  1. I get the impression Roos is genuinely holding off as he is saying publicly, because he wants to see that Jackson will get the right people in all the right places before committing.

That, and he wants the AFL to announce we have received the requisite funding and priority pick he is now campaigning for.

Something has to change, for him to want to coach Melbourne.

And that is for Melbourne to be set up so that the incoming coach can succeed.

As such, there will be no decision until season's end.

Being our number one target, and with other coaches unable to be interviewed until season's end, we'll wait.

Jackson's MO is now to get the rest of the club in top condition.

  2. I'd give Stephen Wells, Brian Cook and Neil Balme more credit than Mark Thompson.

Wells for bringing the talent in, and Cook and Balme for setting up a support structure to develop that talent.

Thompson isn't a terrible coach, but he was fortunate in the same way Chris Scott is now.

I can't recall Bomba making any genius tactical moves that swung matches.

He didn't get blood from a stone in the way Ross Lyon can.

The culture was driven by the players.

  3. I'm so confused around the structures at the club I have no idea if what PJ is doing is right or not. When Craig came to the club and was given his title the MFC attempted to explain his role/duties on the club website. I was baffled then and still are. Was Vineys role different to Harringtons? Is anyone doing Craig's role now his is interm Head Coach? Who were the 4 employees reporting to CS? I was under the impression that Craig reported directly to the board to minimise CS's influence over the FD. This was reported after 186 and when Craig was appointed

Craig may have been reporting directly to the board, but I don't think anyone was reporting to him.

He was only there as a "mentor" - that's my understanding, at least.

It's the fuzzy logic and indirect reporting lines that lead to the inefficiency we've displayed as a football club.

I can only assume Schwab was trying to give the appearance of staying out of the footy dept, so he could assume the role of GMFO that he really coveted, along with CEO.

Otherwise, there's no logic for why he'd set up such a snakes and ladders organisational structure.

  4. Does anyone know the ruling on interviewing potential candidates ie: Eade & Williams while they are still working for other clubs??

Do we have to wait until their respective teams are finished for the yr?

Thought I heard of this new rule coming in????

Yes, we have to wait until the season finishes before strictly "interviewing", but we can speak to their agent and give them a call for a chat.

  5. Finally, since no one else has made the connection yet:

Misson was poached from St Kilda, where he had an excellent record with managing players' fitness.

A club he moved to when his wife was offered a lucrative position in Melbourne, after an equally successful stint at... Sydney.

Under the Paul Roos regime, where they won a flag.

And also developed player fitness management software package that was sold to other sporting organisations, such as Manchester United.

It's fair to say Roos and Misson have a good working relationship where they have a history of achieving success.

  6. Craig also said he was not interested in the GMFO position.

He even went as far as in his most recent presser sarcastically asking the media throng if they thought he'd be a good fit for that position.

    Clearly he doesn't.

Nor do those in the know.

He wants to teach and guide players and/or coaches, not run the footy dept.

  7. First Stockdale won't be President, l hope your right with the other board members though. I have a feeling Brown and Rawlings are on contracts for next year.

Secondly, Jackson and the AFL have spoken of a more compact board with less members - 4 was the number, I think.

Easier and quicker to assemble the board for quick and effective decision making.
