2025 Player Reviews: #40 Taj Woewodin
Agree. We're already 'carrying' too many players who'll play a few, if any, senior games - McAdam, Laurie, Henderson, Sharp, Johnson, Campbell, and Jefferson.

Assistant Coaches in 2026
Does he have four teenagers including two budding footballers? Maybe a house in Melbourne?

Assistant Coaches in 2026
I utilise that mode of transport frequently (every Dees game in Melbourne). It's a solid two hours each way. Matt would be traveling 4 hours to conduct 90 mins (?) of drills. Also Matt is heavily involved with his local club where his two boys (13 and 14 and 191 and 193cm) play. Harry (14) won the league B&F (div 1). He'll be at Geelong Falcons very soon. Younger boy Oliver also a talent. I just reckon Matt would have more interest in the progress of his boys (and twin daughters) than the likes of JvR, Jeffo et al. Not enough hours in the day I reckon. May last one year. Just my opinion.

Assistant Coaches in 2026
If you're driving from Torquay to Richmond you'd want to leave by 6am. Later than that and you hit a log jam at Point Cook. It can take 2 hours to get to Gosch's from there. A similar nightmare getting home. Essentially a full day for 90 minutes of training. Casey? Forget it.

Assistant Coaches in 2026
I've no idea how Scarlett is planning to juggle his work/life balance. He has four teenagers including two budding footballers. He has a two hour drive to Gosch's paddock and more than three hours to Casey. An accident or traffic jam (not infrequent) and he'd be MIA.

Bailey Humphrey
It's explained in the BH thread. There's no way Suns will give up picks 6 & 7 and Humphrey simply for different picks. Also, the points the Suns require can be obtained reasonably easily, and certainly doesn't require the loss of a quality young player plus two high picks.

Bailey Humphrey
It's been explained, at least once on this board, that the Hawks have nothing to give other than picks, which the Suns don't want/need. Certainly no player of the calibre of Petracca.

Do we know Tim Lamb's handle on here? Demon_Forever

I would've thought you could under- spend and bank like the Saints have done for two or more years.

... How many times have seen contracted players request to trade only to not happen because the club hold all the power. ... and Petracca.

Farewell Christian Petracca
I'm tipping we roll over. The lids on the jars of Vaseline being loosened as we speak.

2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen
Mihocek may be OK for one season and would be a list clogger for his last two. Kicked 15 goals in his first seven games this year, and six goals in his last seven. He's done .

I'm dead against bringing in Mihocek. I'd have TMac back to FF and JvR beside him or at CHF. No ruck work for JvR - full time forward to work on his positioning and contest work. Needs to start 'clunking' his marks - the key attribute of all good forwards.

Welcome to Demonland: Brody Mihocek
I've never heard May called lazy and soft. You don't get an All-Australian blazer (twice) with those 'attributes'. Mihocek has averaged 3 goals every 2 games over his career. I've no doubt May could manage that. My understandiing is that May started his footy as a forward.

Welcome to Demonland: Brody Mihocek
So would Steven May. Taller, heavier, more experience, good skills and on our list.

Welcome to Demonland: Brody Mihocek
May has led our back six admirably. I see no reason why he couldn't translate his leadership skills to our forward line. Furthermore, JvR has on-field coaches in Melksham and Fritta. Hopefully King will play him as a permanent forward and he'll get an assistant coach who can progress his skills. Something both Stafford and Chaplin have failed at. BTW Petty takes May's spot in my team.

Welcome to Demonland: Brody Mihocek
Why on Earth would we consider recruiting Mihocek? It would be an admission that we are not confident that we can develop JvR into a key forward. Furthermore, in Steven May, we already have a player similar in size and experience to Mihocek, albeit one year older, who could assist in JvR's progress by way of 'occupying' a big defender.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Won't happen. Lives on the Surfcoast and has four teenagers. The boys are budding footballers as I've mentioned. 13 and 14 yo and 191cm and 193cm. The elder won the Geelong league div 1 B&F. Matt is heavily involved, coaching at junior level. I doubt he'd be travelling from Torquay to Casey up to twice a week.

Welcome to Demonland: Brody Mihocek
May would not be 'free' for another club. They would need to take on his contract or draw up another where's he paid what they offer. I very much doubt that it would be anywhere as much as we'd be paying him. My tip is that he stays and plays out the year at Casey.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Matt Scarlett co-coached Sth Barwon (Geelong Football League) in 2014-15. My mate was playing coach of an opposition club at the time. He said that there were a number of players that left Sth Barwon for the reason you mention.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
I'd be very surprised if Petracca hasn't had a 'sit down' with Guerra, Green, King et al. My estimate is that he'd be told the only way he will not be playing for us next year if there was a deal put on the table that suited us (and doesn't include us paying part of his salary). It's all well and good to talk about player trades, but Tracc's $1m+ salary has to be a factor/stumbling block.

Bassett leaves the Dees
King was asked in his presser about bringing a 'team' or words to that affect. He said he wanted to be awarded the job based on his own merits, and implied he'd work with the existing assistants. That was my read.
