  1. Again, if we drop him who do you replace him with? May, lever, petty, hore?? Because none of them were available. We lost because we couldn't convert up forward, it's as easy as that. World I prefer a backline with may, lever, Jetta, hore in it, of course but I'm not having a go at the backline for this loss
  2. For a lot on here it's just easier to blame the whipping boy then acknowledge the true cause of the result
  3. You didn't answer the question, may, lever, petty and hore were not available so who would you play instead. And we kicked 1.8 in the last and your blaming Oscar for it??? The forwards lost this game but our backs. Tmac, Hannan, garlett were much worse then omac
  4. Seriously??? And play who? May was coming back from injury, lever, hore and petty were out. Plus at least he didn't turn the ball over every time he had it out of defence. He was no where near the reason we lost tonight, 1.8 in the last and stupid decisions going forward were
  5. I think Frost has a lot of good weapons, but it's being able to trust him each week that is an issue. Some call them brain fades, but it's his lack of awareness and footy IQ that's his biggest issue. However, given a job or surrounding him with quality leaders can overcome that and make him a better player. I actually could see OMac playing fullback (with May, Hore and Lever in front of him in a zone, so not on specific players), while Frost either has a shut down role on a tall or even goes forward to tag players like Rance, McGovern etc. being told to stick with them, compete in the air but then take off out the back and either drag them away from the play or try and sneak in a goal or 2 getting separation with his speed.
  6. Really does offer some insight into what's happened this year. While other teams have been hit with injuries, and the Tigers, Collingwood etc. are mentioned as covering their injuries fairly well, we are not only missing best 22 but also those fringe 22 guys who would replace them. The thought that you need at least 30 good AFL players on a list is right, but they need to be ready to play, we've had 6/7 at VFL level for a while and really some of those are 1st year players who shouldn't in normal circumstances get close to a game.
  7. Frost is an athlete more than a footballer, however he has improved his football over the last 4 or 5 weeks. Blicavs at Geelong was similar, then really thrived when he was given a set job each week and eventually he became a good footballer not just a gifted athlete. I'm hoping Frost can do the same, I agree they will only get better with better players around them but if Frost continues to lose where the ball is or run off his man and get caught in-between the play then I'm afraid the better players could lose trust in him.
  8. Possibly, I wasn't advocating 1 over the other, just pointing out that Frost has some major flaws that won't mean he's the automatic pick others think. Playing to the game-plan we have ran with over the last few years we'd normally have 1 tall defender as the deeper player with the others forming a zone. May said when he joined he played best when he knew he had Rory Thompson sitting back behind him. While Frost has improved dramatically in doing this, he still gets caught out knowing when to go to the ball and when to stay on his man, which has cost a lot of shots on goal this year.
  9. Ironically the guy who GWS picked with 23 ended up on our list (Pat McKenna).
  10. As WWSW said, it's all about value. Frost is currently worth something and isn't contracted. OMac, Hore and Petty are contracted, they are all younger that Frost as well so should have some development in them. We've played much of the year with 2 talls and Hore, so it might be seen that when May and Lever come back there's 4 guys looking at 1 spot, so they could move on 1 of them.
  11. I could see Frost being trade bait. If May and Lever come back and play the way we know they can, we'd then have Frost, Hore, OMac & Petty fighting for what could be only 1 or 2 spots a week. Given the other 3 are contracted for next year and all younger it might be that we look at what we could get for him? The only certainties I see of the out of contracted players are - Frost (if not traded) Weid, Lockhart, Baker, Bradtke & ANB. Jones, Stretch, JSmith, Dunkley & Chandler are more than likely to get another go, while Garlett, Lewis, Maynard, TSmith are likely to be gone and the other might have to wait right until the last list date to see if we still have spots.
  12. That's correct, unless he gets a good run in the second half of the year, other teams will have no reason to pursue him. Doubt he'd even get a go as a delisted free agent because he's only played the 11 games but been injured in a couple of those as well. plus he didn't come through the junior pathways so hasn't got that to fall back on. I think he'll stay and they'll patch things up with his old man, just hoping he can get a decent run at it because I think there's a fair bit he can add to the team.
  13. No not talking about the last 5 minutes of the GWS game at all. He does it at least 3 or 4 times a game, even the commentators mentioned it during the 2nd quarter from memory, for all the improvement this year with tackling, attack on the ball etc. he still gets caught in no-mans land a few times a game. Blaming Oscar is a cop out, there's been plenty of times on here Oscar has been blamed for not spoiling strong enough or putting body on an opponent when in fact he's been coming across to cover for when Frost has gotten lost again, but I was just pointing out, Frost has a major flaw with his footy IQ which means when May and Lever come back he's not the walk up start most people on here think. I can see a process where it might be May/Lever/Jetta/Salem/relieving mid (Lewis/Jones/KK etc.) plus 2 of Hore/Frost/OMac/Petty depending on match ups, but none of those are certainties once we have our best team on the park, at this stage I'd have Hore in most weeks but that last position could depend on match ups.
  14. Strange post. May is injured, and when fully fit is a significantly better player than Frost. He's proven that over a number of seasons. He'll come back in not because of Goody's bias but because he should. I don't know if he'll replace Frost. Lever is one of the better defenders in the comp, and could be in discussions around the top 2 or 3 if he didn't injure his knee. Hore has done well, and could also co-exist in the same backline, but I'd be picking Lever and May over Hore and Frost if that was the only choice, to be honest there's every chance all 4 will play together. I do worry about Frost and his footy nous, too often he gets caught in-between, either running at the player with the ball with no hope of getting there or stopping and running back to his man who he can't get too. He's not necessarily covering other guys, just makes a dumb nothing decision.
  15. See absolutely no point in this unless you want us to tank each yeah and the highlight being the draft? Max King was pick 4, way earlier than any pick we had. Everyone on here was celebrating that we got May for Hogan when he left, because we were trying to win the comp. Howe wanted to leave to play forward, turns out we had it right that his best position was down back. We let Dunn leave as we needed to evolve and the game plan wasn't really suited to him anymore, if Lever and May were fit then there wouldn't be a position for him anyway. We've copped a horrible run with injuries, that's a fact, not just to our best players but also to our fringe depth. Makes it hard to stay competitive when we've only had 30 to choose from and I suspect some have been playing when they would have been given breaks.
  16. The Swans are a pretty ordinary side this year, so I wouldn't take to much notice of them plus they don't have a lot of run out of their back half. GWS does, if we go tall against them up forward they could kill us on the spread because Davis as Hayes can and will run off their man to link up field. We were easy to score against in the early rounds and have fixed that lately but going too tall forward could hurt us again
  17. You're right It all comes down to the right structure, we had that for 3 quarters in Friday, until the injuries. Bombing long to Preuss goes back to the early rounds, it didn't work then and I doubt it'll work against GWS. If tmac goes up field their likely to put tomilison on him allowing their backs to stay together, so Hayes will still kill us. The only way I see it possible that we play Preuss is if we drop one off the tall defenders and keep tsmith to do that offensive tagging role but then worry about their spread going so tall
  18. Your speaking like GWS will just blinding follow our game plan and will just sit Davis on Preuss because we want them too. Preuss might have kicked a few goals in his first few games however he is not Lockett, Buddy or Carey. They'll play off him at every opportunity with Haynes more than able to match TMac in moving around the ground but also getting back quicker. I'd prefer to see someone make Haynes accountable rather then have a top heavy forward line which gets killed on the way out. I don't think GWS is the right team to play Preuss as that stay at home foward, unless TSmith is out with injury, the we don't have much of a choice.
  19. I can completely see why they went with Smith over Preuss against West Coast, Smith played directly on McGovern and held him completely accountable until he got knocked out. Preuss wouldn't have been able to do that, he's just not type of player, and I don't think we could have risked having another tall in the team (choosing an extra tall down back as well). I think the luxury of having a good attacking ruck/forward means you can bring him in as needs, unless he's in blinding form. I could see him not getting picked this week as Haynes also should be manned up, assuming Davis goes to TMac. So more tall backlines with good interceptors like WCE, GWS, Rich (with Rance), Col etc. Preuss might be left out while when we want to go taller against less expansive talls he becomes a big asset.
  20. Goody actually coached well last night, shut down McGovern until we ran out of players, they couldn't get any free movement and had we finished better we could have won by a fair margin. Harsh call on ANB given he barely played a third of the game
  21. Max got a similar one in the second so it was consistent at least, no reason for Frost to make contact like that though. Couldn't believe Kennedy didn't get one paid against him when he flew over omac but didn't get near the ball, that's been paid all year. Gave him the chance to run forward and kick a goal
  22. Smith kept McGovern really quite for the first 3 quarters but he dominated the last when he could roam free. Think goody actually made the right call, can't help Smith going down.
  23. Omac very good all game, a lot on here will call for him to be dropped but he was very strong tonight. Tmac had a great first half then looked like he thought he was on and forgot he had to try, should have kicked 5
  24. Hunt was awesome, playing a role that really suits him. Frost really horrible, his 1 or 2 good things doesn't take away from all the goals he cost us.
  25. I heard that one of Gold Coasts tactics were to ensure there are repeat stoppages at the center bounce, with Witts looking to tap the ball down to a contest as opposed to away to a team mate. Not sure if the stats back this up by I've noticed the ball takes a lot longer to get out of the middle now, so have coaches tried too hard to negate 6-6-6 that it's tying up the game?
