  1. Is Cale a long kicking driver out of half back?

I have him more for the Embley role - wide running, wingman, rebound receiver.

That's the role I see him playing for the Eagles.

Loose footy driving the ball forward with long kicks.

Maybe a bit of the Embley role too.

  2. Geelong's highest pick in 17 years in pick 7. You all heard that stat yesterday.

The priority pick is condescending, pointless and anti-competitive. It is going to put this team in no better position in 5 years than not having it would.

It's not the answer, but when you find the answer, it makes your ascension up the ladder that much greater.

  3. Interesting that Rodan, who leads bounces for the MFC and is 4th in clearances, goal assists, tackles and 5th in contested possessions, is dropped, while my "favourite", Byrnes, remains in the side. This has to be his swan song.

Rodan is just far too unpredictable to his teammates, especially forwards ahead of him trying to lead for him.

Next time you see him with the ball, imagine being a forward ahead trying to lead for him.

It'd be a nightmare, with all his stutter steps, jukes, twisting and turning.

    I'd hate playing with him.

  4. I'd prefer he is moved on, but I watched him put in yesterday.

He's not smart enough, good enough, or a good enough leader to persevere with, unless there is minimal cost in keeping him.

Having said that, he chased, harder than I've seen for a while (bar the last 2 weeks) and laid some hard tackles.

He wasn't great, but was hardly terrible in a side getting smashed.

    I'm not an apologist.

I just don't criticise where it is unwarranted, and you seem the least qualified person in this thread to comment.

You weren't there, and you're relying in factually inaccurate stats sheet.

You. Do. Not. Know. What. You. Are. Talking. About.

  5. This obsession with the priority pick is exactly what's wrong with our club.

It's not an obsession with a priority pick, it's an interest in forward planning, since its one of the few things we as supporters have to look forward to, that will have an influence on the club's success.

Our season is pretty much over, bar the opportunity for development.

The fact our season is pretty much over is exactly what's wrong with our club.

Don't confuse the interests and fantasising of supporters as being inherent within club culture.

It could've been the problem in recent history though, as I consider Schwab to have been a supporter who held an integral position at the club, not being able to help himself getting involved where his capabilities and title dictate that he shouldn't.

Not an issue now though, since he is gone.

  6. no, a strong coach wouldn't.

a strong coach would work with him to get the best out of him.

that's the sort of negative feedback that mark neeld goes in for.

the leading teams worldview has a hell of a lot to answer for; if implemented correctly it can work well, but if it's done poorly...

Only if you don't understand how to do it in a constructive way, rather than negative.

  7. You think a player who does that wrong thing shouldn't be pulled up for it?

Examples shouldn't be made to the group?

Demands for better performances should cease?

There's a way of doing it that would get results.

Neeld's way was not that way.

It's exactly what a strong coach would do.

  8. I think the compulsory year in the 2s is rather enticing for clubs as it eases the development process.

Clem Smith looks a good bet.

    Lachie Weller also.

Not sure who else is in that bracket, but the chance to pinch the prospective number 1 pick of next year on the relative cheap, is hard to pass up.

As for Voss and McCartney's whingeing, the Lions beat Geelong and the Dogs suffered a narrow loss.

    They can GAGF.

  9. You expressed it so well Jrmac

Thats the point isnt it Senior leadership missing from players like Silvia

We will take money form younger players with more upside to pay precious Col more. I tell you what If he wants to stay so much accpt a performance based contract

See how keen he really is. And if he earns a million dollars I will the first to congratulate him and cheer him

Unless the coach admonishes him infront of the other players for weak efforts and incessantly demands more.

A strong coach would do that.

  10. You're out of your depth.

You Even thought he had no tackles.

    You've got no clue.

Try going to a game instead of looking at a stat sheet for once.

I still want him gone, but only a fool would single out Sylvia after today.

  11. Give one reason apart from money why he would coach us, that club is an absolute basket case, they make Port look like they have a bright future, its pathetic, all those draft picks, debt paid off and this garbage they still serve up after 7 years, how can you gets kids to follow this rabble.

    How about the challenge?

    Growing his legacy?

The prestige of resurrecting a club that has been in the wilderness for half a century?

Being a head coach again in a situation where he will be given whatever he says he needs to succeed?

Coaching in Melbourne where he grew up?

It's not that hard to think of some plausible reasons.

  12. and yet some did. We took 37 they 55 . Sylvia none.. Its one of his strengths

How many times did we get a clear possession with a precise kick to him in a position where we should expect him to mark?

Few marks were taken on leads in the driving rain, where Sylvia gets the overwhelming majority of his.

And he did chase and tackle, regardless of what stat sheet you've been reading.

I'd prefer we move him on, but your criticism here is poorly informed.
