50 can be paid. The siren sounding is irrelevant.
-
T Mac offers so much more than Weid, so it's not a like-for-like replacement.
-
For starters, we still have Salem and Hibberd to potentially come in. Gus or Bowey could move to a flankers role, and JJ and ANB could play inside mid. And some of us (including the coaching panel) rate Dunstan and Melksham. Secondly, there's no guarantee that your late midseason draft pick will be any better than some of our untried rooks playing at Casey. And your idea of pensioning off a player like Hibberd is mind boggling.

2022 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
mo64 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
KC, I noticed that Jack Bell has nominated for the MSD. I hope nobody takes him because I think he's got great potential, and would love to see us pick him up with a late pick in the ND, or as a rookie. He might go unnoticed because he's playing 2nd ruck to Daw. -
Whilst I agree that he's not ready for senior footy, I think he does show enough AFL traits to suggest he could be an AFL player. He needs to improve his defensive game, and get more involved at VFL level on a consistent basis. Goody mentioned in his presser that we have players at Casey that no-one has heard of, who they believe will make it with development, and used Jordon and Sparrow as examples. The players that came to mind are Laurie, Moniz-Wakefield, Deakyn Smith, Woey, Turner and Rosman. I didn't include JVR because he's a high draft pick, and everyone would be aware of him.
