  1. Can't judge a player under Neeld.

    Players I think would have continued well with the MFC if Bailey had stayed and Neeld was not such a terrible demotivating coach (and Schwab hadn't been so vindictive);

    Morton

    Gysberts

    Jurrah

    Wona

    Rivers

    Moloney

    Petterd

    Green

I honestly think this to be the case. This is why we need a priority pick. With the players above we are competing with Nth this week. The perceptions of these players under Neeld can not be taken seriously. I saw enough in all the above to think they had what it took to be on our list. Morton was frustrating as hell but he had talent and with a good coach will move forward.

    Players who I think would not have made it regardless;

    Lucas Cook

    Matthew Bate

    Jamie Bennell

    etc.

    You're trippin balls, brah.

  2. I wish I could be as gracious as you lot.

I see a bloke we spent pick 4 on and, despite his talent, did not give anywhere near his best for the jumper and refused to get hurt. As a result he contributed to many losses and clogged a spot on our list for 5 years.

Not his biggest fan that's for sure.

He was terribly managed, developed poorly and didn't choose himself.

The blame should lie with Barry Prendergast, the coaching department at the time, and those that employed them.

  3. I'm just interested on thoughts, but why would Paul Roos be a better get than say a Choco or an Eade who we would have to pay half as much money?

    Half as much money? Really??

Have you been putting too much faith in people like Jon Ralph?

Where did you get this info?

    Cos it's wrong.

  4. Seems to be quite a few posters with comprehension issues in this thread.

I never said I'd trade Fitzpatrick straight up for Cross.

I just think he'd be a valuable addition to our club if we were to trade with the dogs, so I'd like to see him included.

I've no knowledge of his FA status.

  5. I've noticed Watts rucking the past few weeks.

I imagine its a temporary measure, but the end desired effect is actually to toughen Watts up in the air, and I think it is working.

He seems more comfortable with contact to me.

Re: Fitzy's kicking, satyriconhome, you gotta be joking.

He has improved but it is still poor, especially field kicking.

Playing him on a wing where he is expected to deliver the ball neatly to his teammates would be foolhardy.

I expect teams like Carlton and the Dogs to have a crack at enticing Fitzy away from us, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

I think he is close to reaching peak value.

I'd like to bring across Daniel Cross if possible.

A continued injury run for Clark may put this in jeopardy, but I expect him to make a full recovery.

  6. The poor kid's initial reaction was to blamed himself for Neeld's sacking.

He felt his limited output thus far contributed to it.

That care factor, and placing the responsibility on himself rather than looking for scapegoats, holds him in very good stead.

  7. Thank you very much. This usually means you are soft does it not?Thank god someone else can see it

    Big man.

Pretty quick to make outlandish claims about a kid, then feverishly try to back it up at every opportunity so you can feel justified.

You'll be the one looking stupid in time, if you don't already.

  8. I'm very wary of Stockdale.

Insisting on his own ticket, making divisive noises, and singing directly from Jeff Kennett's hymn book.

At this point in time, I support anyone who is capable and willing to collaborate with the others already in place for the good of the club, rather than anyone coming in making demands.

  9. Just watched a recording of OTC.

I noticed that the first thing that Paul Roos said was that he had a chat with Peter Jackson and discussed SOME ISSUES.

I would be interested in knowing what these ISSUES might be and whether they needed to be addressed before he would consider the job.

Who knows, maybe we're all clutching at straws.

Issues? What would PJ be discussing issues with Roos?

They should have been discussing whether Roos was interested in the job or not.

    What sort of issues?

Maybe the sort of issues that need to be sorted out before he will accept the job..?

As for not accepting, Roos will play this out until after the season, probably until after we get some sort of draft concession.

It's in the AFL's interest too - for it to appear that we needed the assistance, and it enticed Roos to accept the position.

Otherwise it looks like Roos dictating terms to the AFL.

    We live in hope.

  10. I think I can beat that. A Melbourne supporting friend who is usually particularly cluey thought Fergus and Jack Watts were brothers

I think Fergus does have a brother Jack, but he's just not our Jack Watts.

    Playing ammos maybe?

  11. The highest pick Geelong has had in the past 19 years is Pick 7. And they are enormously respected because of it.

There is enough young talent in thIs list, combined with what we will get through traditional means, for the club to make a push up the ladder, as long as we get the fundamentals, the actual cause of where we are, corrected.

The AFL will be proving financial assistance, rumoured to also be bankrolling our next coach, and we supposedly need draft assistance as well? Anything else while we're at it? Maybe Pendlebury, Selwood and Dangerfield, plus a Nike sponsorship deal?

Those who have arrogantly dismissed anyone who DARE question us getting a priority pick should prepare themselves for disappointment. The club however will survive, either way.

Geelong didn't make Selwood what he is, he was that way when he came to the club and fell in the draft order due to dodgy knees.

The Cats' 2 other best players of the era, Scarlett and Ablett, were father-son picks.

They get respect, but there are mitigating circumstances.

  12. I have a thousand dollars for you as a present. Oh you don't want it because you are too proud. No worries I will give it to someone else.

How is getting a top player as a bonus, not a sustainable way to success? I am just staggered at people who wouldn't accept a bonus top player. Obviously they are not recruiting people.

Maybe Hawthorn should release Franklin and Collingwood should release Pendlebury, since they were priority picks and their "successful culture" demands that they compete without them.
